If this channel has taught me anything, it's that people with disabilities CAN understand what's going on around them and that you just need to try a little harder to communicate with them. So nice to see all these people. Especially as a fellow person with invisible disabilities. Thank you for spreading awareness!

When Chloe spoke about someone telling her that “something is too young” for her, I felt that. That was deep to me because people need to understand that everything of their interests don’t have limits and that people should be allowed to like whatever it is. I still watch kid shows sometimes and I love Disney movies. She’s incredible. ❤

Watching old shows and playing with old toys is comforting. I do it too! Just keep doing what you want and try not to let what people say bother you. If you can learn to do that while you’re young then life will be easier. 💗

Chloe, you are a great advocate and an inspiration to many people with autism, Do not let anybody make you change who you are, because you can be who you want to be. The sky is the limit. You got a great attitude towards achieving your goals. Go ahead towards your dreams. Anything is possible with effort and compromise, I learned this when I was in college, when I had to give up some of my free time to study for an exam, it happen to me multiple times but I passed the exams.

My son is autistic and is 14 and is amazing. He wears headphones and needs a lot of downtime. He likes anime and he love loves Legos and spends a lot of his time putting them together. We live in a small town so everyone knows him so he is very blessed. When he has issues or melt downs he is lucky because they know how to deal with him and how to contact me ASAP.
@amphibeingmcshpongletron5026
That makes me so happy to hear. Understanding that your son NEEDS downtime is essential. I'm also on the spectrum, and even though nobody knew it when I was a kid, I still had a lot of support from my family, neighborhood, and community as a kid. While I wasn't always fully understood, despite being blessed with prolific speech (lol), I was respected. Being respectful and open to understanding is far better than material gifts or disingenuous attempts at inclusion. We're very sensitive to the way people behave around us, even if we can't always express it accurately in the moment. Being truly present with us is the best gift anyone can give, in my opinion. Sounds like you're a great parent!

Thank you Chloe. You are able to describe what a lot of us neurotypical people want to understand. I have worked with adults with Autism and now they are my friends that I visit with as often as I can. One of my friends has trouble getting words out too and can also communicate easier through writing either by giving me notes or reading my notes. It is difficult for her to take in information that is spoken to her sometimes and the notes help her take it all in. I watch kids shows too sometimes. They are usually things that I watched as a kid, but like you said it is comforting. Even watching anything you have seen many times is comforting because you know exactly what it going to happen.

She is very right about people assuming and also about not getting the help you need as an adult. I am autistic. I was diagnosed at 25 and when I told my grandmother she said they diagnosed me autistic at 7 but she thought I wasn't because I wasn't like Rain Man and to know the assumptions are like that is just hurtful. Every autistic person is different because it is a spectrum. Now that I did my own research I see why they diagnosed me and how it was so obvious but she couldn't see that with a lack of information. It also appears differently for girls alot of times which is why it is hard to diagnose us or why we don't get diagnosed alot. I am glad to see it being more shown in media so people can learn why we are the way we are and it makes us no less than others.
@paulfrost8895
@paulfrost8895 Год назад
Autism is far more understood and prevalent than it was when Rain Man was made like 35 years ago ' then it was still considered a rare life long institutional condition (Although we were making strides by then) not a spectrum thing ' that started in the 90s ' go back 40 or even 30 years and most Autistic people were locked away and classed as mentally disabled.

A lot of different mental health care professionals have told me I don't seem autistic, I guess they mean it as some kind of compliment, but there's always the implication being neurodivergent is bad or undesirable.

Being a girl on the spectrum is already hard enough because we girls go through more than what boys do and when you add being autistic, it’s more of an extreme. People tend to think that only boys can be autistic because they’re less likely to mask in public situations whereas girls including myself on the spectrum are taught to mask. NT people truly don’t understand how physically, emotionally, and mentally draining masking can be for us. Thank god for Chloe because she makes an awesome advocate and we could all learn something from her.

I love how she is talking about being able to like what you enjoy even if those interests are typically geared toward children. I am 41 years old and on the spectrum and I love dolls and little girl-type things. I also listen to a lot of Disney music and very much enjoy all things Disney. I have been mocked many times and told to "grow up". But with all the anxiety and overstimulation I experience and struggle with, I know now that it is perfectly ok for me to enjoy the things I enjoy without worrying about judgment or criticism. Chloe is very well-spoken and profoundly intelligent!

She is a great advocate for autism. She explains why she has to wear the headphones. I totally get it. I have severe migraines and noises, especially background noises, really irritate my headache. Noise canceling headphones have been a Godsend. She totally identifies why people watch what they want during leisure time and why that should be allowed. She made a really great point that we don't tell people without disabilities what to watch and what to do. And the way she talked about communication and apraxia....so smart! Keep going Zoe. If I lived near you I definitely would like to try being friends.

I wish I met someone like Chloe forty years ago. I get her. I always mess up back and forth oral conversation, and do better when I can take the time to write my thoughts. It is my casual observation (I admit unscientific) that autistic women are vulnerable to men with narcissistic personality disorder (NDP). Though Chloe is attractive, most neurotypical men would avoid her, but to a man with NDP, she'd be a good source of supply for their narcissism. I think (maybe wrongly) that I would have been a great friend and potential good mate for an autistic woman because I kind of get them, even though I have no clue about the rest of the 98% of the population. The problem is that autistic men often come across as being narcissistic without having their successes.
