is it enough to just clean old thermal paste and top it off with new one every other year? I'm about to do this and would much rather not risk delidding and am perfectly fine with reapplying thermal paste every other year
@@RehanKhan-il7dl you have to have something really sharp and thin enough to squeeze in between the gap of the lid and cpu. Even then there's still risk. some people say to use a thin fish or metal wire line as doing it with a razer blade is not the best approach. Good luck
agreed. I've killed my ps3 when i tried it the first time. the cpu/rsx luckily seems like the substrate/chip is fine but I'm getting 20 second ylod. not sure whether i accidentally cut the substrate/chip or knocked some caps surrounding the chips off. now i hv another fat ps3 & i didn't bother the fan is loud af 😂. i hv learned my lesson
People please don't use this, it is the worst method. You could easily scratch the substrate and cut tracks. I would suggest using thin nylon fishing line, it cuts smoothly after using a little hair drier on the IHS. Or a feeler gauge gives more control. I have successfully delid many ps3 and Xbox 360 IHS.
Yes it is very dangerous way. I used nylon fishing line to remove the batteries from my MacBook a few days ago and it’s better. Thanks for the comment.
@@martinalmaestro7265 also it is very difficult to remove IHS of ps3 slim Cech 25xx (some models) and newer. They have some dimples on the substrate. It is doable using fine steel wires that is used to seperate mobile displays; but the risk increases and a lote of patience. See the dimples in below video. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-leyWFdQD7wA.html
Yup confirm that cause i killed my PS3 Slim CECH 2001B. 6-7 years ago i have no experience in deliding and scratch some tracks under lid. I use half of the razer blade with pliers like in this video and tried to do it more carefully but unfortunately i scratch and cut several routes on the substrate. Then I try to solder damaged routes with thin wire core but it turned out unrealistic without microscope. In final my console is dead :( Still stands under the TV, maybe someday when I want to play it again I'll give it to replace the chip.
The best tool I could come up with to do deliding, was a metallic nail file. They usually have a smooth area of 1cm in the tip, where I bend it to about 100 degree angle. Then grind and wet sand the tip until its something like 0,3mm thick, pretty much as thin as you can possibly get it. Before starting the delidding, heat up the IHS with a heat gun and remeber to pull the tool little bit upwards when your slicing the silicone, so it rather touch against the IHS than the chip below the silicone. If the tool is thin enough, you can easily slice a one side in one motion, then turn it carefully in the corners and proceed to next one without taking the tool out. If the tool is not cutting the silicone easily, then continue to sand it thinner until it does. Also remember to be extra careful and slow when approaching the end to avoid scratching anything when the lid comes loose. This is where many people have fucked up in their attempt, since a tiniest scratch on the chip can destroy it.
NOT ALL PS3 CAN BE DELID'D!!! Some of them were glued instead of using silicon. Removing the ihs means a brick/or complete mess. This is mainly on the slims and beyond.
This killed one of my ps3s. I kept the rest of it for parts. From what i read, its been proven these don't cause YLOD. The capacitor chips tokens right below the cell and RSX are what go bad.
The capacitor chips are the main cause of ylod among PS3 users, but not the only one, there are some other posible causes too, there is a guy on internet who did an entire list of posible errors of what could cause it
attempting to Delid cpu with razor blade without experience is very very dangerous , because under the ihs , on edeges of cell pcb is full of tiny printed traces which if you make any scratchs on them by mistake, then your ps3 is done for good ... take it serious guys, i mean it.
For people who has YLOD and want to try this , first try to change NEC/TOKIN(after checking error codes) , if this didn’t fixed the issue , try heat up CPU
Ayy stop making videos like this as this is probably the easiest way to kill the ps3 a shaving blade and a pair or pliers come on just terrible how many ps3s have you killed using this method
