15 years later I still have my PS3 that my mom bought me and sitting in the same room with the PS5 I got myself from Sony. Love these consoles, retro and new alike.
With the difference, that 15 years ago, there weren't that many people knowing much about technology like CPUs and all that. Back then, comparisons like these were mindblowing, which are now very common.
Trust me man it still holds the legacy of what a backward compatible PS with unique innovation looms like. & Yes when it comes to price I don't think Sony would ever dare to launch any model with MRP of USD 600 ever again.
@Mai Va Lee - Yeah but the speed of loading the store has nothing to do with the amount of GHz the console has. The PS3 was way too overpowered, thus it costed a lot of money. It's not a surprise that the 2006 PS3 is more powerful than a standard PS4 system.
Way back in the day, some poor guy had just moved in with his non-gamer girlfriend. She noticed my post offering a Nintendo Wii for trade. Within 8 hours of posting they had driven to my house with his 60gb PS3 in box with a couple of games. I could see the pain through his smile as they walked away with their new 3rd hand wii in hand.
Great video :) took me years to find it apparently...Lance Henrikson's voiceover is so epic here. Took me a while but finally weened off my 360 to ps3 once the games started improving. Cant say I was ever a fan of all the multiplatform titles struggling to run well and installing times on the slow ass hdd... except mgs4 snake smoking with tips for healthy game playing breaks. What a crazy high launch price!
Incredible how long it’s been and how revolutionary this machine was for the time. Also, Resistance: Fall of Man was amazing and was the first game I ever got for it back in late 2007. Btw the PS5 is a few months away and not only does it have immensely better CPU, GPU and RAM but also the biggest improvement since the PS3: the SSD. And an ultra fast one too. Both PS3 and PS4 were heavily bottlenecked by a painfully slow HDD. That is about to change both in the speed of the system, multitasking, loading but also in the design of games. Maps will be larger, denser and more detailed and every texture will load up almost instantly. Fast travel will really be *fast* and the map around you will be able to move much more quickly with no drawing distance limit / pop-ups, to give a much better sensation of speed in driving games. Can’t wait for this.
I feel bad this generation will never get to experience a console release like this. It was amazing. In 2 years we got the 360, the ps3, and the wii, we also got the biggest game launch of all time with halo 3. Everybody was waiting out to get it. We didn't care that it was pre ordered we wanted to be arround our fellow gamers. Spend hours meeting new people playing our handheld, hearing rumors about what new consoles will do or what would happen in the game. People in line respected eachother and we could walk off go eat at taco bell hell we even went to kmart for an hour. We were in line for halo 3 for 16 hours and every second of it was memorable. It was great getting the game and the system but the greatest memory I have was spending time with my community. Every single clique from school was out we didn't mock eachother or group up we all just enjoyed the excitement. It's somthing that will never happen again because of digital downloading and the fact that games come and go so quickly. This generation is too entertained so they miss out on so many great moments that come from anticipation. I remember when they announced the psp. I walked 3 miles to the eb games and put 25 dollars down. Any time I would get any money I would emwalk down to the store and put it twards it. Even if it was just 5 dollars It just felt great being that much closer to the greatest handheld of all time. And all that effort all the research and dreaming and working toward my goal made it amazing when I finally had it. I would make sure any time I was done playing I would clean any fingerprints off of it and put it in its little sleeve it came with.
I see your point about the fanboys, but we have to learn to ignore them. About the bottleneck, I thought about that too, but the guys at Nvidia that make the gfx card say it's no problem and that they can use all the memory of the system for games at any time (not just half), so 512Mb is not that bad, not that bad at all.
PlayStation is a king since ps2:) How war goes PS2 win against Xbox Ps3 and Xbox 360 are a tie of war Ps4 win a war against Xbox one :D PlayStation is a king :)
Graphics were better through the console instead of the video. If you want a comparison compare an orginal ps3 game to a remastered version of it on ps4. You will see that there isn't that much of a difference
i allready got ps3 and this is the first time i see this commercial but oh my god this is how they should make commercials on tv if they want to sell sdomething
since the good days of gaming in PS2 and PS3, everybody talks about graphics, about the multiple ways to tell great stories and showcase beautiful environments with the new technology. sadly, now in days we got that, good and beautiful environments with new technology, but with bad stories, bad characters. we see so much realism in these new games that, it gets boring, nothing special, nothing unique, nothing memorable, and specially broken experiences. which makes these same people want to go back in the past, go back to the PS2 era or PS3 era, where they feel as the best age of gaming for Playstation.
It really wasn't. The PS3 was an absolute failure at launch due to how ridiculously expensive it was at the time and the cell processor was so advanced that nobody could figure out how the fuck it works, so most 3rd party games basically emulated their games from the Xbox 360 onto the PS3. This was why 3rd party games on the PS3 ran and looked way worse than the Xbox 360. Thankfully it got WAY better in late 2009 when they changed their policies and released the much more cheaper slim model and the PS3 got some incredible exclusives in the end.
