In this series we will be reading through the Psalms one by one and pointing out cool stuff along the way. The goal is to help get the Psalms into our theological landscape so that they help form our outlook as they have done for God's people for nearly 3,000 years.

This was a perfect reminder for my family and me as we find ourselves in a very difficult chapter of life. Thanks for taking the time to share these studies in the Psalms.

Btw, I agree that these studies are more important (to me) than the study bible vids. Looking forward to the rest of the psalms!!

I know a lot of work went into the video. Thank you so much. I like the Bible reviews because I add them in ebook format if you highly recommend one. But the Bible study videos are more important to me personally because they speak to my heart/mind. (See? I was listening! 😉)

Quick question re: Hebrew grammar/syntax. You mentioned that the we'ani (?) , "and I," is there strictly for emphasis. Since this is psalm/poetry, is there a possibility (if not here, then elsewhere) that the pronoun would be added not so much for emphasis but for rhythm, meter, etc. ? Like when someone will choose a particular English word in a poem simply because it rhymes with the word of the previous line better than another word. Or for assonance or alliteration. Just curious. 🤔

I am not a Hebrew grammarian, so I can't say for sure. But as far as I know it always adds emphasis.

So far, one common theme is these Psalms is, "Where are you God?" and "I will trust in you anyway." It is very interesting that the wording and form of the supplications resemble some of the other religions from that time and place. Others posit many of the concepts in the Hebrew Bible were appropriated from those religions. It sure makes you think. As far as prayers falling on deaf ears, I can't help but think of people praying during a famine, or in a war torn area. Every time I hear a person praising a god for answering prayers, I think of all of the unanswered prayers and the excuse for their gods that people make for those prayers. I also can't help but think of the frivolous prayer offered up by 21st century American Christians. Whose prayer is more valid? A guy in Chicago who wants a new car because his is rusty, or a guy in Gaza, hoping to survive the day?

Do you recommend any resources for Psalms, for those with no knowledge of Hebrew?

Derek Kidner's 2 volumes on the Psalms are great.

Do which book could be good source (english) for the study of psalms from the dead sea scrolls?

I don't know of any, since the DSS are often fragmentary. You'd have to search journal articles for that level of technical study, I imagine.

@@DiscipleDojo Thankyou very much for your reply. There are two dss books I found in Amazon translated in english. There could be more. I just don't know nor do I know which among the two books is better. One is 'The Dead sea scrolls Bible' by Marin G Abegg and the other is ' The Complete Dead Sea scrolls in English' by Dr Geza Vermes. They have many chapters of psalm in them. (including psalm 151 as found in lxx) Let me see if I can find any journal articles on dss psalms as you said. Thnx.
