No. He just does not want to become a cheerleader for the street life. I'm not saying that that's what Damon is doing but it's very easy to misconstrue his legend for advocacy for the street life. Mecca wants to let the youth especially know that there's nothing wrong with being a square. Being squared doesn't mean that you can't be down with hip hop and that you can't be cool it just means that you can avoid trouble and problems and progress.

I think your forced to think like this at an early age. My mom passed away when I was 12yo. I moved from New York to Florida to live with my Grandmother.... My Grandmother passed away when I was 15.... My Uncle (Grandmother's son) started abusing me and my brothers and making us sleep outside in the backyard.... we use to steal hygiene products from Walmart and stash them in the yard. We woke up early to bathe with a water hose for school. We had like 3 outfits. We mostly just wore plain t-shirts. We went to school mainly to eat. It made us think of a way out. While other kids were having meaningless conversations we were trying to figure out how to get us some money. I have a fraternal twin brother and a brother 1 year younger than me (14 months). When we turned 16 yo we found out we could get emancipated since we ha had no parents. We wanted to get Identification cards and our social security cards so we can get a job. We had to steal our mail. We had no choice but to be driven. We all had got jobs but they were part time jobs. We ended up hustling just so we can flip our money saved and get a car. We started understanding finances early on. We bought a car. We soon after was able to move in an apartment. The way we moved was different which made more of our peers start to gravitate towards us. We ended up building a team..... we made alot of money... and we all are homeowners. I'm 31 years old now. Not having any parents makes you more ambitious and driven.

My crew was the same we where 17 18 moving mad weight peiced out at the street level. GS 300 with 5 tvs ps2 in the glove box . 300zx show cars navigators Honda crx fully kitted the fuck out. 2000s shit. @BKthoroughbred it is honorable to get a 9 to 5 and keep it and take care of your family. But honorable is different than saying more than okay. It is only okay, meaning average, to work a 9 to 5. You allow all of your future in the hands of another entity. You and I both know this, this is why we have our own business(es). People need to know the reality to make the best choices for them. But I don't ever want people to be okay with settling and thinking that is more than okay to do so. This system will have people stuck, feed them crumbs, and make them say thank you every two weeks. This is also the same sentiment for some business owners, as well. There are business owners, like a mom and pop restaurant owner, who feel like they have to be there everyday and slave -just like a 9 to 5. The concept in itself is punishment. I don't think people should want to live a life everyday and accept punishment. That average living and thinking is a living hell and a constant reminder of that hell. And now they are talking about raising the retirement age. They love watching people suffer. I don't. Especially not my Black brothas and sistas.
