Yep, those old northeastern neighborhoods. Could be in any number of cities. They all have that well-worn look of post industrial revolution power followed by stagnation and then decline, yet if only those streets and brick buildings, storefronts, and multistory homes could talk. Great video, though, that encourages some of us to fill in the details ourselves from our imagination and others may delve deeper into the dramatic still hidden narratives that seem to cry out to be told, heard, and maybe even to be applauded.
This is my home bro! That whole area is filled with fellow guatemalans, Dominicans, Puerto ricans and cambodians! Most of these stores you see in the video are well known here quite obviously and I'll point out a few new details about them! 1. At 1:39 you can see this yellow sign sayin something bout seafood or sumn, yeah now that's turning into a market! Theres a sad story behind It tho, a Cambodian man who used to be a landlord and business owner went bankrup. there, he used to have a small restaurant (now replaced by the market) and went well..like I said, bankrupt, he lost all his houses and lost that restaurant, forever to be forgotten by many :( . 2. At 2:31 you can see a small bodega called "Gemma's market" the owner of the place is a man named...idk I forgot his name but I knew his son for a while! He also now owns the ice cream place you see at the time stamp 2:10 , to which the previous owner handed it to him, great renovations hes making to the place I tell ya! 3. At 4:31 you can see this little shop ca "botica anaisa" which honestly has nothing but candles! :3 I never went inside it before but it's based off of catholic/Christian faith :3 4. At 9:06 you can see a building with a logo of some sort ahead and to the right is some sort of school/community center, but onto the building ahead of that with the logo on it, that is the hells Angel's place type of thing , I havent done enough research on hells Angel's but they are some biker gang as much as I know! 5. 9:21 - 10:11 are places were I knew people were harmed or killed/shot to death. :( pay respects! 6. 10:11 ahead there are three places, a barber shop, Rita's pizza and fabians liquor store, usually filled with dominicans or Puerto Ricans, m a n y o f t h e m, to the right is a brick building, that's also a small restaurant called... pitos!, now I barely know anything about these places but I can say, they are well managed :3 7. 12:21 - 12:37 welcome to musty HQ where this fuckin road stinks A L O T like dear god its filled with nasty smells you could never forget, trash broken glass cigs you name it!
@@devineeats631 lol! Trust me, 70% of the time I was going to my friends place it was to buy some of the devil's lettuce and the other 30% we ended up smoking anyway lmao 🤣😂 good times being a dumb teenager
I haven't been to RI since I was 16 yrs old....still have plenty of family there...I enjoyed myself then tho 20 +yrs ago...if I were thinking of going back there or moving there what would be some advice
That's just a piece of the west end. Cranston st to Wendell to Cranston st turn superior st to Dexter Ford st. To Messer to union/Messer down Hanover st to Bellevue st back to Cranston st
what part of providence is this? the worst looking parts I've actually seen are: the west end (basically Cranston street and the blocks off either side of it), or central falls. lots of bandos. I believe the west end had a lot of the bandos either redone, rebuilt, or knocked down in the past few years. in 2010 it was terrible. so many boarded up buildings, like Baltimore. I think central falls is still pretty messed up for the most part, but everywhere in the country has improved looks-wise it seems.
The first part is Cranston street aka west end. I lived on Hanover as a kid. It was too violent so my parents moved. This was during the 80s. Providence is relatively clean because unlike other cities, there's no turf wars so you don't get the graffiti and trap houses. You could be living next door to a rival. City is that small and congested.
You cruised down Cranston st but I had to Pause at 6:46 white house on the left is where I grew up at..it was yellow and brown when I lived there..that's 38 Ford st West End..I know it dont look much in this video but the whole west side is about gang activity drugs and all the rest..I'm figuring this was a early morning ride thru...I moved out of Prov in 2012..it was nice seeing my old stomping grounds my hood! 10:25 when you took that left that's Hanover st...you wouldn't be able to count how many shootings went down on that one block right there from the time I was a small kid all the way up until my adult years..anybody that's from Prov know I ain't lying
Idk but something bout 2012 in providence just hit different yknow?, I also used to live in Ford street, a yellow house at the end of the road, and a White House to which my still grandfather lives in
@@GuiltlessDJO3 how old are you? And when did your grandfather move to Ford st? Me I'll be 44 this year..when I was born ma dukes and my pop was living in a house on Cranston st that was right on the Corner of Waldo but they ended up getting that family home on Ford st so I grew up there from a baby until about 16yrs old..then moved to Silver lake..after that as i bounced from ma dukes crib..i lived basically all over Prov..Washington park..Manton..back to the west on Linwood ave..Federal Hill..North end..but South Side was where me and the homies dwelled had homies in Chad so that was a spot at times too..lol my bad I'm just reminiscing 401.. Ford st brings back all my growing up memories from the 80's and 90's..if I could I'd snap my fingers and be back on the porch with all my childhood friends all of us laughing playing with no care in the world
@@auracle9231 that’s whuddup bro I’m from Silver Lake area right outside of Olneyville heading towards Johnston. Left the block back in 2011 and by the grace of god didn’t get caught up in none of the bs Prov had to offer thankfully
This doesn't look so bad at all. I lived in Providence for a while and even though my memory is rusty a lot of this looks like it might not even be from Providence, maybe more like Cranston. It actually looks kinda nice.
@@ACL617 agree. Going by what see in video. Compared to what I saw over 20yrs ago when lived in area. Still looks same just different graffiti! I still live in RI. Just now west warwick and we have our share too. I wasn't referring anything to crime or murders! I worked with Providence police gang unit in 90's. Don't see how my comment mentioned violence?? Just memory lane! Lived at 38 trask st. Prob. Near standard liquors.. Saw the corner on broad st where Tony's market used to be, don't know if you remember that? 24"×6" grinders loaded for $4.50-$5
It don't look that bad in Bmore people are out everywere zombies are noodling out trying to get across the street and Theres open air dope markets yelling out the names of dope they have and if they have trash cans of coke or red or green tops! This looks similar to York Pa.
7:21 A year after I left when my brother was still living around these parts with mom their house got shot at. Sea foam and royal blue house to the right. Yeah Prov isn't the greatest to live but it's not terrible compared to spots like Detroit, Compton, Chicago it could be worse but definitely not great.
South central LA is worse than compton. Watts is worse than south central. Providence is def rough but not as violent/ dog eat dog as brownsville brooklyn, Newark NJ, Detroit or southside chicago. agreed.
Nothing in this video is a terrible"hood". Just miles a very old yet still functioning neighborhood. Whether or not for different reasons certain things aren't preserved, the history is still there and life is still striving. Pretty good video of one of America's oldest cities
@@michaelbrockington3175 shit more dysfunctional than all them mf construction workers hanging out under the mall highways instead of working on shit LMAO
Man we got a mayor that defunded the police and put a no bail needed policy. It's pretty stupid here past two years. Small city. 180,000 people, but we saw 23 homicides this year. That's like 14 per capita, Chicago is 20 per capita. RI itself is 3 per capita. Providence is responsible for more than half the State's homicide this year with a population of 1.1 million. One thing I'll say is, the city keeps itself clean. All the public housing look like mini condos with fresh cut grass. But the people as a whole, it's pretty ghetto. Been in Providence for too long, looking to move out by next month. Tired of the crap.
No lie the same pot holes been in the same spots since I was a kid..and you know something I ain't been back to my home city since 2012 and I know they ain't fixed none of them pot holes..I bet if I was to ride thru the whole city right now blind folded today my memory and driving instincts would have me automatically swerving to avoid every single pot hole..only people that grew up in Prov know what I mean..them streets been fucked up forever! Lol
@@sgtjohn4321 yeah I remember back in the day when they put them speed bumps in and those little islands in the street to slow the speeding..mostly on the south side tho
I bent two rims and had multiple flats. Need an alignment every damn year because of the potholes. Just got an alignment and 4 new tires last week. Snow plow state.
A few years ago I was staying just outside Providence and I went to a supermarket to get some beer. Coming from Ireland I didn't know they didn't sell beer. So we drove into town looking for a liquor store at 10 o'clock at night. We found one; walking across the extremely dodgy car park I said to my girlfriend. I have a feeling this going to turn into an episode of The First 48.
Patterson also has way more high rise apartments.and the downtown in providence is super clean.i don't live in either but I worked as a delivery driver in both
@@metalfistgames8106 go to providence you'll see what I mean.the inner city is beautiful and full of mansions with land.but the edge of town it's pretty ruff.more New England looking.
Because of defund police. No new hiring or OT for Providence police. Mayor slowly turned it into a warzone. We saw 10 more homicides compared to 2019. That's a lot for a city of 180,000. That puts Providence at 14 homicides per capita. That's 2.5 times higher than the national average. At one stretch during the summer, we had more shootings per capita than Chicago.
Say that to my brother who was jumped for no reason on my street on inkerman street. It's unfortunately ghetto and gang tags everywhere, even in my own driveway. Ghetto ass gang bangers in dark hoodies at night but pussies in the day.
@@whatthat150 Cranston st is not a war zone your brother could have been jumped in the suburbs just as easily. The point is people are making it out to be something it isn't.
@@befree4052 @Be Free yeah bro I didn't say cranston st. - Walk around Chad brown neighborhood off douglas at night and anywhere in between there and chalkstone ave and then get back to me. It's no detroit or anything, I'll give it that. Providence is a nice place, just has it's issue locations and places you shouldn't be at night like any big city.
