If you have been following the channel, I made it abundantly clear that my house move process was a chaotic and disruptive one. It took 2-3 months to settle in, and in that time, all my plants have suffered badly. In this episode, I prune my collection and explain the how, the why, and the when of pruning. Its kind of an important episode with lots of care tips! We also meet a lot of species along the way. Pruning so many dead leaves is so healing as it signals rebirth, and new opportunities to rise!

Sean, this is the first time I've seen you so relaxed when presenting, even when you are filming away from home, that nervous energy was not there. Could be because you are now in your own environment, and a lot more relaxed mentally. Congratulations on all you have achieved so far. 💛

I usually get impatient watching long plant care videos but you're such nice company that I love watching your long videos! I don't know how the hell you managed to keep making videos and updating us during the move, but kudos to you and I hope you're having a better time settling in to your new place

I have SO much work to do in my yard, it's a huge block and it's sub-tropical where I am. It's been so hot and humid and intermittently pouring rain, the creek is so full... basically it's a jungle out there 😅😅 you've motivated me to get out there... once the heat backs off and it dries up!!

Thank you for this incredibly soothing video! I'm having with my first experience with pests after 7 months of being a plant parent- thrips, extreme difficulty. This is while we're getting less daylight, a lot of rain and cloudy days, and a cold front where temperatures will drop to freezing for about a week. I know that pests and death are a natural part of plant life, but it's hard not to be discouraged when a lot of my plants that weren't doing well last month are pushing out new growth (in particular, a root rotted calathea medallion that I rescued from a local nursery, which I split up into individual rhizomes and almost all of them sprouted new shoots! Couldn't have done it without your videos). I'm scared for my plants, but the biggest lesson I've learned from your channel is that plants live, they die, and they live again (to quote Mad Max lol). So it brings me comfort to see someone else's plant collection recuperating!
@onlyplants
@onlyplants Год назад
😀 thrips are some of the trickiest, more so than spidermites. Find a pest control regime that works and you will find the process calming. I love pest control days… its like hunting down pests and really trying to read signs by looking carefully

Thank you. This was very informative on the many illnesses of plans and how pruning can help: Leaves have their own life cycle and decay: doing maintenance pruning on dead leaves will allow the energy of the plant to go towards new growth. Illnesses: Browning on tip with yellow lining: -Plants expel water to the tip of the plant, so when it's over watered the excess can't escape and it turns brown and dries up. -solution: Browning on the side or middle of a leaf: -Likely fungal or bacterial infection -Make sure not to let the leaves touch other plants Solution: cutting along the dried brown so that green isn't exposed (or else the open wound can become reinfected) Fully dried up leaves (underwatered) Solution: prune off dead leaves completely if more than 50%, because it's using more energy to sustain a sick leaf than it gains from photosynthesis Brown or black crisping on leaf without yellow line: -underwater Repotting: When repotting, some of the roots may be stripped away (perhaps if you have root rot or in his case moving) -Now the plant is sustaining the same amount of foliage with half as many roots Solution: trim away some of the green so the energy from the roots can sustain the plant

Can i sterilize my pruning shears by washing them with soap and water? And what if theres a little yellow on the side of the leaves but no browning?
@onlyplants
@onlyplants 9 месяцев назад
Yes you can but they do rust over time especially with repeated washing. You can try burning sometimes, and maybe alcohol spray works too
@onlyplants
@onlyplants 9 месяцев назад
Yellowing on the side of leaves could be bacterial or funfal infection. Usually water related stress occurs at the tip of the leaves towards the front.
