In collaboration with PST LA/LA, we’re celebrating the last 50 years of Latino film culture in Los Angeles. This conversation followed our October 9, 2017, screening of “Born in East L.A.” (1987) at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater.
I was trying to find the full film of “BIELA” on RU-vid and i stumbled on this! This is great stuff! That Latina actress looks better now than she did in the movie. Cheech Marin is a class act.
Excellent interview. BORN IN EAST L.A. still holds up as a very funny movie with a big heart. Too bad Cheech couldn't get any other writing/directing gigs off the ground. Favorite moments: the "waaas sappening" guys, Cheech dead on his feet and falling asleep in what would, in any other movie, be the Big Love Scene, and a thousand immigrants rushing the Border Patrol to the tune of Neil Diamond's "America". Too bad the ending was rushed and cut down so we didn't get the bookend with Jan-Michael Vincent. If you haven't seen the movie, do so.
