Here we have the Sony Playstation 3 60GB model, a $600 investment, dead after 13 months. After spending over an hour on the phone with Sony's tech support, I was told that there is nothing they can do, even though my warranty expired just one month ago. My only option is to pay $150 for a refurbished model, which will only be covered for 90 days. I then talked to a manager, and asked him about Sony's warranty being extended to February 29th, 2008. He said this is true, although it only covers the 20GB and 60GB models purchased in November and December of 2006. My 60 GB Playstation 3 was purchased on January 3 2007, 3 days after December. Sony will not replace my Playstation 3, despite the problem being completely random and due to hardware defects.
Thanks Sony

Sony has extended the warranties on the 20GB and 60GB models purchased in November and December of 2006. This leads me to believe that this particular batch is known to be defective. From online research, the yellow light problem seems to have been reported with the 20 GB and 60 GB models only, both of which were discontinued. My 60GB model was purchased on Jan. 3rd, 2007, although it was manufactured in December of 2006. I believe this system was manufactured in the defective batch that is supposed to receive the extended warranty, although my system does not qualify because it sat on the store self until January 3rd.
