(Pt.1) Low buck build, B-52” spring swap. Relocating front spring hangers.

We start our low buck build on “DECAY” our 1973 Chevy Cheyenne K-20. We’re starting with relocating the front hangers. Removing them and swapping them side to side to allow for longer 52” springs. By reusing these parts we will save hundreds of dollars. This is something that most people can do from home. Use jack stands or something like that. I thought the mod, was to move the leaf spring hanger in the front, up by two holes, so you gain about 2” and can use 52’s with a new shackle. I didn’t realize you could move the core support part of it and almost do a reverse shackle flip 🤔 I’m about to do this on my 75 k10 I think I’ll try the way I mentioned. That nut stresses me out, all of your weight from the vehicle would be on that during a stop when inertia shifts.

Hi there. There are many different ways of doing this. I understand what you’re saying and I definitely considered doing this differently myself. Actually if that front bolt was tightened first it might actually pull up tight. However the reality of all this is, none of these brackets should be moving under any circumstances. There are some really nice front relocation brackets available out there. Either way my friend, I wish you the best

@@Farm10customs amen, I hope I didn’t come off as judgy, wasn’t my intention. I looked for those front hangers diy 4x made, no one else makes them! Do you have an idea of where to look?

@Dusto-qz1hz It’s cool. Check out “Off road design, Hogback fab, and Tinworks. These are a few that I know of. There are some kits available with multiple different front spring main-eye location options. Good luck with your project my friend

I can honestly say I didn’t think about swapping the them from one side to the other. I was just planning on getting a aftermarket set. I already done the rear of the truck with hanger swaps. Like you said the rivets are not bad to do just take your time.

I think if it’s in the budget the after market brackets would be a better way to go. It seems like you get a lot more options for mounting the front spring and more front spring options. I’ve been building this as a low buck build just for fun. And it’s actually been a hoot. Enjoy your build and see ya on the trail…..

Just found your channel. I like what your building. You have me interested in the 52” swap for my K10. I recall you saying this was your trail rig, do you notice any difference in ride quality, softer ride?

So far I haven’t had it out other than a couple of little shake down runs, but it definitely is a smoother and softer ride. It doesn’t seem to be as tipsy as I thought it would be but I also haven’t done any high speed highway driving. I have a few more upgrades that I’m doing before I can really get it out and enjoy the fun. Stay tuned. Thanks again for watching
