PSA: EARTH'S OWN OAT MILK IS NO LONGER GLUTEN-FREE!

Earth's Own announced this week that they will be removing the gluten-free claim from all of their oat milk products, as they will be switching from using gluten-free oats to regular oats. This change will make the product unsafe for those with celiac disease (and non-celiac gluten sensitivity (NCGS), gluten intolerance, or other gluten sensitivities).
This news is truly upsetting, both because I know many people really enjoyed this product, and also because there's a good chance many people will purchase this product, unaware that it's no longer gluten-free.
Be sure to check the label on this product when you see it in the coming weeks, and make sure it says gluten-free. This is also the product that all Starbucks locations use, so unfortunately oat lattes are also now off the table. 😭
Please share this video, so as few people get sick (or glutened) as possible.
Have another favourite gluten-free oat milk product? Let me know in the comments. 🙏

Here is the statement from Earth's Own (on January 10th, 2022):
"Hey plant fam, we need to chat.
We’ll start off by saying that we are NOT changing our best-tasting oat m*lk formula that you know and love, but we are making changes to the oats we source and updating some language on our packaging.
This change won’t affect us all, but it will, unfortunately, affect some.
The oats we currently source are gluten-free and Canadian grown. However, we are losing our gluten-free certification as we switch to standard oats that do not go through the same level of allergen testing. We will be starting with our shelf-stable oat products in January, but this transition will happen over the next couple of months.
The truth is our country and planet are going through some pretty drastic climate changes that are affecting Canadians each and every day. These changes are having real-life implications for everyone, especially our supply chain and Canadian farmers. The drought this summer significantly hurt the harvesting of oat crops across North America, reducing the supply of oats overall and even further limiting the availability of gluten-free oats.
Because of this, we’ve had to make the really tough decision to move forward with sourcing standard oats in order to continue to support our Canadian farmers.
To our celiac and gluten-free community, we completely understand that this change is very upsetting to those who love our Oat M*lks. We want to assure you that you can still enjoy our Almond M*lks and Soy Barista as these will remain 100% gluten-free.
We understand that this change is frustrating - If you have any questions or concerns, please drop ‘em below, head to our DM’s, or connect with us at consumer@earthsown.com - we want to hear from you.
Yours truly,
The EO Team"

Literally the BEST gluten-free channel of all time!

Hi, Thanks for this video. I was just at the grocery store today and noticed right away the label change ( I’ve been diagnosed Celiac for 11 years now, and I have definitely learned the “every label, every time” many moons ago 😂.) what a disappointment! If you are in Canada, like me, silk makes some gluten free oat products ( or at least they do for now ). Their barista shelf stable isn’t bad, comparable to earths own.

Thank you for informing us. I guess reading the labels is a must even if you have relied on a product.

That sucks! I still haven't talked to my GI doctor about my celiac biopsy results yet, but the GI surgeon who did the endoscopy gave me a strict gastritis diet to follow. I had been following it until this last weekend when we went out of town, and I broke the diet. I didn't feel so good come Monday. I tried to follow the diet during the weekend, but restaurants and fast foods places we went to with my husband's family didn't leave me many options. I remember you talking about the cucumber you ate at one place. smile! On a happier note, I received a new-to-me Kitchen-aid Mixer from my SIL. It needed a new on-switch, husband ordered one and I was able to try it out yesterday for the first time! Yay! Husband wanted to know what accessories I wanted to go with it and I said I don't know yet. I have the paddle beater, the dough hook, the whip beater and the plastic cover that goes over the bowl. Any recommendations?

This is the best gluten free RU-vid channel you literally know what every celiac goes through including me I was diagnosed with celiac about 3 weeks ago and a few months ago I was also diagnosed with type 1 diabetes so it's kinda hard to find good food I can actually eat but the diabetes doesn't make a difference to what I eat because I can eat anything I want as long as I take insulin before eating it but now that I have diabetes it makes everything much harder but when I found this channel I was so happy thank u ☺️☺️👍👍❤️

I’m celiac and this is my favourite oat milk. Nice!

"Regular oats" in the sense that it will be processed in a facility that also processes gluten and they cant control the cross contamination. Seems like having a strictly gluten free facility is too expensive for production

Hey Robyn! I’m from Canada and was wondering if there’s any other oat milk that is celiac safe that you know of or would recommend?

Hey! I’m currently working on finding a good alternative. 😊 I stocked up on the Earth’s Own barista while it was still available so I haven’t tried the alternatives yet. Maybe I’ll have to do a follow-up taste testing video. 😂 There are 3 celiac-safe alternatives that I’m aware of-Silk (tried it, not my fav), Chobani, and Elmhurst. I haven’t tried the last two yet! Elmhurst is pricy but they also seem to have a barista option. (P.S. Apparently Tim Horton’s will be using Chobani for their new Oat Lattes!)

Got an questions for anyone with answers :) I’m new to the GF life style. I’ve read online that pure/organic oats are naturally gluten free, is this true? If so, is Earths Owns removing the GF because of cross contamination?

I'm super late to this but damn, I wish I'd found this video sooner. I'm pregnant and for months had been craving regular dairy milk, but last week I was baking and using oat milk...guess who ended up getting a super severe glutening? I really wish they'd put stickers on the cartons or something saying "no longer gluten free."

Oatly is gluten free and delicious. Not sure if it’s available in Canada though.

@@robynsglutenfreeliving I should clarify - in the US, Oatly products are certified gluten free. I found this statement on their website regarding gluten: “When it comes to gluten, it depends on where you live. In the US, our products are made from certified gluten-free oats and (consequently) labelled as gluten-free. In Europa and Asia, however, our products are made with so-called “low gluten” oats, meaning they contain less than 100ppm (mg/kg product) - and even though that’s a very small amount, they cannot, of course, be classified as completely gluten-free.”

I knew there was something wrong with this oat milk for quite some time. It was odd that every time I had this gluten free oat milk I felt off. But of course, i would never blame the milk! Then I stopped drinking it for months until one day, I craved it. After about 5 minutes of drinking the milk, I was dizzy had nausea and felt awful. Rest assured this milk already showed signs of not being gluten free!!!! How disappointing this is. I hope no one buys this milk anymore to prove that transparency is the key to faithful customers.......without customers Earth's Own will not exist!!! Hope there are other plant based milk companies out there that will learn from this and hopefully already plan to have the best Gluten Free Oat Milk out very soon!! Thank you for the info!!

I feel like I will always be left out of the Oatmilk fad. Don't like the GF versions available to me, Happy Planet and Oatly. I drink Not Milk now.

It's very easy to make but I've found it doesn't last in the refrigerator long.
