Wouldn’t this still work if you subtracted exactly 20? So box A would be 25.17428, box B would be 26.17428, box C would be 27.17428, and box D would be 24.17428. Honestly, they may try to stump you, but this would blow their mind even more lol
this is the type of "simple" questions math teachers had on tests and I always had them blank bc once I see it my mind goes blank and suddenly I can't read or comprehend anything
Yeah, sounds creepy, right? Until you realize that there are only 76 numbers between 22 and 99, and given the amount of people watching this video there will be hosts of others that have also picked 51 (and about 75 times as many who've picked a different one but most likely have already forgotten about this video because selection bias didn't work in their favor). And before you tell me: yes, I am fun at parties.

You should probably make the pick of a number > 33 since otherwise you wind up with a repeated number(X - 21 is between 1 and 12 so it already appears in the grid), and magic squares where you're allowed duplicates aren't exactly a difficult problem to solve. And if you actually want people to think you're smart you could always explain why it's impossible with no duplicates to use a smaller number(with no duplicates or 0/negatives the smallest values possible values in the squares is 1 to 16 which sums to 136, 136/4 = 34, so the smallest row total without duplicates has to be at least 34).
I'm just thinking about how this kind of trick was incredibly impressive when I was a kid, but now that I understand maths better, it's just "oh neat, another pattern, can you do anything useful with it?"
@@thammar1990 some would argue that those arrogant people aren't actually geniuses then, since they prefer to use it as a way to feel like they are above others, rather than doing anything productive with their skills or knowledge. it just seems like a large amount of smart people are arrogant because those are the ones that make themselves known to everybody. many of the other smart people are too afraid to show what they're capable of in case they appear arrogant.
See what you were supposed to do was have one of your wife’s friend’s husband show this trick to your wife’s friend. Then she will show it to your wife. Then your wife shows it to you. Then YOU get to use it in court, explaining to the judge that your wife showed this trick to you in an attempt to prove she’s a genius. Thank me later when you’re walking your dog and she’s getting her third cat.
This is just memorizing one basic Magic Square for the numbers 1-16, and adding X to the 13, 14, 15, 16 to match whatever two-digit number your friend gives you, where X is the difference between their number and 34.
The fact that A, B, C, and D are in their own row and column is an important factor to why this works, plus that fact that there is only one letter in each diagonal.
Rulers and/or lots of practice.. Yes, this trick still works on a dry erase board. Just be prepared to be annoyed whenever you accidentally erase parts of your lines.... Other than that, it's no different than paper.
