My ps4 still isn't particularly loud after 5 years of having it, but I love watchjng videos like this one. I opened mine up and it had barely and dust in it. I really don't know what it is with all the consoles at my parents' house, but non get dirty (except for our ps one. Working on cleaning it and getting the yellowing off of it's controller). The only console that I ever had to clean because it was so loud, louder than my ps4, was a ps3 I bought from a friend of mine. He had 2 and only needed one and my ps3 just refuses to stay on while playing games. That one was fairly dusty, but it was really easy to get to the fan and clean it. It's really quiet now, not any louder than a brand new ps3 slim. If you're careful, taking apart your ps4 and cleabing it really isn't that hard. Controller, not so much. I broke one of the thingys holding it together while opening it. It needed a good clean and I didn't want to break anything important when trying to clean it with the electronics still inside. Still works and holds together properly though.
excellent story, i'ma pin it and hopefully more people read this to become motivated to take apart their consoles. i hear too many people say "i cant do that, i'll break it" when in reality if your carefull, you wont. i believe in everyone no matter what.

I haven't broken anything other than plastic yet, so I try to fix my own electronics as much as I can (I mean, I can't solder or anythung like that, but if it's a loose connection or something like that, I might just be able to fix it myself) ^-^ But a friend of mine is too scared to break something when taking apart his ps4 for cleaning as well, and now his ps4 is very very loud. (Like, you mostly hear the ps4 during a call when it's on) Maybe I can convince him some day ^-^

Mines a launch ps4 that's never been cleaned and sounds like it's about to take off from a runway. Wish us luck when I get round to it. Edit: had little to no effect at the time I did it. Good practice mind you.
What kind of screwdriver is supposed to be used cause none of mine fit the screws and it looks like there's a little point in the center of the screws and idk how to clean it without the right screwdriver
Before I cleaned it my ps4 sounded like it was an airplane about to take off. Now it only sounds like a pickup truck going 35. Not bad to say the least .

imComplex yeah I cleaned mine and it won’t power on now. I press the button ( mines the motion sensor button) and the light turns fully on and then powers off

Royal Twist na, theres very good temperature controlls on the ps4, if the motherboard is not too hot, it wont turn the fan up, as it gets hotter, the fans power increases, its a quite fan (when the ps4 is clean)

Some said don't clean with a vacuum cleaner etc.. since you've done it while unplugged, I mean no power like I recently did to clean. It means it's safe, THANK YOUU, also the part where the heat sink are situated is it really important, PLZ GIVE ME DETAIL TO PREVENT OVERHEATING
Hashim Ooz what i do in this video will prevent overheating, check one of my really old videos about the ps3, its called "ps3 fan mod + rebug" you can do that to the ps4, but its not fully necessary

You've absolutely saved me and my PS4 with this video! :D Mine's second hand from my brother (who bought it when Infamous 2 Second Son came out) and it's been playing fine, but the fan has been SUPER LOUD (especially with games like Bloodborne). Today I gave it a good clean with the Torx screw kit I ordered and followed your video (not the power supply though). And now? I HEAR NOTHING. Not even as the PS4 boots up nor with Bloodborne anymore! Can't thank you enough, I'm very grateful for this helpful video! It was relaxing (and funny at times) to follow! Will definitely recommend this to anyone I know who has a loud PS4. :) Update: The fan is significantly quieter but I can still hear it. That's expected, right? 😱
in my opinion, i feel that warranty's are a scam anyway, typically in most cases, a console will never naturally die out before the warranty is up, i wouldent hesitate to rip that sticker off, i've done it countless times, never had a problem
i mean, you don't have to worry about keeping it in good condition until after the warranty is already up. Just treat you shit with respect until then and if it fails, get a brand new console with a new warranty. If not, then pop that bad boy open and clean it as well as you can to keep it going strong.
I do understand it’s a ball ache but by the time your PS4 is roaring your warranty has well and truly been up. I’ve had a PS4 for 3.5 years and me and my dad are going to attempt to clean it. My stomach did a little flip when he started taking the PS4 apart 😩

When u use liquids to clean dust it makes the surfaces more prone to dust clumping and sticking. Thats my exp cleaning fans and heatsinks. I prefer a good can of air and some detailing brushes. Doesnt leave any residue for dust to hug

Oh wow, you are one of the first people I actually hear thath you want to keep cleaning and take care of your stuff, especially consoles. When I don't have my console turned on, I always over them with a towel or something to keep the dust settling on the console which flies through the room away as much as possible and therefore as clean as possible. I also wipe my consoles, before and after a session, with a dust cloth. My friends often laugh at that, but to me it is very important that my consoles last as long as they can. I bought them, I spent the money on them, so I want to take good care and keep them working, because they are not cheap.

+Rinor Novaj they are not common in stores, i found an allen key set at home depot that had tamper proof torx ONCE, but it was an allen key set, i think home depot is the best bet
They really need to make it easier it takes me minutes to clean my pc all i need to do is remove 4 thumb screws and i have access to all of my components

Thanks for making the video. My PS4 looked as dirty as yours did. Also sounded like an airplane before I cleaned it. Now runs silently. For those that don't have any canned air or similar, I just used a lint free cloth to wipe it down and used q tips to do the rest. Now runs like new.

Dont use pressured air because when you use pressured air you are actually pushing all the dust inside the console. You can clean your ps4 properly by using any kind of q-tips or a micro fiber towel.
Oh my gosh man, I was seriously about to throw away my PS4 because I couldn't find anybody to clean my PS4. So I said I'll look at some videos to help me clean it. Got red dead redemption 2 played it my ps4 sounded like a plane landing. Followed this guys directions quieter than a mouse as i play red dead redemption2 great vid very helpful.
Great tutorial. Removing the stickers voids your warranty, though I think the standard PlayStation warranty is only valid for 12 months after purchase anyway.
Just get a small flat head if it's small enough it'll wedge into one side and you'll be able to unscrew it then sometimes it breaks the security pin off which is even better because then you just need a regular torx. I mean you already voided the warranty anyway what's it matter if you break the pin on the screw head then. Best of all you probably already have the flat head and regular torx if you go that route.

Following your advice of taking things apart and cleaning them, I now have to bury my dog. In all seriousness I have a launch edition PS4 which I haven't cleaned purely because I thought it would invalidate the warranty. I recently bought COD and I honestly turned it off because I thought it was either going to blow up or take off.
Clean it up! Warrantys are a scam anyway. Enjoy COD with a fresh working ps4. NOTE. For a quick clean you dont need to take the top panel off. Just bottom. P.s. sorry about your dog
Where can you pick up one of those plug in dusters? Probably can save an arm and a leg over the long run with one of them instead of constantly using canned air like myself.
i was using canned air for a while, and just blowing money down the drain, electric duster was a very smart buy, it's called "data vac duster" or if you just search that you'll find one, they're more expensive on amazon, ebay has same dusters for about 20 less

Just followed every step on the video and now the PS4 won't turn on, tried everything, power switch, eject button, controller, opening it up again to assure all the cable are securely in. The thing is the Fan wasn't even dirty, pretty much ruined a perfectly good console for nothing. GG
Try powering it on WITHOUT the shell on top. By pressing the power button directly. On the mobo. Make sure the console is put together 100% except the top shell. The power button is a touch sensor.

Mine is a launch day ps4. Never been cleaned. Sounds like a plane. I cleaned it and it’s extremely quiet. It almost sounds like the fan isn’t even on. I might have to check it out Update: I put my ear to the back of it and I can feel/hear the fan it is just extremely quiet Update: that 7 years old Hard drive failed and erased all my data... I think. Update: my mother was “cleaning” my room which means stealing my money. :( but she dropped the ps4 while it was in rest mode which completely erased EVERYTHING off the HDD. :( I re updated it manually with a usb but all my game’s accounts and everything els is GONE :(
