PS5 Controller Easy Drift Fix Guide 

You absolute legend. I'm not a techy guy. Capable, but zero experience when it comes to getting under the hood of anything with a chip. Followed this step by step and was able to fix some mean left drift that had made the controller worthless. No more doing some weird "press joysticks in, circle left for 15 seconds, then right for 15" hokie pokie crap every fifteen minutes to re-engage the contact point. Bless you. You are a legend. I, a 45 year old mum with no electronics experience, have just fixed THREE DualShock controllers this morning 🎉

I was really bummed out, 3 of my 4 controllers are already unplayable. I saw this video and comments, bought a tool set (these are really cheap) and just finished the first controller.....IT WORKS AGAIN! You are a legend, wish me luck with the next two.

Just completed the whole process, literally a few minutes ago. Was playing GoW Ragnarok and could sit my controller on the sofa and Kratos would happily veer off to the left all by himself. Just fired the game up again and so far so good. Cleaned and also bent the little metal housing as you suggested. Many thanks!

Great walk through. Had stick drift on my original controller, ended up buying a new one and sticking the white controller into a drawer and moved on. After my 2nd controllers x button stopped working. Figured I'd try to fix my original controller and found your video. After cleaning both greeny blue plastic bits. The controller works like it just came out of the box. Now i feel more comfortable attempting to fix my second controllers x button. Appreciate you saving me 70$.

Oh Joe, you’re a star. I’ve not had to deal with one of these yet (touch wood) but when I do I’m glad to see how much easier they are to get into than the Xbox Series pads. I’d probably also have gone straight to replacing the stick, as I’ve done in the past, but I might give your method a go next time!

Works 🎉 I was able to fix a left drift issue… on a “new” controller. When I had the controller open the little tabs near the mic had already been opened, and poorly.

Thanks a lot for the video! This took care of my stick drift issue. I'm not sure of the name of the part, but those white plastic bits that you pull out the potentiometer, one of mine was in pretty rough shape and the metal was bent a lot more than normal. I no longer have stick drift, but my look sensitivity is faster to the right than it is looking to the left. I bought a cheap Amazon kit that includes the potentiometers and all of the internal parts, I'm going to try replacing just the damaged white plastic piece to see if it helps. Unfortunately, I broke the mic ribbon cable (lower bottom right cable that you warned us about) trying to get it back in. Good thing I rarely use the mic, I can use my other controllers for that functionality 😂

You just saved me $70 and earned a like and sub. A gentleman and a scholar.

Tried this, it didn't work the first time - in fact got worse, but then tried again and was more 'forceful' with the amendments to the spring mechanism on the potentiometer thing, and it worked the 2nd time for some reason and solved the stick drift completely. So has saved me £45. Quite a bit harder, and more fiddly than repairing the Switch Stick Drift, but worked in the end. Took me about 45mins - 1 hour to do it twice.

Brother what are u making me do there is no blue tab there still a connection on the top of the motherboard ribbons aren’t black their white and small not to mention another ribbon that connects to the top of the motherboard that makes it impossible to flip. I practically tore the ribbon off the socket piece. Idk if mine is just a different type but I’m not looking at what ur seeing and now I got a broken controller

I did basically everything in this video step by step, and now my left analogue stick won't go left at all. What did I do wrong? Have I broken the controller?

A ribbon fell out when I lifted the motherboard off...is it important or nah? Doesn't look damaged or anything, it just kinda fell out. I compared the amount of ribbons your controller has to mine and noticed this one seems to be an extra one so...I'm not sure what to do :( . It might be for my controller mic, because now it isn't working on my controller.

One scary thing that’s happened is at the part where I’m replacing the potentiometer, when i close the teal bit and test out the rotation it feels stuck for a second everytime i go up and down, have i broken the controller?

My character moves left or right when im moving my L3 but my R3 is the ones that turns

So i have a ps5 controller and everytime i really really gently and barely move the right joystick to the right the camera in the game moves to the oppisite direction. Can you help me please i googled this up like a bunch of time but it seems like no one has the same problem i have

This fix worked perfectly but for only 1 week! I have 2 of these controllers that both had the same left stick drift (leftwards). Did this fix and was super happy with the results but just a few days later the issue started to come back little by little. Appreciative of this video but overall very disappointing as I'm now back to square 1. Not sure what to do next... even thinking about having to buy another controller makes me angry.

No joy. Cleaned the contacts up on both ends, bent the wee contact part out a bit more, lined it all up, clicked it all nicely, checked the action was smooth. Put it back together.... still drifting to the left Also quadruple checked to make sure I cleaned the right part 😂 Oh well

Maine, servicing modern electronics is a nightmare, it really feels like they do their best to making these things a pain to take apart, ribbon cables were invented by the devil, so are plastic clips, whatever happened to regular screws and a simple board with components man...

Worst advice he gave is to bend the little metal things on the white part absolutely leave those alone it definitely cause a minor drift. Everything else is superb

Actually we dont mind buying new thumb joysticks if it drifts few year apart but not the whole controller!!

This is absolutely ridiculous that we should have to do this. This issue is so common on the left control stick specifically. Sony needs to make a better fucking product. Ffs a $70 controller should work longer than 6 months

This controller is such a b****. Whenever something goes wrong, I have to open up the whole thing again and deal with all those ribbon cables. I really miss the straightforward design of the old PS2 controller. Yeah im old but sexy!

I don't want to two controllers already and the last one is brand new Sony is milking us and it's sad they're putting a bowl of milk and telling a cat not to drink it they don't care for us long as we keep spending money and it's sad that a PlayStation 4 controller is still $60 for $10 more dollars you can buy a PlayStation 5 controller this is sad gentleman the same gaming anymore it's all about money

This fixed nothing for me. I shouldn't even have to try to fix a 2 week old controller that has never been abused. Sony probably spent more money paying to keep the class action lawsuit against them for these garbage controllers as quiet as possible than they did paying people who fell victim to the Dual sense stick drift problem.

My 20 years PSX dual shock is dirty plasatic is gray yellow coz age and analogs work like new, my brother dual shock from ps4 die after year and my ps5 sense from the box have drift... from 3 controler i bay i must fix 2 drift and controller dont have even 2 month... sony rly need replace potenciometr in sense to old psx immortal one type... Becouse this is joke. If i must open and solder controller who i just bay new in shop. This is factory problems not ppl who bay ps5... Problem can be ez fixed is ps5 update drivers in ps5 controller give us dead zone as defoult, becouse 0,00002 is drift even if analog is still ok, why position as defroult not let us have little dead zone where minimal mistake like this will be ignored. And no one need clean controller like this from microscopic dust...
