This video is a recording of a live virtual lecture given by Prof Kevin Anderson as part of the two-day Northern Energy Transition Conference in April 2021, jointly held by the Durham Energy Institute (Durham University) and the North of England Institute of Mining and Mechanical Engineers (NEIMME).
Lecture Synopsis:
In this lecture Kevin analyses why carbon budgets - not targets - matter, what the reasonable carbon budget for cars is in the UK, what realistically needs to happen if the UK were to meet it's Paris and why the current language of Net Zero is perpetuating failure.
Professor Kevin Anderson, Professor of Energy and Climate Change, Universities of Manchester (UK), Uppsala (Sweden) and Bergen (Norway)
Formerly director of the Tyndall Centre, Kevin engages widely across government (UK, Sweden & EU) and remains research active with publications in Climate policy, Nature and Science. Kevin has a decade’s industrial experience in the petrochemical industry, is a chartered engineer and fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.
About the Institute:
