Not a single person I know has ever used WhatsApp. The only reason many people know about it around me is scammers contacting them asking to message there.
KaiOS had potential, but without communication apps makes it difficult. I don't mind for whatsapp, even if it's very popular on my region. A new Telegram client is in the works and will soon be available, I'm hoping for it.
I needed this video :( last week i bought an Ipro K2 with KaiOs. I was so happy to have a featured phone but i didn't run whastapp. I look for information in every place of internet but i couldn't found any certain answer. I wonder if this will be the nail in the coffin for KaiOS and finally convince the handset manufacturers to stop releasing new KaiOS devices? Appreciate the PSA by the way! I wasn't previously aware of this and it will affect some people I know.
That's hard. I tried the Nokia 6300 4G and on last friday it isn't really work and it's not available in the kai os store. So welp, I need to look after another dumbphone with a key, which isn't expensive. Thank you Jose for the Video on this :)

Question: Which feature phones run Android 14 and will get upgrades in the future? I don't really need Whatsapp, but I would like to have a good mp3 player with folder play and m3u playlist possibilities so I can run my music library from the Sd-card. There's probably more such music players around for Android than there is for KaiOs and S30+...
There are no android phones that have promised updates sadly. The best you can do is the TIQ Mini M5 with the latest OS. If you want support and updates, dumbing down a smartphone would be the best option
@@JoseBriones The TIQ Mini M5 looks great, but not available in Europe, I think. I have tried to dumb down my Samsung A14, but I miss a physical keyboard. Thanks for your advice anyway, maybe I might stumble on a TIQ M5 here in Europe, I will keep an eye for it.
The problem isn t what's will not work on kaios, is kaios that in europe is not going to release any software update. Around the world version 3.0 is already available since a couple of years or something. I would love to see a serious flip or dumb phone sold for 250-300€ with a good hardware, nice built quality, right memory and display.
Just received a KaiOS device to day. I have tried workarounds to try get WhatsApp going and not succeeding. The phone is useless to me now. I bought it on a trip to Aus. Returning it will be too difficult.
Sin el WhatsApp, no tendría caso usar el WiFi, solo te queda la opción de mensajería convencional y llamadas. Recién perdí perdí la opción en mi kaios de usar WhatsApp 🥲😕
Thanks for the warning. I don't use WhatsApp except to call home from Scotland. I have a Nokia 6300 for work that has no camera. It is otherwise a good phone.
i never really saw the point of KaiOS. if you want an open-source linux-based phone operating system, you can just install Android. With all the optimisations google has made it will probably have better battery life and offer more hackability and updateability. i think there is however space in the market for a lighter operating system, like nokia's S30+.
Al parecer no es tan bien visto por las grandes empresas el auge que estan teniendo los feature phones. Quitarles WhatsApp es hacer que varios poseedores de estos teléfonos terminen regresando a un smartphone con scroll infinito. Ojalá los SMS volvieran a ser la forma principal de comunicarse usando texto.
Almost there tbh. We will have to see over the next few months if they are able to gather traction on other apps or convincing WhatsApp to come to KaiOS 3.0
I don't need WhatsApp and I don't care. I installed WhatsApp a few months ago just for curiosity and I didn't use it even once. What matters for me is working web browser, working Google Maps, contacts and calendar sync and nice modern looking UI. I use phone for SMS messages and plain calls. Not USA; Central Europe, Poland. What would be nice for me - working Facebook Messenger, with notifications about new messages. Notifications never worked and Messenger is not there in KaiOS after Meta introduced encryption. But it's not big deal for me, it's just small inconvenience only.
Hi i have a cat22 flip but in the Netherlands it keeps stopping the connection to my provider and keep saying no service, stores say its because of 3g, i still can’t find solutions but i have given up and now i realy still want a dumbphone but work and fam use whatsapp unfortunately maybe you could help me with finding a phone in Europe. @@JoseBriones thank you for your fast reply, I’m very sad that the cat s22 stopped having service for me cause its been the best i had so far, i have a question though maybe you could test it. When i had to go somewhere i hanged the cat 22 on my backpack and as i was skating or biking i could just listen to the voice instructions without having to look at the screen. Does the ttfone support maps, it does not need to have accurate gps full function but direction indications do you think it could support something like that? Would love to keep that way of commuting around, otherwise i would go for a bike gps but that’s more money haha, maybe you could stresstest maps a moment on the tt970 Thanks again for doing these videos, very informative :).

We just have to learn to transition ourselves away from time-sucking, data-mining apps in general. I know it's not easy but remember that most of what people sent on WhatsApp was inconsequential and forgettable.
yeah, i think it would be great if the EU mandated fall-back to RCS for messenger apps (or even SMS). then we'd all have a way to communicate securely with an understandable financing model.
Hi Jose, I bought a nokia 2720 but it doesn't have a functional SIM in yet. The device does have whatsapp installed. Does this mean I won't be able to use it, as I haven't already logged in to whatsapp? 😪

Idk. I never tried gaming on it. I don't think the phone is made for that. Does it lag? It depends on the apps you use. You can use the palm phone whichever way you want!
Saw you after buying one, These fkers big techs will never let me shift to dumb phones. Migrated WhatsApp to my laptop Bluestacks as I don't use Whatsapp that much.
No way 😭 I wanted a flip phone with WhatsApp but accidentally ordered a Nokia 2780 flip without WhatsApp. I just ordered the Nokia 2720 flip to have WhatsApp. Now I can send that back aswell 😭
KaiOS esta en declive y Meta no quiere mantener la aplicacion. Es una lastima, pero la plataforma no ha avanzado lo necesario durante los ultimos meses/años.
İts meaningless to have a dumbphone with features like whatsup, hotspot. Because you cannot use them effectively. Your battery drains like hell. You cannot even get half day in heavy use of these features
It’s most likely due to technical details, like encryption. It needs frequent updates, processing power, key infrastructure, etc… I was wondering how they got Whatsapp on there in the first place, as it claims to have strong end-to-end encryption for years now.
KaiOS didn't provide enough reason for Meta to update or support KaiOS on the long term. That's the simple answer, but it's composed of many other issues.
