As a Dakota owner people don't laugh when you drag an F250 around a parking lot. The original ride height for that truck was the same as that of 4WD Silverado of the same year because the 2WD and 4WD used the same size tires and suspension pieces. And even the V6 had the same torque of the 4.6 v8 in the ford of the same years
Sorry it’s been so long since I posted somethin! I promise I’m gone give y’all a load of content this month! P.s. I know this ain’t my best video…but I’ve got some epic stuff comin!
I squatted the springs on my 00 Dakota with 2200 pounds and still didn't damage the frame. I bowed the bed floor all to hell but still didn't harm the frame
@@hellhound1389 yikes! I put a full ton of flooring in the back seat of a 250 once (crew cab 8 foot bed so dead center of the frame) but I soon moved half to the bed since the frame seemed to flex disconcertingly. I was also going to be driving 200 miles over frost heaves once leaving Fairbanks
I fell down a hole and have been binge watching Gingerbilly for the last 3 hours! My sides hurt from laughing so much. U sir need ur own show on mainstream tv!!
Two wheel drive saves more gas than any 4 wheel drive truck. Plus my two wheel drive truck has a V8. What does your truck have? Also if you don't lower the front or rear end it works just fine. Any two wheel drive can do anything a 4 wheel drive truck can, except of course mudding. I'm talking pulling power. And considering my two wheel drive truck is my recently dead father's truck. I will keep it no matter what
I'd watch it. Some times I'll sit there thinking I must be the only person who spends this much time watching recovery videos. But in reality tons of people are doing the same thing.
As it happens, I had a 4-wheel drive Dakoter, and not only did I not get stuck in the mud, I never had any big pieces fall off of it 😁 Ok, so pretty much all the paint fell off the front bumper, but the bumper itself was still there.
Ginger Billy Thank you for the laughter, my dad was a big fan of yours my dad pass away a year ago and watching your videos helping me grief, I can still hear his laughter in the living room while watching your videos =). Thank you for the years of laughter keep up the good work !
Ginger Billy. Your awesome you were great in Jackson Michigan. I hope you come back again! It was a great show. Great show. My boyfriend and I are HUGE fans. Hell we drove 3 hours and stayed 2 nights out that way! Thanks for a good show. And thanks for all you do. This video was hilarious! #TruckGang (got sticker on my ride)
@@rainsofhealing I think the 620 was designed with some off road in mine. The departure and approach angles are probably the best on any production truck, plus it only weights 2200lbs. Climbs up trails my f150 must be in 4wd for, but it's no 4wd crawler thats for sure.
I've had both 4WD and 2WD trucks and can tell you don't always need a 4WD. I even had a 2WD Dakota with the offroad package and BF goodrich tires and went through sh!t that got 4WDs stuck (especially my buddies F150). My absolute favorites were my 2WD 85 S10 dually 1-ton and my 86 ranger with upgraded baja suspension that I ran trails with. My current truck is my custom built (by me) 79 Ram crew cab flatbed dually with the drivetrain out of a school bus and yes it's 2WD but I constantly tow 20k pounds with it and have yet to get it stuck on a job site. Maybe if you had manly tires on that Dakota it would've gone better
Glad someone said something. I was thinking most of what you said. I've got a 2000 (or maybe 2001) Ranger 2wd and have never been doing anything where 4wd would have helped much. Plus the little 4 banger gets me 23-24 mpg--something the 4wd version wouldn't have done, That said, it rarely sees much other than pavement.
I have a 07 2wd dakota, did fine for me. Light off roading to swimming spots and what not. Got a 2018 colorado 2wd later and same deal, made it through 3 Canadian Winters with it so far, knobby snow tires are a must. The chin spoiler on er was just plowing though. Took that bitch off and gained some clearance.
I drove 2wd in mud and deep snow. I only got stuck a couple times in the 10 years I drove a pickup. I was towing a boat and other trailers or farm wagons. Mud was all over the truck all the time. My wife hated riding in my truck till I washed it off. I can't tell you how many night in the winter I would cut a trail home for everyone to drive thru. Half the trucks following me had 4wd just to scared to plow into drifts that went over the hood.
@@stevemathew5281So do Toyotas. But not because they’re better. They last longer because they’re incapable of doing most jobs someone who abuses a truck requires. If it can’t do the work, it doesn’t receive the abuse, and therefore lasts longer. Surely if the truck never leaves pavement and doesn’t see the northern states, 2WD is superior. Less parts, less weight, less problems, better gas mileage. Hard to believe, but I once made it further in mud with a manual 2WD 87 F150 on junk tires, than a 3/4-1 ton conversion 97 Chevy 4x4 on decent tires. The Chevy got stuck on the way to pull out the Ford which made it 3x further. Obviously weight plays a factor is specific conditions.
@@WontSeeReplies I built a 2WD 86 ford ranger with baja suspension and a turbo 2.3 4 banger that I run trails with and it's survived almost 20 years of abuse. I even pulled a 4x4 Silverado out of a mud hole with it. It's more about tires, weight distribution, and the driver
Got a 2009 2wd Tacoma with 4th gear and it's a beast. Custom Helo rims all terrain tires. Beefy 4.0L V6 too and I don't have any major complaints about it. Yeah it got stuck in the mud but at least it handles through most hills and other stuff.
About a year ago my rear ring and pinon gear snapped in half . I put her in 4wd and drove it home towing a trailer powered only by the front tires.😂 Then I was a 2wd… or a front wheel drive!
Years ago, I would hunt in the Jersey Pine Barrens. The roads and trails are mostly sugar sand. One day, while bored, I decided to tribe the length of Bryant Road (check it out in Google Earth) in my 1993 Caprice Classic Station Wagon. With and open rear. One Wheel Drive. The funniest part was, when I was about 15 miles deep in the woods, a caravan of four-wheelers were heading in the other direction. Jeeps, Toyota FJs, an XTerra, etc, and all with knobbies and fording kits and farm jacks and winches and. . . Anyway, the look of utter amazement as I am heading past them in my war wagon with street radials, one hand on the wheel and one arm on the windowsill, just too sling along without a care in the world, was totally priceless. The most important thing to remember when driving in these conditions is DO NOT STOP - KEEP YOUR MOMENTUM. Sadly, this was in the days before dash and and GoPro.
It’s more of a skill thing than anything I’ve always driven two wheel drive pickups. I have a four wheel drive and it doesn’t really do much better. I honestly have to remember to check and see if it still works once a year. It’s more like a ford vs Chevy argument only one side is right but the other one over compensates by excessive Bragging
He just needs to get those ford tires off and put on some bf goodrich tires. Plus put the suspension back to the factory setting since it originally had the same ride height as a 4x4 Silverado of the same year. I should know because I have 2 of those Dakotas and both are 2wds. One with the V6 and the other has the 5.2/318 V8
I looked at a 2018 tacoma at a dealership a couple weeks ago. Slick truck. Big lift on it with Toyo Mud terrains. And that's when I realized it was a 2wd!!!! 😆 🤣 😂
Am I the only one who made the connection between Billy's demonstration of "how stupid that looks" and the current Reverse Crouch job he did on his Dodge Dakoter[sic]'s suspension? It's like he was preparing to make that point this whole time. Genius.
Bro, everything I watch that you put out is freaking hilarious, and it's definitely something I needed to see today. God bless keep up the good work bro you are a comedy genius!
Damn Billy, it hurts my heart to see you destroy that thing for our entertainment. I laughed my ass off but damn that was straight truck when you first got it.
@GARDNER78 his is a v6 she don't sound too good lol, but yes they really are bad ass trucks, especially for how cheap you can get them at the moment, even for a relatively clean R/T with the big 360 motor you won't spend more than 7 grand unless you want something super clean and low mile
@GARDNER78 but I have pics on my reddit account of mine, I'll post a vid of it to my RU-vid chanel in a sec so you can see it. Ok I uploaded a short but wow it butchered the quality for some reason
I’m going to be honest…I had a 2002 dodge Dakota 2x4 black in color just like that truck…I had a ball on the back bumper to pull small trailers loaded up my quad in the bed of the truck and I also went mudding got it stuck but also got it out… great little truck in the snow slot of fun! Don’t do that ginger Billy!
In my experience using a landrover series both on and offroad on and around my property, the number of times i have REQUIRED 4wd/low/etc is less than anticipated. They are capable vehicles regardless, and unless I’m heading into mud or obviously difficult terrain i tend to leave it in 2H. Even carting loads is nbd. It’s wise to learn planning the best way through or around difficult land rather than jump right in. Then again, it was an enhanced engine install from the oem spec (lol)
Even though it's more fuel efficient to have two wheel drive haha I guess it depends on the terrain because most city Folk only need that in the winter on City roads
I love it when you get stuck. Woulld you consider a rear wheel drive car like a stang and getting it stuck??? Maybe do some serious rocking back and forth...I love country boy stucks. Even better if it is s ginger boy!!! Love the humor in your vids but just love your vids in general. Make me smile. I wish I could be with you during a stuck test!!!!
