For those interested in who I am you can find below a short presentation.
My name is Daniel, I am an electronic engineer who started some time to work with wood. Wood was a passion of mine since my childhood when I grew up with my uncle who was a woodworker.
When I was about 35 I bought a CNC machine and made several things with it.
Working with wood I needed some cutting tools so I had to buy hand planes and chisels. They needed to be sharpened so I have discovered whetstones and I have another passion now: sharpening. I like sharpening and I discover how relaxing is to sharpen a kitchen knife. I am not a specialist, I am a self though from what I read and from other people's movies.
On my channel, you can find movies with what I do in my workshop: sharpening, some woodworking, repairing things, and whatever I have to do and I consider to be interesting for you.
I am sure that you don’t like all my movies. There is no problem, it is normal. :) If you would like to tell me your opinions please be civilized. :) But I hope that you like them at least 99.99%. :)
Thank you for watching and as I already told you in the movie please support me with a like, comment, share, subscribe, etc. Any of them are important to me.

@@DanielWorkshop im thinking if I should get 400 and 1000. I have an offer: both of these stones for 23 dollars. It won’t be my first stones, but I am in need of something in that grit range

The 400 grit is nothing like my Shapton Glass 500. The micron numbers are close to each other, but the PROYAN TAIDEA stone breaks down way too fast, and is soo muddy like a Suehiro stone. If you like that kind of stone then get these. They will need to be leveled/lapped a lot, unless you are good at using the entire stone surface. For a 30-45min session I can see a clear dip in my 400 stone.

@@DanielWorkshop water seems to want to melt mine away. It works don't get me wrong. But the binder in mine is way softer then Shapton. I don't even think I used that much water. I would need to rinse and clean it after each pass to get the buildup removed. Glad I didn't invest much in this line. I almost was going to order more for gifts. This might be a hit or miss from a chinese brand.
@DanielWorkshop
@DanielWorkshop 8 месяцев назад
Could be. I just tested another chinese glass stone (not taidea) and it was doing exactly what you said. Very soft.

@@DanielWorkshop I buy that Taidea, that's 8000 and 4000 grit feel like 600 grit from Japanese stone. That glass 8000grit can not make a little mirror edge (it's too cloudy), so I feel bad for all Taidea ( every grit )

daniel, what stones do you suggest for free hand razor shaving? I was thinking for king 800/6000 combo + 1 natural stones as finisher or imanishi 1000/6000 combo+ 1 natural stone as finisher actually i have only one 5000 taidea + lether strop and green paste for home use for knives. thank you, i watched almost all your videos, very informative!
@DanielWorkshop
@DanielWorkshop Год назад
First thank you for following me. I recommend using a japanese or a known manufacturer of whetstones because they have better quality control. The chinese stones are good for knives but for razors are not that good imo. The problem is that there might be particles with big differences in the same stone. For a knife that's not a problem but on a razor will damage the blade and it will give you a scratch on your face. To finish I have tested a lot of natural stones but for me, the japanese natural finishers are giving me the best result.

Since, AliExpress is banned in india. And King stones are way too much costly get like single 1000 grit king stone costs around 45 dollars. Are kai 1000 & 3000 grit stones good? It's available here by official kai store. Each seperately costs around 25 & 30 dollars. Is it good option?

The stones can be splash and go and soaking stones. Splash and go means that you don't have to soak them . After you start sharpening, splashing them from time to time is normal. :)

Well, you convinced me, I just purchased the 240 and 400. It also helps that Amazon US has them for $9.90 each. Curious to see how the 240 is, if it's good at thinning and damage repairs.

Just got the 400 for the same deal. Just missed the 240 that was in my cart when only 2 was left. I suggest you use it dry if you don't want a muddy mess. Seems to work fine dry for touchups. You can clean it off with a Dressing Stone/Rust Eraser with water after you are done. So disappointed it doesn't behave closer to the Shapton Glass.

It looks to be magnesium bonded. You shouldn't soak any such stones (naniwa pro, kuromaku, SG), they will get soft.

With a shapton glass that stone would be black in 5 seconds of the amount of sharpening metal slurry. That stone talks at a simple sight

Ai stat foarte mult pe piatra de 1000 fara sa verifici bavura pe 1 parte si nu imi dau seama daca piatra pileste incet sau pur si simplu ai lucrat tu muchia mai mult.
@DanielWorkshop
@DanielWorkshop Год назад

@@DanielWorkshop Pal, do you realize, the same damage to a cutting edge will be happening be it a razor, knife or an AXE, with NO difference at all because of irregularities of a grain? Without microscope your review is weak and irresponsible, so are the stones!
@DanielWorkshop
@DanielWorkshop Год назад
Pal, the knife and an axe are used to cut something. Not to shave. You could have asked me before you buy them for my opinion but you decided to go your way. And now it is easier to blame me. I sharpen razors too but never ever use chinese stones. You bought the cheapest stones and you wonder why they are not good for razors?
