(Pt.1)Should you carry a gun for safety in grizzly bear country?  

I live in Alaska and regularly hike in the mountains. I always carry both Bear Spray and a firearm. For most encounters the spray is very effective. It’s a great deterrent for bears getting a little too curious. You should always have a firearm for the small percentage of cases that it doesn’t work though.

Carry both. While hiking my wife carried bear spray and me a firearm. Always good to have options

I carry both. Bears here in the Pacific Northwest are not a problem for the most part. It’s the cats you gotta worry about.

Carry both, but understand bear spray statistically stops bears and animals more than firearms. Once you use your firearm and any animal is injured they will see it as life or death and usually attack once it gets to that point

I vote for carrying both.

Bear spray, then gun, then run.... if the first two fail you might as well attempt the 3rd. Or turn that gun around before its to late, something tells me the bear isnt going to exactly make it "quick" if its been sprayed and shot numerous times and still coming for you.

Alot of the people who say you should have a gun over spray has never experienced how fast a griz or a brown bear can cover ground. I was blown away my first time being charged i was running back up for someone on Kodiak. The spray works like wall of hell start head high and spray a wall left to right and work your way towards the ground as you step backwards. That being said its man made and we all know man made can and will fail you.

Use the spray if your not down wind Would argue the spray could cause more problems than good for the same reason you dont train to use spray like ever

I practice enough with my handguns to know that if I go out fishing at “the spot” and a boat rushes me I’m gonna get gored lmao. Lookin to fix that this month but 🤷🏻‍♂️ I reckon the boar will beat me to it.

Yeah guns aren’t very well against bears they can take a lot so bear spray will be the first line of defense
