I lived on communist Eastern Europe at this time. This kind of music was evocative of the times. I would lie in bed early in the AM and listen to cassette tapes of the Psychedelic Furs explaining the world to me.
The beautiful melancholy scene you describe, paired with Sister Europe, should find their way into a movie someday soon. Very moving moment. Thank you.
I had the hots for him for years...my late partner was his double it's really weird watching this, we saw them in Scotland on this tour. I have photos of Mike (my partner) and you'd think it was RB miss him so much♡
I don't have any attraction for men, but... he's really very handsome, and he has a lot of class and distinction. And that voice! And that gift for melody... A great guy.
Just a little... ah ah! Ho appena visto un documentario sulla discoteca rock-new wave in cui andavo a vent'anni, il Suburbia di Perugia. Emozioni cavalcanti in me.
Funny you should say that. Bowie was a big fan of Richard and there are a few pics of them together at gigs over the years. As for him sounding like Bowie, I’d have to strongly disagree. Lots of singers have been compared to Bowie, whether fairly or not but Butler Rep has such an original and distinctive voice that he shouldn’t be compared to anyone.
It is not a crazy thing. On one occasion Bowie praised the voice of Richard Butler and said: I wish I had his voice. I suppose it would be a form of compliment, because D. Bowie has a unique voice and he knew it perfectly.
I haven't seen them since about 83 but I've seen the odd clip of recent gigs. It wasn't just the music was it, it was the energy or the zeitgeist of the era. It's gone now, there's a new spirit of a new age and its not one I want any part of. Richard Butler was singing about now however now he's singing about then.
