Excellent video. It's the first I've seen comparing both -- and I've seen about a dozen in the past few days -- where I can clearly hear the difference between the two models. The American Silver Sky has a rounder, fuller sound -- more of a mid-range punch -- than the SE model which tends to scoop the mids to my ears and accentuates the highs a bit more. It's a matter of taste, of course, but I definitely prefer the American model. As for the controversial radius issue, I own a Fender road worn Vintera Strat (the 50's model) that also has the 7.25 radius. I absolutely adore that guitar and have no problem at all bending strings. My Fender American Performer Telecaster has a 9.5 radius. I love it as well, but don't really feel any advantage because of the flatter radius. So I would go for the American Silver Sky because I prefer the sound and am very comfortable and familiar with the radius

Great comparison, very interesting points, I'm not normally drawn to strats (love the tone but can't quite get comfortable with them), but might have to make an exception and give the silver sky a try. Brilliant video

I have been watching all of these videos and finally found yours who mentioned that the neck was satin and not a gloss thank you so much

From the videos I’ve seen so far the sound is close, but if I have to choose I like the SE sound more. Also a satin neck and flatter radius suits my taste. Only negative I can find is the colors and no locking tuners. I would have loved some nature wood finish.

I agree would have pulled the trigger but not in love with the colors. They don't speak to me at all. Love all the rest about the new SE. Especially the reports on the neck.

Great comparison! The SE sounds amazing. Questions: did you hear any 60 cycle hum? Question: during the 4 minute mark section, what song was that? It sounds like “Double Trouble” (Clapton version). If it is, you should do a tutorial! This would really challenge the SE and showcase the dynamics of the guitar!

I may be odd but I preferred the SE in nearly every clip.... Have you done a review of the SE NF3 Yet???? cheers Pete

Best guitar made today. For $899 it covers all bases. Musically usable in all positions. Best neck fit/Finish. It knocks it out of the park. The core is not 3 times better. In Gibson world the Epiphone is not in the league of the USA version. In Prs world, it’s really really close.

They're both ACE!! I shamelessly prefer the USA model, but the SE is also an incredible guitar and great value in my opinion.

NOPE The circle curve is radius X 2 ! So the circle is not 7.25 and 8.5 rather 14.5 inches vs 17 inch circles!

I think it's 8.5 to bring people in Lots of shredders and people who like flatter is a big chunk of the market and especially prs market And it takes lots more precision and a pro tech to setup the silver sky or any vintage fretboard radius So its 2 reasons, they wanna bring in a bit more of the market cause they know they closed off a lot, so even some people tried a 9.5 scale measure on the guitsr and said it's dead close to 9.5, And its cause setting up reasons My favourite prs is the DC3 and love it but even since I saw photos of john Mayer playing a DC3 before the silver sky, I know why the DC3 will never catch on, it's too unfamiliar looking, sadly too I miss the 25 1/4 scale length too, which is closest to the super eagle:) But I love and want the SE silver sky just cause I hate all the SE guitars, I hate the carve and want them to have the core carve, and the SE silver sky can be that guitar to get into the SE range but still feel inspired cause it looks every bit like the higher end core model, I think theres also something more inspiring about a more inexpensive guitar being amazing, why I also own a Squier made in Japan 80s squier But I still dont feel as inspired by the main SE range guitars cause I want a PRS either for an S2 or that core carve, nothing else, but this will gimme that DC3 feeling maybe finally, and the 8.5 will feel closer to a 9.5 typical more modern strat feeling radius enough for it to not feel too uncomfortably round cause me and a lot of others hate the rounder radius and are PRS purists and just love prs more then anyone else, so we dont want 7 1/4 cause we wanna bend notes and still not fret out! It's to get more people into not disliking the silver sky as much, and the PRS purists just DONT WANT A FENDER I hate how people always say If i want prs i want a prs, If I want a strat I want a fender, sounds like the dumbest argument, people love the silver sky cause they dont THEY DONT WANT A FENDER 😂 I dont like fender and their antics of 900 different fugking models🖕and 990 more series's next year. Dear fender it's not inspiring to annoy people with 900 different series of guitars

Also I believe synthetic bone is a bad term I think it's just the prs TUSQ nut

My current favorite guitar is the PRS Brent Mason, also 25 ¼” scale with 10” radius and satin neck. But I’m a big fan of Strat and John Mayer and thought many many times to get a Silver Sky, but the 7 ¼” radius is really something I’m not fan. So with this SE SS, having both a larger radius and satin neck makes it PERFECT, even if it’s not 1:1 the tone of the US SS. From the demos so far, the tone on the SE SS looks pretty good and close to a Fender Strat…

Very interesting theory re the fretboard radius!! Re the synthetic bone nut - that's the exact wording that was on the sheet I received from PRS. I LOVE the DC3!!!! Why does nobody talk about those?!?

I bought a core Prs silver sky literally 3 days ago and I’m regretting the thick neck. Maybe the setup is bad too cause I’m not enjoying the way it plays. Curious to see how much easier the SE would play considering the more flatter profile.

I've worked at a guitar shop for 20 years and sold PRS's the entire time - two things I'd mention about your comment. 1) It is unfortunate, but PRS's factory setup does not make for an entirely enjoyable experience. They tend to always set the string height too high. Sometime way too high. It's one of those things that dealers have complained directly to them about for at least as long as I've worked with them. They won't change though because it's the way Paul prefers his guitars. Get a proper setup with lower action and intonation, and I'm sure you'll be so much happier with your purchase. 2) The necks on the SE models are... and it pains me to say this... about 100 times better than the USA models. The radius is more forgiving, the finish is better, and out of the 15 we've had through the shop, they have all intoned better right out of the box (and played better). Also, the electronics on the SE model, while close to the core model, are much more in-line with a vintage Strat. Basically, if you want a vintage Strat sound that you can sculpt into your own tone, get the SE. If you want to sound exactly like John Mayer, get the USA model.

This video is for the people who can't decide if they want to spend 800 bucks or 2500. In the real world, a comparison of the Silver Sky SE and the Player Series Stratocaster would make more sense, since those are actually competing products.
