So, basically the difference between Salamander 1 and Life Force are the graphics and some enemy sprites, besides the weapon select system. I'm used to the NES game and it seems like a mix of SL and LF elements. Great series!
Yes. Salamander was more space like while Life Force was more of a "what if a movie like Fantastic Voyage were a video game" due to the organic graphics
@ValisHD Yes, the option called "Wait Control" can be set to "Off" to remove the slowdown that was present in the original arcade version (and has been faithfully re-created in the PS1/Saturn ports). Give it a try.
The major difference between Salamander and Life Force are the design aesthetics. Salamander offered upgrades as drops, Life Force had the powerbar system a la Gradius. Salamander had area thematics, Life Force had areas named after parts inside a gigantic biomechanical defender. The NES Life Force had a very different look, and borrows elements from both (area thematics ala Salamander and Gradius powerbar a la Arcade Life Force), the only major difference is that there are no "buffer areas" from the Arcade version. Area 4 in Salamander was placed in Area 2 of Lifeforce NES; Areas 4 and 5 are completely new, and the Gradius throwback bosses are put in Area 5, instead of Area 6.
Subseries perhaps, but overall, not even close. Gradius 3 arcade and Gradius 4 arcade can make your life, very, very miserable trying to beat them, especially 4 in later loops, where it is said to be harder than 3 in later loops.
I've never beat salamander....the final eye supports would never die but I didnt have the missiles. The 4th end boss with 3 blue balls would always stay covered for ages too making it impossible to avoid all the masses of flying blue balls. Die there and your finished on the next level. I wonder if the difficulty was set on ultra on the machine. Still one of my favourite games though. Salamander 2 is just ridiculous.
Cool, I had the Saturn version of this. Shame you didn't turn off the slowdown (Wait Control), that was the best thing about these ports (Gradius Deluxe as well).
i watched the first 3 levels of salamander 2...how the heck did you manage not to get touched a single time at the hardest setting??? did you put some sort of mod on the game???
@XanthinZarda More or less. More Lifeforce was more inside the bioplanet. Hence why everything is more organic. Same game, just rather then random power ups it had the more common gradius power-up system
47:19 a final boss... in a gradius/salamander game... which is not a pushover... FINALY A FINAL BOSS IN A GRADIUS/SALAMANDER GAME WHICH IS A ACTUAL FINAL BOSS!!!!!
about the salamander 2 last boss. To avoid such amount of bullets you simply need to avoid the shots if you fire the bullets they explode and spread more bullets.
So, let me get this right; Salamander I and Life Force were in essence, the same game? As for Salamander II, was it released for the ill fated 32-bit era?
I wonder if the pilot and the star fighter had to be shrunk down first before the mission? Also, can you imagine another plane being used to defeat Zelos Force? (imagines maybe an F-16, a Mig-23 or 27 Flogger or even an F-2 being used to defeat the evil. Or what about an F-15 Eagle?)
Hmm why I do keep liking the nes Boss theme more better ? Even though I like the synthesizer drum in this one when the song loops but it feels so weak..... X_X
Um.. It just dawned on me, that in Lifeforce... The order of the zones means your entry point was.... Eww. Ad here i always thought the expression "You got your brains in your rear' was just one of those things....
Guys, I can't find a video game that I have been looking for for more than 17 years. Please help me out. I vaguely remember some details but other details i know for sure (i'll specify on the list below) - 2d top down shoot em up. - Played it on Playstation 1 (i don't know if it was ported or was a port). - (not sure) Japanese (or japanese influenced) game. - (not sure) Sprite based. - The distinguishing feature of the game is that you have different kinds of bullets that you acquire throughout the game. You can switch between them on the fly. Every bullit kind has a powered up version except the starter bullet type. And at some point of the game (and that blew my mind at the time) you actually acquire the powered up version of the starter bullet type. - (not sure) Each boss is weak to the powered up version of each bullet type. PLEASE HELP ME FIND THIS!!!
@@Over_Sky Harmful Park isn't a top down vertical shooter, it was a side scrolling horizontal shooter, and had humor like Parodius, essentially a cute em up, like Parodius.
Life Force arcade came before the NES version, so the NES version didn't stick true to it's arcade roots. It is a cross of Life Force and Salamander arcade games.
