Simple solution put every one in single cells 24 hrs a day,take the food to there cells don’t let them have any contact with other prisoners even take them for shower one at a time, and even visits certain hours of certain days alone with no other prisoners, do this then there no problems no gangs no drug dealing no violence, total isolation

I’ve been around prison life when I used to visit my mom’s ex boyfriend in jail. Trust me, the people I seen there coming out to visit their families scared me. I was like 7 at the time.

Prison isn't about treatment or rehabilitation, it's where we put people so we don't have to see them again.

I feel like isolation is better than normal prison life. The other prisoners can’t hurt you there.

While more mentally ill people being in prison doesn't necessarily indicate discrimination (some groups commit more crime than others) the facts you've listed are true; they do get bullied by both prisoners & staff. It's a sad conundrum & we need more mental health facilities for these mental ill people who commit non violent crimes.

Yet no one ever mentions the pay to stay policy in US prisons! I'm possible related to a family who keep a "slush fund" in case a member is sentenced and needs a private cell. Depending on the crime your "private" cell can come with hot/cold in cell showers and comfortable cot. The highest level does cost around $250/day.

You forgot to mention hat Ousuna guy not only Beheaded the cell mate but ripped his lungs out and fashioned a necklace out of the lungs he was caught with the necklace on when they discovered the scene I read there are photos of the scene as officers discovered the horror show and they said the cell was covered in pictographs scrolled in blood and the headless cell mate was displayed in a weird position so it resembled something out of a horror movie

Solitary confinement for everyone and give food through a hole in the wall. They can write notes to the gaurds what they want. Books; paper, pencils, and give them a single secured window so they can see the sun and clouds. Put up some paintings on the walls and give a good bed.

As a young guy (20) who has EUPD and a psychotic episode in the past. Horrible things have happened to me in the past and especially while psychotic I did some terrible things, the best thing you can do for someone in that situation is either avoid or commit to support them

I think everyone being sentenced for a crime they did should have a proper mental health assessment (including brain scans) so that they can be rightly put in a mental hospital or a prison because yeah for most people prison will aggravate already existing mental illnesses

In the US, if someone is trying to get you in their cell, 90% of the time you better strap up (put your sneakers on), and be READY to throw them hands!!! Seen ALOT of guys get SURPRISED BIGTIME. I suggest throwing first, ESPECIALLY if you CAN'T fight, and like Patrick Swayze said in Roadhouse, "doesn't matter how BIG they are, if they can't see, can't breathe, or can't stand, THEY CAN'T FIGHT!" Hitting the insides of the legs over the main artery is an excellent striking point too! In the case of the young guy being killed....the guy had shouted for most of the day saying they needed to get the asian biy out-of his cell otherwise he would be dead by morning....he was tipped over the edge knowing that the teen was gonna be free whilenhe was a lifer......everyone could hear his warnings ⚠️ the guards chose to ignore him and come morning the teen was killed. I know someone who was there at the time an corroborates this account.

I think it's terrible that they put mentally ill people behind bars with psychotic people, instead of giving them the treatment they need. They should also be trying to give the psychotic prisoners some treatment as well. I've heard listening to music helps.

I remember the story about that kid getting put in same cell as a racist. That should never have happened as the prison has legal care and attention over the prison population. As in, seperate gang members and also racists and non whites. Shame that kid died over incompetence.
