PS5 How to Fix Stuck in Safe Mode Error | Only Option 7 Available (2022)

This video gives step by step instructions for trouble shooting all the options you have in order to escape the Safe Mode on the PS5 when only Option 7 can be selected. Also known as Error SU-101600-8.
Unfortunately I had to take the last option available but it all worked out in the end and I hope I'm able to help out anyone else having this problem.

UPDATE: Since posting this video I have been trying to figure out what causes this error. I'm hearing it might be caused by a power surge or outage during a system update causing some corruption of the software. It also seems to be the case that this error is showing up more frequently on PS5s that are always left in Rest Mode instead of being shut down completely. I would suggest always shutting your PS5 down completely when not in use.

You may want to get more air movement behind the ps5 as well if it is too hot it can power/heat spike too.

Hey this just happened to me and it was because I was updating dead by daylight then it said that there was an error and that I can’t install it so I tried restarting my ps5 then it said repairing ps5 and then I got stuck on option seven I’m going to try what u did in the video in a moment

So this must be a common issue. Pretty upset with Sony. I shouldn't have to spend an evening after work researching, troubleshooting and repairing faulty software. I don't even use rest mode. Not to mention I'm going to have to re-download all of my games and I'm losing all the progress I made in said games because I don't pay extra to backup on the cloud. My Nintendo from 1988 still works fine.

fuckin crazy ik, i just got a ps5 for christmas and i start it up working fine it gets stuck processing on 99% for atleast 3 hours so i unplugged it and am now in safe mode with only option 7 telling me i have to get a usb and do a bunch of bull shit that idk how to do SHIT IS FUCKIN RIDICULOUS

Having the same problem after my ps5 was unplugged in rest mode so I’m hoping this works for me as tried all the options yesterday but really didn’t want to factory reset, looks like my only option now and your video the only real helpful one on RU-vid 🤞🏻

This is a timeless video. This problem could hit you at any time, and day. For me it was today. I was terrified, but you talked me through it. None of the fixes worked, but they didn’t for you either. You gave me the courage to do it. I had all my ps4 games stored on extended storage, so I only had to redownload about 3 ps5 games, RU-vid, and sign back in. Thanks a lot. Earned a sub.

@@dt_glxry565 for games like NHL with career modes I lost my saved files, but with games like Fortnite with accounts you sign into, I lost nothing. On Batman Arkham Knight my save file was still there. Didn’t lose anything on Rainbow Six Siege either, but my cosmetics were unequipped. Only issue is redownloading all your games/apps, and re signing into streaming apps.

Thank you so much😅, I was freaking out, especially when I couldn't select any other options. I suspect it was because, in my country, we have something called loadshedding, a scheduled power outage. But this one was unexpected, so when it came back on it booted me into safe mode. Ive learnt that i should just leave my ps5 off when i dont use it.

Your the man! Got a second hand ps5 from a friend and when I turned it on this is what I saw. Watched loads of supposed experts with fancy mics and studio setups and was thinking I'd have to use a formatted usb drive to reinstall everything. Stumbled across your video, followed you said and job done! (He did reset it before giving it to me, I'm thinking this issue may have been linked to that?)

Bro this happened to me when my systmr update finished and now it only boots up on safe mode, only option 3 and 7 show up . Tried option 3 multiple times but keeps saying something went wrong each time it finishes. Cant even uodate my system.

Hi All - I have PS5 stuck in safe mode (only “reset” option is highlighted) which throws error CE-100006-7 when attempting to restore from USB. Usually this error points to issue with USB, however, error shows on multiple USB sticks and all USB ports. Will go through the reading update file from USB, but goes to start copy/preparing console page and hit 8% then throws the error code. I do not think issue is with USB ports/circuit as it reads the contents on the USB . Anyone seen this before?
