I also chose no surgery at age 72 - I’m healthy and fit and I’m grateful for this video - as of today I’m wearing a brace - fell and broke humerus 11 days ago -

I fell at work 17 days ago on May 2nd and fractured my proximal humeral head in three places. The pain was out of control and then I get to the ER and the PA told me he was going to give me oral pain medication. Now I know that oral medications usually take anywhere from half an hour to an hour to even start to work so obviously I was not happy about that. With pain that was off the charts I asked him if I could have IV pain medication and he said they didn't have enough staff to have someone put in an IV 👎😫😡. They sent me home with a script for pain medication but nothing ever touched the pain. Definitely a lot better than I was almost 3 weeks ago but still very painful and swollen and a lot of bruising which is to be expected. I'm looking forward to physical therapy and getting my right arm and hand back which is my dominant side of course😂. I hope you heal well and have a speedy recovery.

I'm glad to hear you're healing well and are positive. I wish you a speedy and healthy recovery. I fell at work on May 2nd and fractured my proximal humeral head in three places. I'll be 53 in August and this is the first time I ever broke a bone. And I've done quite a lot as far as being active such as rock climbing very challenging hikes I worked in several emergency departments and was always in some sort of scuffle with patients that needed to be restrained and were uncooperative. I've been lucky up to this point but I definitely did a number on my shoulder. The orthopedist that read my CT when I was in the ER said that it is very highy likely that I'm going to need surgery. I've had two other orthopedists now tell me that I don't need surgery I just need to let it heal and it's just going to take time. I'm glad I didn't go to that other orthopedist office. Best of luck with your continued healing.

@@pamelag.00 I'm definitely trying to stay positive but there's times when I feel like I'm never going to heal from this because the pain is so awful.

I am 69 and recovering after a fall from my electric bike. I am 9 weeks out- and in physical therapy twice a week, out of the sling after 7 weeks. My orthopedist will advise on surgery in a few weeks-however, the current plan is to avoid surgery. I already believe I have recovered functional range of motion-but understand that continuing physical therapy with a professional as well as home exercises are my best options.

Yes i had a really bad set of fractures and displacement. 18 years later I have use of it but and this is significant, a lot of pain every single day and night, no pain management at all, and very restricted movement of arm. I am now 57 and not sure what to do😮. This is an extremely painful injury and continues over the years😢

I had a PHF, and chose the non surgical option and glad I did. Im in the uk so there were no cost implcations to consider, both options were explained and I decided I didnt want surgery. Its fine now (2yrs on)

I'm about 9 months into my injury, been using 5 pound dumbells and it hurts a lot. I can't even lift the 12 pound one and the work I do for money has become very painful. Can you clarify if that's normal still 9 months in? Should I be fine in a year or so?

Are there upper arm injuries that you definitely need surgery for?

I'm into three months of a proximal humerus fracture. I was told by three surgeons, that it was not displaced and would and is healing fine..last week I was told by a fourth specialist, without an XRay that i may need an MRI and possible surgery in 6 months time!!! I'm doing more and more with the arm through lots of physio and pain is subsiding more and more, so why would i be told this i have no clue!!! NHS UK for you!!!..Thanks for this reassuring advice. I have no intentions of having surgery :)

The fourth specialist sounds like a crack, how can they know what you need without any imaging?
