I saw your video and went ahead last year and pruned the candles of a couple of pine trees I planted a couple of years ago but just noticed I have competing leaders. The trees are about three years since I planted them but can I still cut off the competing leaders and when should I do that? They are about 6 &8 feet tall. When I bought my home 15 years ago it came with two large pine trees and now they are both over 30 or 40 feet tall and have wild growing branches that I can’t correct but I want to get these two new ones to grow correctly. Any help you can give me would be great. I can send pictures if that would help and you give me an email address

I have a question please MickmanGardenCenter I have a Douglas Fir with 2 leaders almost looks like 3 but the 2 leader has one coming off it half way to the top of it but that one is the one in the middle but the 1 thats thicker kinda comes at a curve then up like a U but goes up and in middle of half u is the main straight one but doesnt look that good thinking of cutting that one but the trees almost 4 to 5 foot tall and about 6 yrs old can i still cut it the piece is about 1 foot to foot & 1/2

So one Once my Austrian pine is too big for me to reach the top to prune do I have to continue pruning the top or does a leader just eventually take over?

Don’t cut candles or you will have brown needles! Candles are the equivalent of a telescope and so the needles are all packed down, as they emerge the candle elongates and the needles are separated. Best case is to tip the candle with thumb and fore finger. You perform this when the candle is supple

This sounds like a transmission from space. These must be space trees.
