The names changed a while ago (like a year or two). The reason they've changed so many names was because they must. Holbein was understandable not okay with a not licensed 1:1 copy of their product so it came to a litigation and Brutfuner had to change their names.

Hi Vee!!!! I purchased these dupes 4 years ago and was pleasantly surprised how nice they were and they did closely match the Holbeins which I have. They were almost as creamy too. Love the colors and the dipped ends of the pencils. Wonder if this new set is as good as the first. I might have to buy it if it’s still under $20 like the first I got. Tfs ps just checked price and they are even cheaper $13.88
agreed! i think they're great dupes with holbein being more pigmented but that's a given. and yes! i got them because they were much cheaper than the original price of $20..
i think brutfuner rename these pencils since they released the 72 set (which i love them so much), still with their affordability there’re some repeat names (two spring bouquets) 😂 that’s why swatch card is important.
Are Holbein colored pencils worth the high price? Half of their colors failed lightfast tests according to the Colored Pencil Society of America. I'd rather stick to the dupes.
well, if ur priority is lightfastness and that’s the info u got, then i guess it’s not worth the price tag. however, personally i dont mind lightfast ratings and prioritise the feel of using them as well as pigmentation. holbein are definitely highly pigmented and i cant recommend them enough 😊
I bought a set of 12 Brutfuner Macarons last month and compared them to a handful of open stock pastel Holbeins I already own. The color match and user experience are indistinguishable so far as I can tell. I wouldn't pay the extra money for Holbeins, though I do recommend you pick up the soft white. It's even softer than Prismacolor and definitely worth having around.
I happened to own them both. To be honest, you won’t be able to tell the difference if you’re not experienced with colour pencils (not saying you are not). I lend my few hobbyist friends (who loves colouring books) these pencils and covered both the pencils with stickers and asked them to try it, so they won’t be biased. They said it felt similar just that the Holbein holds the point better and that it seems to blend + layer better. Otherwise, it feels quite similar. Personally, I have used them for years, I would say that if you’re not planning to sell your artwork Brutfuner is a great alternative, unless you specifically use these pastel colours for your professional art career, there’s no need for Holbein. It’s a luxury artist colour pencil. You can buy pastels colours individually from a mixture of different artist quality brands even Holbein. As for the lightfast test, I can’t speak for this as I never done this myself. I remember there’s a video of someone doing this but I can’t quite find it now, I will edit and share it here if I do find it.
I was worried there for a second 😂 I do own the Holbein color pencils but I use the Brutfuners for practice. I’m glad they still perform the same just with the name change. There’s a possibility legal action can be taken, so that’s most likely why they can’t be exactly the same anymore
@@PaintinHiding I tried searching in Japanese but I didn’t see any. This is just my speculation but probably a discreet “cease or desist” or “copyright infringement” warning has been sent. I can’t be sure. A lot of these kind of dispute are not done publicly unless there’s a huge controversy. Japanese can be quite protective of their copyright based on my experience living and working there. But I had a feeling back then the typos were made on purpose to dissuade such action. But with so many video comparing them directly I believe it caught their attention. But again this is just my speculation 😅
I really hate when knockoff companies write descriptions with lousy English. Their listing on Amazon gives the impression that they are water soluble pencils. After digging further through the reviews, you discover they are not. Hire an editor!
