Thanks Leon, great playing as usual! I'm basically a Fender guy 40+ years on Strats and Teles ! But during covid I got the hum bucker itch. Bought a PRS SE Custom 24, and really enjoyed it! When the 24-08s came out I bought one of those too, mainly because of the individual coil split switches. I love them both, play them a lot, they each have their own vibe, but are both good! Now I can mix the PRS's with my Fenders thick and thin, just like my favorite strings! Thanks again for your super videos!
Came for the guitar, got a top notch demo! Watched this video at least 10 times because of the intro! Solid work my guy! Thanks for the review! Take care
I honestly can't get enough of hearing/watching you play. I absolutely love the surrounding spatial effects you add. This past Friday I got my lefty PRS SE Custom 24 in Faded Blue Burst and I LOVE it. Great stuff, Leon!!
I bought a blue SE 24-08 last month. I’ve been thrilled with it so far. Really no complaints at all. I did buy PRS locking tuners for it. But that is just a convenience thing (it held tune fine).
I recently purchased and play an, all-Mahogany/no maple cap, or veneer, and it rings forever with the stock PUs, replaced tuners with PRS SE lockers, and my set-up, similar to Leon’s. Just amazing instrument
Recently tried a Zach Myers and SE Silver Sky and a Vintera and USA Pro II tele. I was really surprised by how much more care was put into the construction and setup of the SEs than even the MIA tele. Your SE is sounding great here, btw!
Excellent video! I’ve owned several SEs over the years and watched their quality increase. It’s amazing how far they’ve pushed the line since the first Santana SE. I need a new one after hearing this one 😍
I’ve had a newer Santana SE for about a year now, and it is the same quality as this one. Amazing tones and total workhorse. I love it. I wouldn’t say it does everything but what it does do, it does well. Fighting myself on buying the Verde one of these. I love the fretboard, the color, and the tones. With distortion or overdrive these puppies sing.
I’ve recently bought my second PRS SE guitar and I think I prefer it to my Mexican Tele and maybe my SG Standard on some days. These are superb instruments by any standards.
Dude you just sealed the deal on me getting this guitar. I've always been worried about the pickups in the SE model, but with all the coil tapping and switching going on in the 24-08, it just seems to special and delightful to listen to.
Leon, I played since 1988. I've had a lot of gear like you over the years and I have seen things come and go. I am a big fan of 2 companies that get it right. PRS and Boss/Roland. I am glad you review their gear hence you have become my goto gear page along with some German guy who yells a lot.
My experience is… after watching your Mark Holcomb SVN demo… I bought one and loved it enough to then pick up the 6 string version. I love that too. Now I’m looking at SE Custom 24s. And… yup… you already have a video on it lol. So I’m guessing that’s my next purchase 🙂 Awesome demos btw. All the best.
I got one of these in the green finish. Love it !!! Also just bought an SE 245 Standard, with prs Se locking tuners, graph tech black tusk nut, and Fishman Fluence open core classic pickups and pots, switch craft switch. I plan to make an modern twin to this, aside from being a single cut, great playing and review! Love mine! Now, on to upgrading the standard.great job as usual!!!
Totally agree about the SE line..... I think I've commented before on one of your vids, but I've owned a USA custom 22 since the late 90's. Done thousands of gigs on it and it's been a trooper. But I've picked up multiple SE's over the last decade and they really are a good bang for the buck. It's getting harder and harder to justify that $4-5k price tag on a USA made PRS when the SE line is so damn solid. I'd also strongly suggest picking up some of the Schecter imports, more specifically the $1k-$1.5k stuff (Solo-II, Apocalypse, Coupe Hollowbody) and giving them a whirl. I was genuinely impressed with their build quality on the foreign made lines. They are great workhorses as well. Great video as always.
This video was a real treat since I bought this exact same guitar and model (same tiger stripes and color) ... about a year ago. After playing it, I was so in love with PRS I bought 2 more... one with a Floyd and the Standard (which has tonal qualities all its own). LOVE PRS. It cured me of the "Les Paul fever" I have had but could never afford. Not too many use rack systems, but I have to say they tend to be less finicky and always sound like a stadium full of tone (probably why Tom Scholz has a wall of processers on stage) ... anyway... always inspiring and knowledgeable...Thanks!
So I was 100% convinced to buy this guitar(but in Faded Blue) after watching your video, among many others. And all I have to say is WOW. I am so amazed at the quality instrument you get for $1000. I drove 4 hours to Sweetwater to pick it up because I wanted to have this guitar so bad, and I can say I do not regret it one bit! Out of all my MIA Strats and Les Paul's, I feel I will find myself picking this guitar up the most. This guitar has convinced me to get a core model. If the quality and playability is this good on their SE line, I can only imagine how phenomenal a USA core model is!
I think the pickup micro switches have washed across from the Paul's SE, which is also very nice. Love the figured wood tops. Beautiful playing over those tunes too, Todd! Swish
Leon, Most excellent demo video. I have a 2021 PRS SE CUSTOM 24 in Blueburst. It is a very well built guitar. After watching your review I'm considering buying this 24-08 in same color.
Thanks for the overview. Probably the least expensive guitar I own and since I bought it a coupla years ago I find myself picking it up for noodling / writing or trying parts in the studio before some of my others. The dual split option is incredibly useful, particularly as I make quite a bit of use of a clean middle position for arpeggiated chordal stuff. When it comes to soloing I generally reach for other more 'single minded' guitars - Les Paul / Strat etc. but even without those I think you can safely say this one is a terrific Swiss Army Knife all-rounder. Extremely good value. Sort of keen to try out the new S2 24-08 I've noticed recently, the 'Dark Amber' one with pick-ups upgraded etc. etc.
I bought one based on this video and others. Amazing quality for the price, my main guitar is a Tyler Burning Water. The pickups are very bright, I have the tone control down around 5 or 6 just to try and tame it a bit. So I may change out the pickups once I have a good idea of what I want.
Yeah, I agree with you, not as low as it can be for the strings, also the tuners had to go which I have done, I might remove the nut as well, haven't decided yet on that. The tones sound more modern and cut through the mix very easy. If you need the strong side you will have to change out the pickups, but I don't believe it is needed unless you really need it. It is a solid guitar and with all the upgrades it can feel and sound just like a Core, but the top or beauty can't be replicated without buying a PRS CE. I just can't see dropping 5K on a guitar.
i confess that I was once a gear snob. That being said I have been very pleased with squire classic vibe stuff. I also really like Epiphone now as well. I have always thought PRS models were the fire but they were so out of reach for me. The S2 line has really got me fired up but now the SE stuff especially this custom 24-08 model really makes me think that may be my next piece. Its that or an 04 anniversary deluxe strat with SCN noiseless and the V neck. What to do what to do. Let me know what you think. oNe of them is used and one is new but man they are both great guitars. Great Vid and thanks!.
still believe that these are the best guitars for the money. Setup was perfect when i bought mine ,just wish they came with locking tuners. i swapped them out for 18:1 tuners from ali - express for 40$ NZD. i put on locking Wilkinson saddles which made a great improvement for the tuning stability. i was lucky enough to get a little bit used ( but not like new but close) Custom 24 2021 In bonnie pink with the gig bag for 750$ NZD. leagues ahead in terms of quality Compared to my previous MIM Cabronita Thinline Tele . 100% Would Recommend
try the older mark tremonti signature pickups in this guitar and you will be blown away what a different that makes, i had the same model some while ago with pre installed dragon!? Pus and i never was a fan of it same with the tremolo, a dealbreaker sadly.. cheers ✌
Very useful review, many thanks. I'm thinking of buying one but I'm a little worried the neck may be too thin - 20.6m at the nut end? I had a PRS SE Tremonti which had a very thin neck and I always felt my fretting hand was sort of 'floating', so I ended up Ebaying it. How do you find the neck depth?
Leon: That combo's actually really interesting -- Me: But will it Tabor? L: --going for like a kind of Ty Tabor / Dogman style sound. M: GET OUT OF MY HEAD L: I'll let you hear. M: yez plz
A veneer (fake) top can produce a thing of beauty on any guitar, however if you have to overhaul it right out of the box, probably need something else!
Very cool. That intro reminded me of some John Sykes. Big bends and just epic stuff. 🤘♥️🤘 SE guitars are great. I've tried 2 or 3 and they were great. The single cut Tremonti I tried made me want it. It was just great. ♥️🤘 Always good stuff on this channel sir. Your playing just continues to match forward brother. ♥️🤘♥️🤘 If it were mine I would slap a Duncan custom 5 in the bridge just because that seems to be my tone. ♥️🤘 Great tone though with those pickups. Hey my friend check out this German guitarists you will love. Marcus Deml and the blue poets. I've been digging his style of blues, blues rock..♥️😍 I'm like you. Whoever says that's not a real PRS . I also don't know what that means. Be well and safe sir. ♥️🤘♥️🤘
@@LeonTodd Yeah. They are great. Just the right amount of mods, etc. I think they are wound very close to the same specs or close as a DiMarzio Super distortion . ♥️🤘♥️
@@LeonTodd You'll have to play that one again. I don't rember it. Is that the guitar your father bought you or you took over? 😂. I remember you had a PRS you said was your first real guitar if my memory doesn't fail me, and I thought you said you got it from your excellent father?🤘♥️
Paul has always said about his high prices that we just don’t want it enough 😐 now we can say that about his SE range of guitars 🤦🏻♂️ are used to say I wish I could afford a Paul reed smith guitar now I say I wish I could afford an Indonesian made Paul reed smith SE guitar 🥂
6:02 - the mix gets into the Tele ballpark. A big part of that sound is the way the lower-impedance neck pickup loads the higher impedance bridge pickup....
12:58 - I notice the same thing on my SE 24 Standard. Separate control over the pickups' series/parallel functions much the same way. Plus, it adds 1/2 out of phase via the tone knob pull switch, so there are a lot of sounds, including some transistor radio tones in there....
The SE Standard 24 started me down the PRS road. If their foriegn-made $499 model was this good, then the Core US models must be amazing, I thought. Now I have two SEs and 3 Cores. Just got myself a triple P90 Custom 22 with maple DGT neck....
Sounds great, plays great, well build, decent value for money. But icant shake the Dentist and Lawyer cheesey BMW driving image for PRS. Sorry that ain't what I call rock and roll. 🤘
@@LeonTodd oh I get that it's shallow on my part, but how a guitar looks, at least to me, is important. And these blingy AAA top types don't do it for me. Although an all black or all white Tremonti looks cool. They should bring back the half moons too. I think they are less gaudy than the birds
@@The_Macaroon yeah my ideal PRS would be my black singlecut but with moons instead of birds (or no inlays except for side dots). They play so well they don't need the bling IMO.
