Proverbs Series: The Spirit Behind Excessive Alcohol 

I was diagnosed with cirrhosis at 34. Then liver cancer around a year later. I was wrong about booze, I'm from Appalachia it's encouraged here as heritage. But it's my fault. I gave my life to God. They told me I wouldn't live a year but it's been 2 and the tumors have shrunk and are no longer cancerous. Praise God and put that bottle down. It's worth it. I have a terminal illness and I'm in the best shape of my life...and I've never been happier.

I struggled to quit alcohol for years, the holy spirit came and changed it instantly. Im 3 months sober, I give glory to the Almighty

Wine and Spirits tells it all. You never know what kind of spirit you will get... It may be a sexual spirit, it may be an angry spirit, a depressed spirit, a toxic spirit, an emotionally unstable spirit.. The list goes on and on... It won't be the Holy Spirit that's for sure. If youre reading this, I'm proud of you for trusting in God, and allowing Him to make you new💜 Stay the course and never grow weary in well doing; you will reap a harvest if you dont give up.

There are so many serious troubles that can come from drinking like infidelity, careless remarks, poor business deals, theft, criminal offenses, pregnancies, stds, tattooes, car crashes, injuries, violence, gossip, manslaughter, incarceration, humiliation....It occurred to me how many troubles could be avoided by just staying sober.

My father was an alcoholic also a drug dealer and added he had a heart attack smoking crack died for 3 minutes they brought him back he coded again for 3 more minutes he said he saw the devil and demons telling him it was time to go he made it through from that day he quit everything picked up the bible read that bible daily his life was changed by our lord that was 25 years ago he passed away January of 2021 I know he is with God now God does miracles every day❤🙏

I've gotten sober a few times in my life but this last time was bad. Made a commitment to quit on Dec 30,2023. Im only a couple days in and it's gonna take a few weeks to go through the withdrawals. Im taking it one moment at a time. Keep me in your prayers.

Satan wakes me up at night, reminding me of all the horrible things I've done because of alcohol. My dad was a violent alcoholic who used my mom as a punching bag. We lived in extreme poverty because of alcohol. If not for Jesus Christ, I would be dead. I still struggle, but today I have 6 grandkids, and I thank God every morning for another day.

I used to call it " the monster". Jesus has healed me and has helped me say no for 35 years. All Glory to God!!

I used to be a drunk, all I wanted to do was drink . I always worked & made money so I could drink alcohol & hung at the bar every night :( I quit drinking in 2012 quit smoking in 2017 I walk have lost weight & eat clean now ♥

My dad is an alcoholic he currently has liver cirrhosis, he started drinking again after his mom(my grandma) passed away. I’m believing God for a miracle I’ve had multiple dreams of my dad surrendering his life to Jesus. Please pray for my dad David.

I did some really appalling things while drinking, I’m most definitely someone who can’t consume any alcohol. I just celebrated 3 years sober. Thank you God.

Been sober 9 years and today I bought my first bottle. I've been going through some really hard things but I chose to dump the whole thing out on the front lawn and felt like a piece of me was dying. I still crave it but after a few minutes the craving went away. Praise Yah. It's an ongoing battle even after this many years but Yah is good. He brings scripture to mind and reminds me of all the things I can lose He gives me strength to fight another day.

I am drinking and smoking cigs and I'm having a hard time quitting. I read the Bible everyday and I LOVE THE LORD. Need to try harder! I pray for everyone here!!!

I'm not an alcoholic, but my husband is and we're struggling with his addiction. I pray he be delivered from this spirit.

My husband died from alcoholism 4 years ago. He was only 32 and left me alone with a one year old son. After 12 years trying, he still couldn't get free. We are barely surviving without him. Alcoholism kills whole families.

I was a alcoholic for many years and committed alot of sexual sin, I neglected my family told them lies. A sinful man! I tried to give up drinking many times, but failed everytime. So I prayed and asked Jesus to come into my life and to forgive me a sinner. The next day I got rid of all the alcohol in my house and knew I would never drink again. Jesus saved me and has blessed me with a new life in Him filled with the Holy Spirit. Please,if you have a problem with drinking turn to God through his only son Jesus Christ, and you to will be saved and never have the need to drink alcohol again. I haven't been drunk since 7/17/08. Never once needed a talk or meeting. Never have i taken credit, i always say it was miraculously taken from me. I drank 29 to 30 days out of 30. Not many understand i take no credit. Thank you God and praise Jesus.

I used to drink until I only had pieces of memories from the day. Did bad stuff while drunk.. check. Sexual immorality while drunk... check. Putting others in danger by driving... check. I had to stop it. It was controlling my life. Life is so much better when you have a clear mind. Alcohol isn't worth the trouble it brings.

I grew up with an alcoholic. My step father died when I was 6 years old and my mother started drinking to numb her pain. I remember how scared I was of her at times and I knew it was a demon in her. Her eyes used to turn black. I used to hide her bottles and she would freak out or I would dump half the bottle of booze and fill it with water. When things got bad, I would barricade myself and my dog in my bedroom and push my dresser against the door so she couldn't get in. I used to go to school with no sleep because I was constantly fighting this. The stories I could tell. My dad lived in the US and came to get me a few times, but I always wanted to go back to my mom because I was scared she was going to die. She'd get her act together for a while...even a few years sober, then it would revert back to the same old stuff. It was tough, looking back and I promised myself I would never do that to my kids. I don't drink. I moved away, had kids and eventually had her move in with us after friends of mine checking up on her said she was drinking herself to death. So, the stipulation was no drinking in my home. She was the best grandmother to my kids until she died in my arms. And I thank our Lord every day for those good memories. It's still painful at times but God has opened my eyes and heart to forgiveness. Let go and let God!

I watched a documentary about the spirits of alcohol back in the 80s and demons were talking to these people telling them that they love going to bars and waiting for the people to get drunk so they could enter them and get into fights. I give all praise to Jesus that I never became an alcoholic because many people in my family are. Thank you Lord Jesus for your protection over my life.

I drank for 35yrs I’m 4yrs sober praise God.

When I realized I would be separated from God forever, I finally starting fighting back, after 20 years of drinking, Im sober now 1yr1/2 because of Jesus, no one else could free me! I had to meet God in the middle

I came to the point when i could no longer stop drinking I won't go into the mayhem and destruction I caused but it was beyond my control , one night I started to pray , it was so deep I couldn't stop . I cried , screamed I wanted to die I felt like I was being pulled apart . I was lying face down coverd in spit mucus and tears I asked our Lord Jesus to let me die or help me. I felt the most powerful presence envelope me with a feeling I can't even put into words . My eyes cleard the taste of alcohol gone Dear Lord Jesus Christ you saved me that day gave me a new life for the one I wasted I have never been near alcohol from that moment. My Brothers and sisters in Christ trust in him ask of him anything and he will give in abundance Amen

Im still an alcoholic. I started drinking a year ago. I'm 38. My father drank for about 40 years. He passed away from sorosis of the liver two years ago. I never thought it was hereditary but when I started drinking,I realized I like it. I still drink. But battle alcoholism every day. I love you guys so much for bringing an understanding to it. God is working on me.

Coming to the Lord my husband and I have been delivered from alcoholism....7 years now. Praise God. It is a demonic spirit and He is faithful.

I grew up with a nasty narcissistic mother and a neglecting father. I try so hard to honour my parents. It's very very hard. It's the one commandment I struggle with all the time. It caused so much damage in me. I continually forgive, but I always have my guard up with my mum. I want relationship with her. But I get so triggered and react instead of responding. I don't know how to get past this. I'm 55. Last week my mum said sorry to me for the first time in my life. That's changed something inside me. So I do have hope 😁🙏🌸

I went through a horrible time in my life when I fell away from christ. I almost died from etoh withdrawal multiple times and have been hospitalized more times than I like to admit. Our heavenly father had other plans for me and brought me out of an impossible situation. I ended up homeless and lost everything. I've been sober since August 2019, and I'm beyond blessed every day. I don't deserve God's grace, but here I am still alive.

Ive been drinking since I was 19. About to be 26. I usually drink everyday. I usually have 3-4 drinks a day after work and more at party's. I take breaks every now and then. A week off here and there. But I really wanna stop almost entirely. Thinking about doing an alcohol fast during January for 30 days. Any prayers would be appreciated.

I’ve never had a problem with alcohol or illicit drugs. However I have one daughter who is an alcoholic and one daughter who is a recovering drug addict. It’s difficult for me to understand these addictions, but I also know God is able to rid you of addictions immediately. Please pray for my beautiful daughters. They really are trying to get and stay clean. And pray for me because I don’t know how to help them.

Im about to be 1 year sober. I was a really bad alcoholic for about 13 years. August 2022 i nearly died from pancreatitis and alcohol withdrawals. I gave it to Jesus and not only did he pull me out of that pit. He also healed me. My pancreas and ljver made a full recovery. Bout to be 30 years old and never been happier in my life. I get goosebumps just thinking about it. Thank you Yeshua ❤

I stopped drinking and smoking it's been amazing. I'm so full of the Holy Spirit. I see who's behind Alcohol and Marijuana and it freaks me out knowing what I was doing getting high and drunk all the time. I can see so clear and hear God's voice much clearer now. I’m a senior citizen. Never touched a drop of alcohol in my life, and don’t have any desire to. I like playing it safe. I don’t want to take any chances, and I’m 100% certain I can never become an alcoholic if I never take the first drink! Most of my uncles on my mom’s side were drunks. So was my grandpa.

I lost my husband due to drugs and alcoholism. Not only did it kill him it took everything we had. So much money wasted. I still have not recovered financially. I would be sleeping in my car if it weren’t for some good friends that took me in, then my brother asked me to come stay with him and his wife for a while to help them out. I don’t think I will ever have a home of my own again, just not enough income now. I thank God for my brother and my friends. Please pray for my brother Ralph, he has been diagnosed with esophageal cancer. He is retired from the Marines but still works part time teaching pilots to fly the F18 Super Hornets, he is 73 years old and still going and fighting this cancer. 🙏

I was (am) an alcoholic when my daughters were young. Even when they were small children, they asked me what was taking over when I drank. I really was oppressed by demons during that time. Sober now… with all glory to God

More insidious than alcohol is weed. (Alcohol gets you sloppy drunk but weed is easier to justify) That was my drug of choice and I never thought I’d be able to quit. Only by the grace of God was I able to stop. I had to ask to lose the desire for it. Cried out from the depths of my soul did I ask to lose the desire bc I knew I depended on it for everything and I didn’t want to quit. I only wanted to stop for the Lord and wasn’t sure I’d be saved…in fact I was so addicted I knew I put it above everything so I knew in my heart i had to stop or I’d be a fool and be very sorry one day. Praise God for His mercy and Grace. Don’t gamble with your life! He will help you lose the desire if you ask from a sincere place.

When I was saved again, my opiate cravings left. I didn't even notice it until months later. I wasted so much time, money and energy taking Suboxone and going to NA. I changed my diet at the time too. I am happier than ever before. It is amazing! I feel content for the first time in my life.

Lately I've learned the power of prayer. I'm praying for the Lord to deliver me from beer. I've been drinking a lot lately and feel shameful. He has brought me through soo many things and know through him all things can be done.

Smoking is the biggest battle for me. I've quit so many things with no problem, but smoking is so so hard to quit 😔

There is one main thing I want to tell anyone thinking of quitting or about to quit, particularly those for whom it appears as a challenge: The experience of not drinking after you quit is NOT the experience of being a non drinker! Its the experience you have right after you quit! Your body needs time to heal, to adapt, to adjust. So does your mind. You wont have the experience of being a non drinker until weeks or perhaps months have passed, depending on personal factors. So DONT GIVE UP. IT GETS BETTER FAST. You will be amazed at how quickly your new life becomes normal. After that, try to discover what malfunction led you into that state so that you dont repeat it. You didnt enter into excessive drinking by chance. Nobody does.

This might be laughable but I have a serious addiction to sugary energy drinks...to the point that I get extreme sick when I try to stop. In the past 3 years I've got from 85kg to 115kg. Please pray for me. Edit* Thanks everyone for your advice and care. I'm honestly overwhelmed

Alcoholic for 18 years at 35 years old. Been sober for 163 days. Alcohol didn't destroy my life. It destroyed my way of life as I knew it. Since quitting things have been changing around for the better tho!

I’m dealing with an alcoholic husband first was mental abuse it has escalated to physical abuse I have to move out for my physical safety. Everything is blamed on me 😢

The two lessons and strengths that got me through the most difficult time of my life were forgiveness and gratitude for what I still have. Gratitude is easier than forgiveness. Resentment can try to boil back up but with those lessons I know I can defeat it once again. Alcohol numbs pain but doesn’t dissolve the source of the pain.

After so many years of trying to quit but to no avail. On 10/01/24, I finally made up my mind to walk away from alcohol completely...baby steps.

Learn, learn,learn.....do it when you are young. When you get elderly you realize how important it is to learn this when you are young.

Since becoming a Christian iv'e just gotten extremely depressed all the time. Iv'e taken away everything I used to enjoy from drinking, to smoking weed..getting so much joy and comfort from good times. Now I just feel like I wanna leave the Earth cause I genuinely have NOTHING to do. I have no family and all the Christians at my Church are locked into that family life.

One thing common with any addiction is no boundries and no accountability.

39 years from alcohol February 14, 2024. Went to Hope House in Anaheim California. That’s why I started my sobriety cruise. It’s so much easier trusting in the Lord and not drinking so much easier to encapsule those issues that are issues in your life, 🎉

Unfortunately I went through the tunnel of addiction and used the fact that I was A combat vet ( Or did that fact use me ? ) @ any rate I , used every thing in my memory to justify my self abuse , I became aware that I was being manipulated , giving entities pleasure to control myself and others . I realized I was still in a combat zone .This thought or realization got me clean over 55 years ago. It’s never too late to forgive yourself and forget what forces are at work ! Amen brother ! !!
