If you put peppers in large containers, they’ll grow really big and tall. I plant peppers in 20 gallon containers and they are quite prolific! I’ve grown jalapeños and Thai chili peppers. My Thai chili plant, usually grown as an ornamental, was over 6ft tall!

I only started growing peppers last year. I have to grow them indoors as I live in the UK. The harvest was quite good, I got 14 peppers off 2 plants. That's fine for me as I live alone. I kept them in a heated porch over winter and they have gone crazy, there must be 20 peppers on them even now in the spring, some nearly ready for harvest, with loads more flowers to come. I planted a new variety this spring 'California Wonder' I'm hoping to over-winter them this year too, they are growing well, might get a few this year, hoping they will go mad like the ones I already have.

Hey, I saw that thread on your first pepper PRUNING video about the topping/apical dominance (great video BTW). I have A LOT of hobbies to my wife's chagrin, and I've noticed in every one that there are those people who take it too seriously, want to argue semantics, show off their intellectual prowess, and generally ruin it for those of us who are just wanting to get a little enjoyment out of life. I'm all about learning and improving, which is why I watch RU-vid videos, but generally I no longer pursue any activity socially or join any hobby-related clubs, which often promote competitive pursuits. Those sorts of people are so tiresome to me. Don't let those people bother you and keep on making great videos about Southern gardening. Most of us won't nit-pick you to death. Subscribed in Arkansas.

In Malaysia where I am, storm and heavy wind are norm, so I actually heavily recommend that you prune garden plant (not trees) to keep it low so that wind does not topple the plant. I used to have a lot of 4-5 feet chilli plants strewn about in my garden, but after an especially heavy torrential rain one day, I learned to keep it small and stout. Big mistake, lesson well learned

I have seen comments like you talked about many times. People want to advertise their knowledge to tell what they know. Like you said its about what to do not the politicly correct term of what you did. I daily use the word aint instead of isn't like teacher used to chew me out over. funny everyone I talk to seems to know what I am saying. Just like I always know what you are saying/talking about on your videos

When I first tried this pruning I felt as if it was butchering my poor little pepper plants but the results were excellent. Pinching is a form of pruning so you are correct to call it pruning which is the selective removal of certain parts of a plant.

I never knew topping peppers was such a controversial subject. I always thought it was part of growing a healthy plant. I have a cinder block raised bed in my yard and I’m able to overwinter my peppers (uncovered) in those because the blocks absorb the heat during the day and release back to the roots at night. I love having fresh bell peppers in January this way! Northwest Florida zone 8b/9a

Great method and I totally agree, I do the same. As I am in zone 6a and due to short growing season, heavy winds, the best is to prune peppers. Plants growing shorter and much much stronger producing fast and way more. Great video, from a gardener to a gardener-thank you!!!

You must have done it wrong..... can not say how, exactly, but... it was something.... I have 100's of peppers, it's standard practice for me to top them at the 4th set of leaves. Instead of getting the single main branch, I get an average of 8... more sometimes.... I have pepper bushes, some are 4 and 5 ft tall and just about as big around. This is my first time watching this guy, but, he's right. I have been growing super hots for 3 years now. Carolina Reapers, Ghosts, Trinidad Scorpion, Trinidad Butch T, Armageddon and several others... I watched the pepper girl do it with some baby pepper plants 3 yrs ago.... She was absolutely right about what would happen. The nice thing about RU-vid is that you can watch someone who knows how to do it and knows alot more than you, and learn from them. ...

when do you top your banana peppers, like how tall? I tried it on mine last year after they had 3 sets of leaves but they still grew tall and spindly. Is there a better way? It worked great for all the other types peppers but did nothing for the banana peppers :/

@itsasickness4939 4 года назад
@@MollyMcBooter in the past I’ve taken off the terminal tip after 4 to 5 sets of true leaves and yes by the end of the season they were still tall and overloaded, but I like to let mine turn red.
