The fans aren’t specific to a model number and it’s random which fan you end up with which explains why my 7015 has a Nidec fan and the 7215 in the video has a delta fan. Same goes for the new PS5 and with that system there’s 3 different fans.

@@Edgewell16 the coil whine is caused by 2 blue capacitors in the power supply. The noise will vary by game to game due to different power draw but it won’t get worse over time. The PS5 is also victim to the capacitor buzzing too but it’s nothing so worry about.

@@fearson7831 Lol.. take care of my console? Smh.. I always dusted it off few times a week, vacuuming the vents, had it standing on top of a table with perfect airflow. I had it replaced 2 times by a NEW sealed console and the fan noise was always as loud even when it just got out of the box. Try a X1X and you'll know what I'm talking about Sony pony.

You're gonna want to replace the thermal paste on the APU. If you're comfortable doing it yourself, it's not the difficult, but you just got to watch some videos. Mine was the same until I had the paste replaced

I feel that the 7200s fan just doesn’t spin as much as the older revisions. I don’t mine that it runs hotter as long as it doesn’t actually overheat which it doesn’t.

@@racerboyo Thats true, in another vid someone measured the temperature from the CUH-7200 Series and it was slightly under 70°C. That are temperatures I dream for with my gaming laptop under stress.

There both good but I think the CUH 7015 is built slightly better internally due to it having an extra metal shield on the APU. However If you can get ahold of one the PS5 is definitely the PlayStation to get as it plays almost every PS4 game is performance is significantly better. The PS5 is also quieter than every model of the PS4.

@@Link-zm2uz I have a 1080p monitor so 4k is disabled by default and boost mode really only affects games that came out before the PS4 pro so (from my experience) it all really depends on the title you're playing

Yes at the time of this video the new thermals were applied around a month prior this video was recorded. It’s still held up well to this day too and I highly recommend it to anyone with an older model Pro that’s OCD about the sound.

I recommend either MX-4 or Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut thermal paste and Thermal Grizzly thermal pads. Make sure the pads are only 1 millimeter thick. Liquid metal is great but risky. It can spill out on the board and destroy the system and it also slowly eats away the heatsink over time. It is however very good at transferring heat but personally I wouldn’t use liquid metal on a console. Quality thermal paste works just fine.

My X1X is a little bit quieter that my Pro but both are pretty quiet. Wolfenstein 2 is the only game that makes my Xbox get kind of loud but it’s not bad at all. I might upload a noise comparison with my launch Scorpio edition X1X and my launch Pro.

The 7215 in this video isn’t mine it’s my brothers. My 7015 is still going strong after replacing the thermals. I would highly recommend just disassembling the 7015 and changing the paste and pads since it’s about $25 for both and the screw driver to disassemble the console, assuming it’s the quieter fan noise for your motivation to upgrade.

If it’s fan noise that goes up and down then yes a thermal paste upgrade would more than likely fix it. I’d also recommend upgrading the thermal pads for the ram modules.

Racer Boy How much quieter did your 7015 console get after applying the Kryonaut? Was it huge or just noticeable? I still have Kryonaut lying around (was for my PC) but I am hesitant since I don’t want to void my warranty in case there is hardly any noise difference..

I'm not gonna lie I was skeptical at first and last sunday I sat down and completely took apart my pro cleaned it and changed both the thermal paste and pads (thermo grizzly) and I'm impressed games like gran turismo sport, Detroit become human, Spider-Man, and GoW have gone from turn my pro into a warfighter jet to a damn whisper I definitely recommend this

Changing the thermal compound is the only real way to make the launch models quiet.

@@racerboyo I did change out the thermal paste and it did make a difference just not as much as I had hoped. I'm just glad it turned on and hasn't overheated on me yet.

If you have extra paste still try replacing the thermal pads too. The stock ones are tinny.

I can’t hear it with my headphones on at decent volume about 6 feet away at all but when they’re off I can kinda hear it

The 7015 is mine and the 7215 is my brothers.

The coil whine on this 7200 isn’t that noticeable in person but it’s still rather annoying if you sit close to the console.

Great question, but I can’t confirm or deny but I’d assume they are became the plugs are the same and the molding looks the same at a glance. I’ve swapped fans from different model PS2s and they work but don’t fit as snug.

@@racerboyo That would be nice since I'm currently downloading Wolfenstein 2 and I guess both games (Doom) are pretty demanding. My pro sounds like a jet taking off while playing Doom.

Karazu X If you don’t mind taking the console apart I would highly recommend changing the stock thermal paste and thermal pads. It’s pretty easy and takes about 30-60 mins depending on your comfort and experience level of taking things apart. The Pro is easy because there are arrows that point to the screw holes and there’s only about 2-4 different screw sizes. If you have the time and tools I highly recommend it.

The drives in most if not all older PS4s sound like that when you first turn off the console or with the first disk you insert when it’s turned on. It’s also loud like that when installing the game on all PS4s. As for it being off the shelf the PS4 disk drives are custom made by Sony. Sony has been using custom drives since the PS1. I’m glad you noticed the drive difference because no one else seems to notice.

I think the next Pro would likely be a slim model probably a year before PS5 or released at the same time.

@@racerboyo yeah they could move from 16nm to 14nm which would cut power consumption a bit like 20-30w. To get it real slim like the XO X they would have to put in a vapor chamber cooling which would add cost sure but offset that via being slimmer i.e less materials. Mind saying that I think PS5 will have vapor chamber so maybe they will have it on the slim pro because having a similar design saves on costs.

Both models are reliable but the 7200 is newer so you are more likely to find one in better condition. If you care about the noise level of the fan, I would strongly recommend changing the thermal paste with MX-4 and upgrading the thermal pads as well. But in all honestly I don’t recommend the PS4 Pro anymore because a PS5 can do everything a PS4 Pro can do and even better and much quieter. PS5 also aren’t hard to find anymore and are easy to order and I’ve seen them in retail shops as well. I would recommend just saving more money for a PS5 and I’d recommend getting the one with the disc drive so you can buy cheap used PS4 and PS5 games.

@@racerboyo You're absolutely right, thanks to backward compatibility I can buy physical PS4 games and the PS5 recognizes them without any problem. but there is a problem related to that and that is that the ps5 consoles and especially with the floppy drive cost much more money and even used ones are more expensive (new ps5 $900 and used ps4 pro $450). I really thought about the option of the ps5 that also comes with liquid cooling metal but it costs twice as much as a ps4 pro and I'm talking about used ones. As a last option I buy a cheap ps4 pro in good condition and I make a Modd to make a hole in the lid, I do the maintenance of the pads and I have a good console left. In Argentina there are many price problems, surely in the United States it would be nice to buy a ps5 from afar but not here :( Thanks for your help anyway

@@lean_drito7256 with the PS4 Pro you could also just leave the lid off if you want more cooling with minimal effort. I used to do that when playing God of War before I changed the thermal paste and pads. Sorry to hear about the prices of consoles in your area.

@@racerboyo It's true, just like any Sony or Microsoft console will get hot because they come fully refrigerated. It is always better to have a PC as is my case and that is why I want to buy a Sony console to play their exclusives. With the ps4 I can play all or almost all the exclusives to this day since they came out for ps4 and ps5 but in 2024 onwards they will stop coming out for ps4. I'll see what I do but I can still play many exclusives with good graphics on the ps4 pro. Thank you for your recommendation and help =)

My personal launch Pro is quieter than most PS4s I’ve seen because I’ve replaced the stock thermal paste and thermal pads and the 7200 is just a quiet if not quieter than most Slims but mileage may vary between units. Overall fan noise isn’t an issue with the 7200 Pro and I would highly recommend one if you have a 4K TV.

My PS4 Slim is quieter than PS4 Pro 7216b

The slims my friends have are all louder than both my Pros. There CUH-2015s and CUH-2115s.

Got a 721b / rdr2 bundle in the uk and its pretty quite bar some bits in rdrd2 - usually looking around wide sceneries. Its acceptable though so ill keep it til ps5 slim comes out in 3-5years Not as quite as my slim but then again, graphics and frame rates is worth the minor upgrade

All Ps4s will get loud as hell even the slim. give it several months and it will start to get louder on certain games.

Mr. Masse the fan is on the right side and the left vents don’t do too much. You should feel cool air in the right and warm to hot air from the back. If your Pro is uncomfortably loud I’d suggest getting it exchanged at the retailer you bought it from.

PS4 has awesome exclusives but other than that the X has all the major title games plus tons of backwards compatible games... both have their strengths .... X is a powerhouse whisper quiet system, literally no noise at all under any circumstance...

@@Ghost-je7gn I’ve had zero issues with my PS5 other then one game crash on Cold War but my buddy on PS4 has had way more issues with Cold War then I’ve had on PS5. In general I would have more hiccups and crashes with one day of using the PS4 then I’ve had with the PS5 the past 3 weeks. Definitely pick it up when it’s back in stock.

You can’t really get the older models new anymore without paying extra so I’d recommend just getting a new 7200 Pro. The slim is ok but if your upgrading I’d say get the Pro because it’s only $100 more for over double the GPU power and faster load times.

@@tbc_castles782 Kind of like a buzzing noise yes. I'm just hoping that it's completely normal, I've had the PRO for like 3 weeks. My previous base PS4 (2013 release model) was only ever loud on the newer games, and that was the fans only.

@@tbc_castles782 Just the buzzing noise pal, and pretty much only on RDR2. I really only noticed it because I had the TV on mute. I knew all about the coil whine etc, but also thought that the newer model of the PRO (RDR2 Bundle Version) was a revised model that had addressed this issue.

There are 3 different models 7000, 7100 and 7200. The 7000 and 7100 use the same power cable and the 7200 uses the same cable as the original and slim PS4s. I would say get the 7200 because most 7000 and 7100 models have loud fans unless the stock thermal pads and thermal paste are replaced. Lastly I really wouldn’t recommend the PS4 Pro anymore now that the PS5 is out since the PS5 runs all the games drastically better. I know that PS5s are sold out everywhere and really hard to find but I’d say it’s well worth waiting until spring or summer to get the PS5 instead. If you currently have a regular PS4 I’d say just get a big external HDD or even SSD at the moment because it also works on PS5 and you don’t have to reinstall anything and it frees up space on the PS5s internal drive. The Pro is ok if you find one for under $200 with some games and accessories but even if it’s your first PS4 just get the PS5 because it plays all the games and with PS Plus you get the Plus collection which has 20 of the best PS4 games for free.

I would really love getting a ps5 as you recommend but right now but dont have the money for it, ive owned a ps4 fat for bout 4 years of almost daily usage and want to sell it to get a ps4 pro with about a year of usage, just because i feel like mi ps4 is really dirty in the inside and deffinetly cant do all the cleaning because i know i will screw it up jajaja, thats why im looking for another ps4 but really cant afford right now either a new ps4 slim nor a ps4 pro you know, just want to change my old ps4 fat for a not so old ps4 and wanted to upgrade to the ps4 pro, what do you think about that man is it worth it changing it for a ps4 pro even do its a little bit used ? @@kobym5134 again I would say just stick with your old PS4 and save up for a PS5 instead. The Pro is a minor upgrade when compared to the PS5 and not really worth the upgrade anymore, especially on 1080p displays. If your too scared to take apart and clean your PS4 I would recommend vacuuming the vents. It’s not the most effective method but it still helps.

No not at all when it comes to functionality, however there’s a higher chance the fan might me loud depending on how used it was. Most of the changes for the latter revisions of PS4s just make things cheaper to manufacture.

@@kuso4506 it’s super easy to clean the fan which can help a little bit if the fan is running loud but the only hard solution is to completely take apart the console and clean the heatsink and change the thermal paste and upgrading the thermal pads for the RAM. If you’re confident with taking apart electronics it’s on the easier side and well worth doing but if not headphones or loud speakers work too. There’s also a chance it’s not loud either but I’d thought I’d share some suggestions if it annoys you.

The CUH-7000 is overall better built then the CUH-7100. It has a nice metal support plate that covers the back side of the APU and RAM. There’s some with bad thermal paste and pad application but for the most part I think the 7000 is the best Pro.

Andrei Toader I just looked mine is CUH-7016B aswell and playing any non enhanced games it's very quiet but playing pro enhanced titles makes the fans kick in, I heard God of War is the game to make it loudest yet I just got it and it's loud on the main menu but quiets down once I hit continue... weird? Detroit BH makes it loud but not as bad as some videos I've saw on RU-vid!

I have cuh-7016B and is very loud in games like Hitman: Absolution when It have unlock the flame rate.

They’re about the same and I wouldn’t say one is better than the other however if you are looking to by a Pro for whatever reason get a 7200 model since they are newer and likely have less use. But if I’m 100% honest don’t bother with the Pro and just wait to by a PS5 because it really is that much better. I managed to pre-order one and I haven’t touched my PS4 Pro since I got it. In fact I gutted the drive from the 7000 model pro since I have no reason to use it anymore. I know it’s an absolute pain to get a PS5 currently but trust me it’s worth the wait.

2016: 70XX 2017: 71XX 2018: 72XX The last two numbers vary depending on what region you live in. For example in North America it’s 7015. All three models cool about the same however the earlier model tend to be a bit louder but even then that’s not always the case. And again I don’t really recommend the Pro anymore but if you’re going to get one get the 7200 since there newer.

Ask the owner how loud it typically gets. Typically early and poorly taken care of units get loud and the later ones are quieter. If you don’t mine taking the unit apart changing the thermal paste will always make it quiet.

Dirty fans and heat sinks are another reason they can get hot and loud.

Mate, mine was did cleaned and pasted thermal.. the sound more louder than new =.='' The cleaner told me that because mine Pro has cleaned, fan is light, so that makes loud.. =.='' But I don't think so. My Pro after 1 year i bring to dust clean, I don't think the dust will think as dictionary =.='' Now days I play MHW, Division 2, the sound like Jet engine, Rocket launching @.@, GT Sport sometimes will, and other game too.. but I'm living in Japan, winter season, room temperature average 15 degree Celsius, when I going back to Malaysia, even I play light game, sometimes also will have little fan sound. Does the jet sound can cure ? I found many from Google, even RU-vid, but can't get a solution. Very annoy :( :(

If it’s from a launch PS4 yea probably, but if it’s a launch Pro or close to it just replace the thermal paste and thermal pads.

The B means it ships with a 1tb HDD. A = 500gb (most original models and early slims) B = 1tb (few original models, newer slims and most Pros) C = 2tb (as of early 2019 only the 500 million Pro)

It’s the original model and in terms of build quality it’s in my opinion the best model. If the noise bothers you and you don’t mind taking the machine apart you can always replace the thermal paste and thermal pads and while your at it give the unit a good clean. Once you do that you’ll have the quietist and coolest running PS4 Pro.

I find that all the PS4 models can get loud but it depends on the game, dust build up, and quality of the thermal paste application.

Unfortunately coil whine is rather common on the later PS4 Pros and there is no real solution other than wearing headphones. So your PS4 is fine I also used google translate for years in Spanish class and I know its not the most reliable but I think I get what you mean. Thanks for watching my video and commenting! Probably a better mother board and or APU if I had to guess. Digital Foundry’s analysis shows that the 7100 is actually the most power efficient Pro. The 7200 also is noticeable warmer to the touch when compared to my 7000.

@@racerboyo I think in order to use two prong cord in 7200 the power supply in the new pro has to be 250w max. The power supply in old pro is three prong and 300+ w. It's overkill. I would assume by the power supply the newer model is more power efficient

@@ps5stuffguy the fan probably is toned down due to the power supply not needing the extra fan power because it's a less threatening supply. Pushing hot air out of a machine is good thing

It’s not broken but I’m not sure if it’s common. Mine used to do it too and to fix it you need to change the stock thermal paste and thermal pads. There’s plenty of guides on RU-vid and it’s fairly easy and cheap to do. I recommend Tech Savvy Buyers video.

There is probably a fan RPM limit on the newer model because it’s fan noise is much more consistent than the older launch model. My 7015 used to go from silent to max speed to mid level back to max and then be quiet than max speed. It was annoying as hell because I don’t mind fan noise as long it’s consistent but my fan was out of control. When I took apart my Pro I found that one of the thermal pads on the ram was t even fully on the chip so that was the problem with mine. My launch Pro is fairly quiet these days but it’s still inconsistent. My brothers 7200 still sounds the same as it did when it was new so it’s holding up well. I manly play Destiny 2 and both Pros in my house are pretty quiet. It’s honestly not worth upgrading to the new model but I would recommend changing the stock thermal paste and thermal pads. I used thermal grizzly for both. Sorry for the long reply lol

Dequarius Walker I play both but more of a PVE guy. I just ran 6 raids this weekend. PVP is ok but Dust rock, Luna’s, Ward-cliff and spectral blades get old and I have yet to touch comp this season. You could also tell from the profile pic that I’m a salty Titan main lol.

@@racerboyo lol no worries. I've reach fable this season solo and deleted the game due to comp and having no friends to basically do pve with. It's a shadow of a game compared to it's former self and I don't blame you for being a salty titan main.

Dequarius Walker. I remember hitting fabled in comp the first week of Forsaken because of all the PS Plus noobs and my team got a nice 25+ win streak. Me and my buddies we’re all mad at each other a few months ago so I didn’t play much during Black armory since I was lonely and didn’t want to look for new people to play with. We just got back together last week and I’ve been enjoying my time with the game again.

My launch PS4 did that so I think it’s normal. Hell I think my launch Pro makes a slight tick when turned on and off.

I believe it’s just the spindle or laser moving in the disk drive. I think all PS4 do it.

@@racerboyo so the ps4 pro requires 1.0mm thermal pads? What made you go with thermal grizzly? I use Arctic cooling MX-4 on my i7-6700k cpu and it never gets hot 25c idle 32-40c working. I have a new package of Arctic cooling 1.0mm thermal pad. Seems very good quality.

It matters more that the thermal paste is fresh and high quality, such as MX-4 for example, and I’d also suggest swapping the thermal pads on the RAM modules. Another RU-vidr by the name of TechSavvyBuyer made a great guide in 2018. It doesn’t really matter which model you buy/have at this point since they all have old thermal paste unless a previous owner has changed it themselves. And even with fresh thermal paste it will still make some fan noise on games like God of War and the 2 Pro’s in this video are both just about best case samples. If you can afford it I’d just suggest getting a PS5 as the fan noise is near non-existent on that console and plays all the same games as the PS4 Pro and most of them even better. I’ve had the original PS5 since the day it came out and it’s still as quiet as the day I got it. Lastly, one thing to try is playing with the top cover removed and the fan exposed, it’s a ghetto solution but I used it briefly before changing the thermal paste and pads on my CUH-7015. Hope this info helps and isn’t to overwhelming or confusing.
