@@We-oh1dw A. R. Rahman has done exceedingly well at the National Awards for Mani Ratnam films. In fact, out of the 6 music direction National Awards A. R. Rahman has won, 3 of those were for Mani Ratnam films (with each in different decades too). His 3 wins so far for Mani Ratnam movies were for ROJA (1992), KANNATHIL MUTHAMITTAL (2002) and songs for KAATRU VELIYIDAI (2017).

@Perseus Vlasov yeah... the movie had flaws for sure. It's not the worst movie per se but requires more than one watching to even understand what's going on (if you didn't read the books). There is also the problem that most of these characters have pseudonyms which makes it impossible to understand in other language without subs.😅 Idk abt the Trisha Aish example though. It is meant as a one-sided subdued anger on Trisha by Aish. The reason why they had problems with each other is revealed in the first scene of PS-2 isn't it? Idk abt you though but Tamilians watching the movie knew about Ponniyin selvan also knew Arunmozhi is Raja Raja Chola. It may have made a difference as to why root for him. He is also the only character who is actually noble in the entire movie like Bahubali in Bahubali series.

Thank you for not making us wait❤❤... Kundavai was not actually the one who had Nandini removed... She only ratted out about the two to her grandmother and her father the Emperor... It was the Emperor who had her removed... The reaso: Her stark resemblance to her Mother!

No. At that time she didn't resemble her mother. Nandini was kicked out because she was a commoner and an orphan. The Crown Prince's wife needed to be someone who could bring Army or Alliances to make the Throne secure. And that's not Princess Kundavai's grandmother. Sembian Mahadevi is the wife of the previous emperor who gave the Throne to Sundara Chola. And also the mother of Madhuranthakan the cousin who makes a bid for the Throne with the help of Aishwariya's husband. Sembian Mahadevi is a master strategist and Kundavai's mentor in the spy games and statecraft. In the book it's she and Kundavai who kicks Nandini out. In the movie Kundavai goes directly to her father, the Emperor.

@@geetadhumane5793 Sembian Mahadevi is Kundavai's grandfather's brother's wife. So SM is sort of Kundavai's Great-Aunt. Maybe Kundavai addresses her as Patti because in the grand Indian tradition you generally address every elderly woman in the family as Grandma. All I remember is everyone addressing SM as Periya Piratti (Senior Queen) and Kundavai as Ilaya Piratti (Younger Queen). Probably because they are the only women in the Royal family residing at Pazhayarai.

The Emperor and the Empeess were taken to Thanjavur by the Pazhuvatariyar's for safety precautions otherwise The Emperor used to live in Pazhayarai too..... Pazhayarai was the capital uk... Thanjavur was made capital during the rule of Ittama Chozha

I read the book before both films released. I really wish they could have made a series of this story. It was a faithful adaptation but they had to skip/change a few plot points to simplify the screenplay and not confuse the audience. For example: Vanthiyathevan (Karthi) decides/vows to himself that from that point of the story, he is going to speak only the truth despite any trouble he might have to face. This was because lies only got him into deeper troubles during his travel to Sri Lanka. That is why he actually tells the truth about the prince's survival to nandhini and he won't reveal anymore. He instead decides to leverage the situation with his Intel about nandhini's mother. 😅 The most I miss about this movie is Vanthiyathevan's internal monologues on what to do at certain points. For example, he is smitten by Nandhini but he emphasizes that the only reason he stays sane is his love for Kundhavai (Trisha). In his first meeting with Nandhini (in PS-1), Vanthiyathevan being the ladies man he is, nearly lost his mind to her beauty (like every other man in front of her) and that's why he gave the scroll without any thoughts. He sighs and thanks the gods that the scroll's message was something he just made up on the spot to enter the fort. He even says if he had to stay there any longer he would have totally fallen for her. 🤣

Yeah but no adaptation can keep the inner monologues right!? 😊. My favorite monologue of VT is when Arunmozhi refuses the crown of Sri Lanka in the monastery... Dude is fuming and then later rats out to Arunmozhi forgetting that he is the prince

what annoys me the most about ps2 is that they skipped the whole pplot about the real madhuranthakan which is sendhan amudan. they literally crowned the wrong king.

The first 15 minutes flashback / childhood portions of aditha and nandhini is portrayed as per the sangam literature " Nedunalvaadai" The main character , the male female lead is refferd as Thalaivan ( male ) , aditha , vikram Thalaivi ( female) , nandhini , aish can be whatever two lovers , husband/ wife , king / queen. Thalaivan searching for thalaivi through the woods Thalaivan telling Thalaivi that he is going for war. unwillingly Thalaivi sending off Thalaivan. Thalaivi yearning for him and telling about her lonliness without her Thalaivan to the nature ( to the river in ponniyinselvan) Thalaivi leaving water lamps for the well being of her Thalaivan , praying for him . her love towards him becomes even more stronger. After the war , Thalaivan returning to the palace in the evening after sunset women welcoming him with lamps on the plate In the morning Thalaivan goes to meet thalaivi. in this movie aditha and nandhini's childhood portions were captured like sineppets of this literature. but in the novel it's not there their childhood was said in just a line left for us to imagine. it's Maniratnam's vision to the literature. ✨✨

Guys, it's been soooooo long since you reacted to a Malayalam film. Please watch the movie *"ohm shanthi oshaana"* with *Nivin Pauly and Nazriya* in it. The story of a girl's transition into maturity and her teenage love is the focus of this incredibly tranquil and consoling film. In contrast to the serious, one- timer films that we typically see in the industry over India nowadays, this movie follows a simple and sweet storyline that you end up wanting to watch repeatedly. Please see it, Achara and Steph or Imtiaz. It will give you a different perspective on the Malayalam cinema industry. ♥️😭😭 P.S A lot of non malayalis have found interest for mollywood movies begginning from this one 😀

Nandhini always lets vanthiyathevan to go without killing him because after killing karikalan they have to escape and vanthiyathevan will be accused wrongly for that. moreover she has a soft side towards him

No, if you read the epilogue of the books, you know that nandhini actually liked Vanthiyathevan for his charms and free-spirited nature. She convinces herself most of the time to let him live in these situations instead of killing him

Aishwarya truly is very beautiful. Now that she aged and with so many cosmetic surgeries she looks different...she still has her charm but in Movies like Devdas and many more you can see her true beauty. If she did this role at those age her character portrayal would have been even more spot on....but again still loved her in this movie...she never disappoints

@@aadil2o12 dude it's not an excuse. You cannot condense a 5 part book series... each with at least 500 pages into 2 movies. The amount of characters they had to skip; sequences they had to rush through is obvious when you can only make 2 movies. (The logic being the success of bahubali and kgf made it a safer bet to be 2 movies instead of 3 movies) I understand your point that they are supposed to give a good movie out. That though will make them simplify the story and not be respectful to the source material. In the end it turned out to be flawed and a bit rushed but still a good effort. These kind of movies are essential though. Adapting hit source materials if made money future movies can be made similiarly with a higher footfall. Hell even the same kind of book series can be made as a 3 parter or even a series becoming much more of an enjoyable franchise. I understand it being their job to make a perfect movie but not every movie turns out impeccable. Good efforts need to be appreciated. It's not like everyone can do a perfect job in any situation. I mean you'd rather go sit in a PS-2 than an Adhipurush right ? 😅

Don't need to read any book to know a movie is trash. Part 1 left me wondering about these characters. Part 2 shows me I was smart not to order that book

This movie is a more grounded movie with a lot of socio political matters from the chola dynasty. People can't even accept good movies these days. They are so proud to say that they slept on Theatres of the screening of a movie, which shows our real history. Wars aren't always about glamourous nd stylish..

@@deku.squad709 see, even Ps had its touch of overaction scenes, comedic scenes in unwanted places, unbelievable fights (like the one where nandhini's mom died, Arun moli didn't even got one scratch on him Also on top of that what is Sundar chol doing in his gallery with such a huge architectural flaw right infront of him from the underground tunnels? Also what kind of spy Assassin's say they want to kill the king infront of everyone and be confident? (The moks comming scene in the beginning in sri lanka )

The director of this film, Manirathnam changed many scenes that were in the book. The story completely changes in favor of BRAMINS (India's Top Racists). So you're not actually watching Ponniyin's selvan, it's kind of Bramins' selvan.
