I spawn 2 of the Under 21”0 stars in PSS.
This video is the execution of a blueprint described by Ethan White ( • Video ), which was only theoretical because he used hacks to have Mario bypass the slide start trigger. However, by copying the strat used by mokkori ( • Video ), I was successfully able to bypass the slide start trigger, thereby fulfilling the blueprint without any hacks. Also thanks to bad_boot ( / @bad_boot ) for decompiling the flag logic.
There's a flag in the game that keeps track of whether we’re currently in the PSS race. This flag gets set to 1 when we start the race, and gets set to 0 when we finish the race. However, there's a bug in the flag logic: If we leave the level mid-race either by falling off the slide or exiting out, then the flag will remain as 1. And so we can start the race to set the flag to 1, leave the level mid-race, re-enter the level, use the flag value to spawn a star, climb back up the slide to set the flag back to 1, then go back down the slide to spawn a second star. Note that this involves building up speed using slide kicks and hyper speed wall kicks to bypass the floor triangles that normally trigger the start of the race. Additionally, we can’t get more than 120 stars using this glitch, and we can only collect one of the 2 stars (specifically, the first one that’s spawned, since its hitbox takes precedence).
