PSVR 2 Review - Watch BEFORE You Buy! [Unboxing | Setup | Review]

Got mine yesterday.. Let my 65 yr Old Dad try it. I've never seen him smile so big!! He said "there's a whole new world in your hat!" Lmao.. And that was just Kayaking around a swimming pool!!. It's my first VR experience as well and I never imagined it would be as amazing as it is.. I DEFINITELY RECOMMEND!

I’m rooting for this to succeed to push AAA VR game development. That’s the true crux of whether VR can reach any sort of mainstream ubiquity. There needs to be a few more before I can consider picking up

Just got mine yesterday & played for hours. Feels like a new real to me! Worth it!

Just don’t expect it to be as sharp as your 4K OLED screens (or 4K any screen) and you’ll manage expectations pretty well… it’s a noticeable softness to it.

I have a Valve Index as well as a PSVR2 and while the Index is still the one to beat when it comes to tracking (which is true when comparing most tracking solutions to steam vr tracking) the ease of usage and comfort makes me belive I will be more inclined to use the psvr2. No faffing around in the options to try and find the best settings for a stable fps. Just put it on and play.

No mention of ghosting in GT7 due to reprojection. Also mura is very visible.

Sony must be making a small loss on each headset, to simply push the PS5 more into gamers hands and heads, figuratively speaking.

Just returned mine. I don't know if it was broken but it was way too blurry. Couldn't even read the subtitles.

I got mine yesterday and I was immediately disappointed by the resolution and clarity. I was dumb enough to listen to people bang on about how "crystal clear" it was. I was actually way more impressed with the original PSVR.

It gets blurry, and no, I am not talking about foveated rendering, I am talking about visual fidelity, shades of the first one. Can't say I'm impressed with it at all. Talk about pre-release bias reviews from people who got sent one. No different than the PSVR 1 when you're in a game or on the main menu. Same quality pretty much. I am not joking. The sharpness is not perfect like on your TV. I hope eventually with future technology it will get there. But this isn't it. Nowhere close. You're paying all that money for decent, not for good, and very far from crystal clear and fabulous visuals. Whoever tells you that about the unit is clearly 100% full of it. Chuck it on and see for yourself. I had the feeling of being back on the PSVR 1 the moment I placed it on. Still blurs out when moving from left to right. It's only sharp when you're not moving and are still. What kind of garbage is that? It is exactly like the first one. And how hard is it to add a media player with a 360 video option? Is that rocket science to SONY or what?

Really nice review, earned yourself a sub! It's been a fantastic step up from PSVR 1, which I've used regularly for 6 years. I've had no motion sickness and only a little fatigue so far, it's everything I was hoping for. Just needs proper support from Sony now, if they do it will be a wild ride!

To be honest I am disappointed so far with PSVR 2. The controllers don't sit in my hands as naturally as they do with some. I have fairly large hands. I also don't like that you need to have the lights on. I understand that the cameras need it to work properly but I could have the lights off with the PG PSVR without any issues. Also it feels heavier than the OG PSVR (it could also be the angle I need to place it on my face). It also feels less comfortable. It also sucks that the PS5 doesn't support 3D blu-rays so you won't be able to watch 3D blu-rays through the headset as of today's date Feb 23, 2023. Honestly also feel PlayStation hasn't done enough to make this headset worth it. Many OG PSVR games should work like Rush of Blood among so many others. I just feel that it's an excuse with the different controls or different tracking for the cameras. Just excuses to be frankly honest.

For those worried about feeling nauseous while playing I do want to point out that after you play vr for so long you become used to it, it happens because there are discs in your ears that float in a fluid and touch hairs, the feedback from that sensation tells your brain what way you are moving, but there's a second check that your brain does visually to confirm its accurate, so when you move in vr your brain THINKS it's supposed to be moving but your ears are telling your brain "nah cheif we standing still" this conflict of perspectives is what causes the nausea, after a while your brain manages to ignore those signals in certain situations. Also fun fact for ya, the reason you feel like your still moving after you spin for a bit is because the fluid in your ears is still moving causing the disc to move and thus having your brain think its still moving!

"I wouldn’t play for more than and hour" and later "the controllers only have charge for 4-5 hours". The charging base is mandatory, it should go without saying tbh.

got mine yesterday too. I have a RiftS for PC. its a pain for set up and constant adjustments with cameras. The psvr2 is so simple. everything just works seamlessly. your comparison to apple products is spot on. I played Horizon, and really enjoyed it. I agree that the joystick movement causes more motion sickness feeling versus the funny arm walking movements. overall, super excited to play more. oh, I have Forza 7 to try next :)

Got it, love it. Having come from PSVR on PS4 Pro this is a massive step up if you are in the Sony ecosystem. Looking forward to lots of great PSVR games get ported, but still happy with the ones released on Day 1. I agree with your comment, GT7 with a decent wheel and PSVR2 is really the only way to drive. A full AAA title in VR? More please! 🙂

You actually answered the one thing I wanted to know and that was you can play the reg PS5 games on the PSVR 2 like you could do on the PSVR via the PS4. As I already have the PSVR, i would play my reg games via the PSVR

Screen door effect comes through strong for me. The lenses are not up to par.

Just got mine today. Coming from the quest 1 (didn’t buy Meta2 due to Facebook being Facebook) man it is an upgrade. Horizons intro boat ride is smile inducing. After a while I was getting a bit nauseas and felt hot. Took a break, went back and did the REVIII and whooooo boy that was a bad idea. Never played it before, the mechanics are really cool, but man between the dead bodies and that damned flapping bird I got queasy AF. Definitely smaller sessions. Odd part is I never, not once felt like that with the quest 1. Perhaps the level of immersion is just playing tricks on my system, but that won’t stop me from trying again tomorrow!

Mine Just came in 🔥 now charge the controllers and play tonight. 🥳

Only mistake I made was buying a digital ps5, games are too expensive

My first VR XP and it didn't disappoint! Was blown away by horizon but also super impressed how physical each game I've tried so far is. Like RE village needing to do a full proper reload (can obvs change that in settings) but the fact that's the same across the board is insane and lived up to my expectations

Having used the Index for a few hundred hours I can confidently say the PSVR2 is the first bit of VR kit that seems worthy to replace it. I’ve loved every moment so far and I’ve considered selling my Index but then I’d lose Google Earth VR and that’s worth it alone to keep.

Take a few minutes to perfectly calibrate to eliminate slight blur due to position. Especially the tilt of the headset, so back band is snug on the back of skull and eye proximity is perfect and level for your IPD and tracking. When you find the clear image sweet spot for yourself, text will be sharp for example. After that, you'll always find it again and it will feel routine to calibrate it dead on, and stay comfortable for hours.

Who else is watching psvr2 reviews while trying to saving for one as fast as possible? 😂

I guess one positive I can think of in regards to driving games with VR is that you don't need to move a desk in front of your TV. You just need the USB cable to be able to reach to where your desk is so you can use the wheel since you don't actally need to be able to see your TV.

I got it yesterday and felt really sick on Horizon and Star Wars within 10 minutes. Hoping I can get over it, if not it’s an expensive mistake :(

Sony listen, BRING PC SUPPORT and i will buy it instantly. Ps5 just will not have enough games

I'm kind of whelmed ngl. It's just not that good if you've dipped in pc vr before. The recordings of gameplay look better than the real thing but still amazing for those new to vr.

My only real complaint with it is the sense controllers are awkward and the face gasket gets sweaty easily. But beside that the visual quality is amazing. Looking at the mountains In horizon was insanely beautiful.

The PSVR2 has blown my mind so far. Especially games like Moss 1/2. It's funny because a few weeks ago I saw the Sony email asking me to preorder and laughed it off like, cmon no one plays this shit. Just keep the games coming and the hardware will sell.

I got so sick from the running and climbing in Horizon. Huge bummer for me. Never had any issues with VR so far even the first HTC Vive was fine. But now the game which should showcase the whole PSVR 2 experience is already such a let down. With this experience, I really wonder if it this technology will ever make it to main stream. Was feeling dizzy the whole evening afterwards.

Pikced up one up yesterday, Horizon is awesome and was super immersive, RE-V is a blast as well. The only thing that gets me is the decent games are pretty expensive for what they are.

I am waiting for pc compatibility on this. This way I can play on ps5 and my pc.

This is my first VR experience, expectations were high, a bit disappointed I have to say, screen full of those little shiny specs, is that what you call mura effect? Its still fun though, im on the fence whether to return it, also because I feel sick especially if I am standing while playing but my son wants to keep it so it stays, seems he is immune to motion sickness...hopefully it will get better. So far I only tried GT7, RE demo and that free Cactus shooter (this thing make me go vommit lol). One advice for adjusting the headband - first adjust front part that goes on the eyes, when it fits nicely on your eyes then tighten the headband, i found missleading in setup that you have to put back part of the headband so low on the head, mine is set much higher on the head because it keeps slipping up if it is low and I cant adjust eyes very well then.

For horizon it’s easier to just let your hands drop to your side like they normally do and just swing from there to walk. It feels more natural and you don’t get tired of having your arms up.

I was so excited for this device but the image quality is so bad, super blurry ( yes I did all physical and software adjustments). Many users are having this feedback. Either quality is like that and I m just spoiled of using the Quest Pro or maybe many got defective units? Damn

The screen door effect is very bad for me on this headset. The headset also has bad god rays that make reading text on high contrast background difficult. The headset creates a lot of sweat. The pass through node has two issues: the image is very blurry, you can't do objects that require fine skills picking up your phone and sending a text, you'll have to take your headset off to use your phone and secondly the ass through has poor depth tracking, so everything looks smaller than it is and everything looks like it's floating above the ground and this made be very nauseous

I played a few hours with mine yesterday. I only have a couple of nitpick complaints. 1. There is an obvious screen door effect due to the OLED panel. It's not super obtrusive and is easy to block out while playing. But it's definitely there, which is something that other headsets don't have as big a problem with. This does hurt the overall image quality, in my opinion. But it's the price to pay for OLED, which otherwise looks far better than other screens. 2. Short controller battery life. I don't know why Sony is on a mission to create the worst battery life ever in a controller. Either put in a bigger battery or let us use AAs Sony, please. 3. There's not a big game library right now. And the future is a question mark. We can only hope it's supported well going forward. That's all. I think it's a great headset. And I've been enjoying the couple games that interest me. Playing some larger titles like No Mans Sky, Horizon, and GT7 in a good VR is great. As well as ports from Quest, which is a much better experience on PS. I just hope they keep the ports and new games rolling in fast.

Once you said "there's no flying through the world in Google Earth" I left the psvr2 in my cart and closed my browser. I can wait until the psvr2 library (mainly exclusives) builds up more titles and at least see what the upcoming Quest 3 will offer in comparison before I purchase another VR system.

Feel like I got burnt on buying the first one. $600 for something that wasn’t that immersive and didn’t have a lot of quality games. I’m not going to waste money on this one.

Meta Quest Pro does not count as a gaming headset. I would still say the quest 2 is the competitor to the psvr2 and not the Quest Pro.

I know it seems like a bargain compared to other high-end VR headsets but if you look at this in conjunction with the PS5 itself, it seems really expensive. If Sony would have got this at the 200£ price tag, history would have repeated ... with all of us standing in virtual queues and following a zillion twitter notifications just to get our hands on one! Sadly, that's not the case and Sony is currently shipping them in 2 working days.. if you choose express!!

ugh just bought it. I have zero interest in VR in general but I'm a huge Gran Turismo fan, already have the PS5 and a TS300 wheel, race on a daily basis so I basically got it just for GT7. it's pretty expensive and I never tried VR before so I'm afraid of motion sickness. If it gets me sick I think I'm going to return it before the 30 days.

"Review sample", that's what I thought. By the number of people, myself included, complaining about the screen-door effect on r/psvr, SDE is most definitely not almost gone. (No, I'm not talking about mura, but that's also another problem with PSVR2.) SDE is ranging from apparent to blatantly apparent depending on the game and the area in the game. Looking at faces in Horizon: Call of the Mountain, it is unmissable and there is absolutely no "looking past it". Sony sent you a cherry-picked review sample.

can't believe so many people bought this thing in week one. there are literally no new great games for the psvr 2. I played both Horizon games which are like 1000 times better to play in 3rd person and with a gamepad. Also I played RE8 when it came out. pwhy should i play it again with that quirky VR controllers? The battery life of the controllers IS A JOKE!! Charging every 3 hours would be so damn ANNOYING for me. I hope they will release a better version in the future. Perhaps i will buy it on ebay after the ps6 was released. but only if the price drops to 200 Euros or lower. I did the same with the PSVR1 which i still use sometimes. i bought every good game for around 5 Euros on ebay each and i still have to play Iron man VR, Robinsons Journey and Sairento.

The PSVR 2 is hands down the best gaming experience I've ever bought. So much fun. People be complaining too much about this thing. It's one of if not the best VR headset available ATM.

The picture is soapy, PICO 4 is many times better and premium. The PSVR2 was terrified by the lack of built-in speakers and automatic interpupillary distance correction, as well as autonomous operation (without cable), yes, let such money keep them, their price is a maximum of $299. Both headsets are on hand, personal experience voiced!) If you haven’t compared both headsets, it doesn’t make sense to write that the picture is not soapy here)

i was going to order this...but for me i love 3d movies - you can still buy a lot of movies in 3d...so it's extremely annoying that sony have decided not to include this with the ps5 and psvr 2. It would be nice if they had full support for VR environments to watch netflix, prime, etc - sometimes it's nice to watch a movie on a massive cinema screen. For the price though - it needs a detachable cable for safety and easy repair...the rubber mask needs to be replaceable for easy cleaning or sharing...the controllers should last far longer...it also should have hand tracking, dedicated volume controls, built in speakers so you can play and still be aware of those around you -- it just feels theyve added some nice things such as eye tracking etc BUT skimped out on things that should be standard as a wired headset, it should be £399. i'll be waiting for more games to come out...the meta quest offers a fairly similar experience for less and a bigger game library...plus VR environments and 3D movie support. psvr2 is still playing catch up

PSVR2 is great, my only complaint is the huge mura effect that seems to be everywhere

Been waiting a looong time to upgrade from my oculus rift, i will wait till end of the year to see what comes for pc, not willing to have two vr headsets or give up my pc library even i have a ps5.

Ill wait til i get a used 1 cheap then buy it i have psvr 1 i barely play it i still have over 30+ games some unplayed yet. That way they have a bigger library by then. Re8 and gt7 will be cool to play on it. No real games are released yet.

I want to buy PSVR2 today, but I went to GameStop, Walmart, Best Buy, Amazon, Walmart online they said there was no PSVR2 after day release date. That doesn’t make sense. Please tell me where I buy PSVR2? I am pissed off.. I just don’t understand PSVR2 won’t sale in them
