The price you paid wasn't bad, at the height of the pandemic I was at Nationals in Chicago and it was $250 per card to grade. I brought 500 cards with and only graded one because the price was way more affordable and makes more sense then gambling on singles from boxes. Thanks for sharing appreciate the reveal. Oh one more thing, check out the vid I have on tools of the trade, there is an awesome mag with light that Amazon sells that is amazing! I use it for all things I grade so I know going in what to expect. Because with older stuff there are so many things that old print process effects on grades. Take care.
Love seeing the return videos! I'm not feeling PSA on that 6. That really sucks! Wish they gave grader's notes so you could understand. I think the 8's are pretty standard given the couple flaws you pointed out. PSA 9's are VERY clean in my experience. I had 2 recent vintage star wars returns and one was full of 9's which was awesome. The second one, I got 8's on 1980 Empire Strikes Back cards that I thought would gem. Got a 7 on a 1977 card that I thought was for sure a 9. Highlight, though...I got a 1980 #59 Yoda "Welcome, Young Luke!" in a PSA 10!!! Pretty cool! I think you're just gonna get some nice surprises and some crappy ones. If you truly think a card was under graded, might be good content to crack a few duds and send 'em back and see how consistent they are! Can't wait for more reveals, though! You are "The Awesome One"!!!
With the PSA 6 on “The Awesome One,” there’s likely a significant surface issue or scratch that might be seen under close magnification. I’ve seen PSA deduct 5-6 grade points because of scratch or scratches or for any small indentations, dimples, or slight creases/pinches/fraying on edges; if that’s the C-3PO error card you pulled that had the slight softness to bottom right corner and a bit off-center from top to bottom…that’s likely why it ended up at an 8. It’s still a nice 8! I feel the pain overall though. I’ve had many disappointing PSA returns on vintage Star Wars…but it takes time to understand what they deduct for. Hope you get some nice grades on your next return. Thanks for sharing this reveal with everyone.
You’re of course right. The 8’s on the 2 Series 4 cards are understandable. They really are. I was, and am still in a little shock over the 6 on “The Awesome One”. I’m thinking about cracking it, and taking a gooood look… and possibly resubmitting if I don’t see anything… again. Ha!
@@e-dubrippinstuff9820 good idea, curious to know if you find any surface issues on it after putting it under the magnifying glass again. At first glance, it looks a nice card
What a shame! I told my wife when PSA first started grading cards that it was gonna ruin card collecting for kids. Granted that was the junk wax period. It was no longer, "Hey I got this card". It was " How good is it". I do admit I think it helped get high end cards being manufactured.
@@pocketsfullofwax4238 well… it turns out the Sapphire return won’t come until Monday. The one I did get, was the small return containing ESB Series 2 & ROTJ Series 1. I’m hoping to get that posted Monday night/Tuesday morning, then the Sapphire return on Wednesday/Thursday. Are you a big Sapphire guy Pockets full of Wax?
I think it’s all about how they are/were kept. Indoors, out of light, in quality containers… etc. I’m surprised too though sometimes. Crazy how nice some of these boxes can look. I haven’t really noticed the packs looking old 🤔. They look so pretty to me… maybe I’m blinded by the nostalgia of it all. 😬
@@e-dubrippinstuff9820 yea I’m probably just being a skeptic too much ! People knew that Star Wars were very collectible especially by the time of return of Jedi and only more so by the time they re released the special editions so I can for sure see people at that time sealing up entire boxes like that
Shucks man. Now you got me nervous rams going back over the ones I’m going to send. Did that 207 have some small yellow dots on it? I have a few that way wonder if that hurts
Unfortunately, any yellow print ink defects (dots or misting) on the green series cards will 100% effect the grade. PSA deducts for any manufacturing print defects. If it’s minor, it may effect the grade by 1-2 grade points; but if there is a significant amount of yellow ink spots and yellow misting/spray, it can move grade down by 4-5 grade points.
