As someone who also constantly embarks on complex builds I have no experience with ill just say this. The excitement in your voice when you finally got to try them on was genuinely contagious and is exactly what these projects are all about. Phenomenal work and thank you so much for this entire series :). Cheers
Harry, superb work! I am very pleased that they fit. Plus, they look fantastic! Very very nice! Thanks for filming your efforts. I've learned a lot from you various posts.
Watching as I sit here, standing my 1st above the knee boot forms. . Awesomely great job ! I have greatly enjoyed this series, thank you for sharing your journey .
OLD LEATHER SMITH here, I think you did A GREAT JOB HARRY, I since I make moccasins I use a soft last and it's made in side out, turning them is as difficult as you had with your last, but I have found a way 2 make it some what easier. Great job again, GOD'S BLESSINGS ✝️⚾🙃
Brilliant Harry, I was actually holding my breath when you struggled with the lasts, your cheerful enthusiasm, get it right or wrong, have a go attitude is a joy to watch, along with the skill you have for all things practical, is educational & you now have a decent good looking pair of shoes. A big thank you for something engrossing to watch. Pat yourself on the back for daring to have a go & fulfilling an ambition.
Well Harry, those shoes kept us all in suspense, but in the end they rewarded the you for the thorough research and preparation, careful thought and accurate work that you invested in the project. Thank you for sharing your fascinating journey into the craft of traditional shoemaking in your own entertaining style. You are an inspiration.
Dear Harry, great work and you did a wonderful pair of shoes. Thank you for your detailed explanations, and thank you for your knowledge that you share with us. You gave me courage to keep going. My shoe is still in the shoe last and I will put on a helmet when removing the shoe last for safety. Warm greetings from Germany
A really interesting project, congratulations on the fimished product. Thanks for sharing your experience with us all and remember a man who never made a mistake never made anything!😉👏👏👏! Back to some green woodworking now?
Hi Harry! As a saddle maker I have always wanted to make a pair of boots. After watching your series...I’m over that dream! So enjoyed the whole journey. You are lots of fun and I appreciate your sharing. So Merry Christmas and I pray a happy new year.
I think you did a great job for a first attempt, It was a learning curve, and they look great, thanks for sharing the journey with us, I’m looking forward to see what you do next 👍
What an achievement -- well done, Harry! And thanks for sharing your shoemaking adventure with all of us. You mentioned your next video -- may I suggest a brief biography? I know it's not your normal thing, but for the viewing public (as it were) it's always very interesting to hear about the background of creative people, and their various formative influences. Thanks again for all these excellent videos!
Wow Harry this is incredible! I've been impatiently watching every one of these shoe videos and have to say the results are truly stunning considering that you had no outside help. Absolutely amazing. Using comercial last is probably the way to go for the future pairs. But nonetheless congratulations!
Well done Harry, I’m glad the shoes are a nice fit, they also look smart. I have enjoyed every episode in this series and learned a lot too. Thank you for sharing, please film an update in a few weeks, when you have broke the shoes in. Thank you, take care, regards, Chris.
Top series Harry ! And it was possible to share some of your pleasure when the shoes went on, always the result when we see a chap jumping in at the deep end and succeeding. A trick known to the movie industry probably from soon after Edison ripped off those French guys. I can remember looking into the mechanics or techniques of shoemaking back in the early 90's, so pre internet, and it was akin to some sort of grail quest, with information being closely guarded, or impossible to find. It seems somewhat ironic that with the internet and YT as it is now, the whole subject is virtually an open book, and yet the time when properly made, and repairable shoes were the norm is fast fading, overwhelmed by cheaply made and disposable footwear.
Very happy how that turned out in the end :) Mid way through the series i did observe your lasts separate differently from others, i thought it would cause difficulties when removing the workpiece. Still happy for you on that build :)
This was an amazing end to the series. I'm so happy I got to watch it in realtime and see you actually try them on the first time. What a great project!
I thoroughly enjoyed your Shoe Making series, but didn't see the last few... Your 'Kick's' look absolutely splendid, so happy to hear they fit nicely. I took a sneaker making course in Holland and now wear my own handmade shoes, thanks to you. Hope this finds you in good health Harry, all my best
I bought a pair of used lasts form somewhere, and then added a bit of leather to them for a closer match to my feet, and have been using them on a pair of well fitting motorcycle shoes. I had stretched the shoes from wearing them in rain a few times and often walking some ditence in them, and when the lasts would go in and pretty much fill them perfectly I was about as chuffed as you were. I've not attempted to make my own, yet, but I did use them to slightly reshape a pair of Doc's I've had since the 90's for a resole, and I've been working on resoling those old motorcycle shoes. Congrats on getting a good fit.
Many thanks for sharing your shoe making journey, especially the little historical insights into traditional tools and techniques. I've very much enjoyed this series, and one day may well attempt to make a pair myself. Best wishes.
Beautifully well done Mr. Rogers! I binge-watched the series over the past few days and you've inspired me to give it a try. I've only gotten started in leatherwork recently due to the outbreak, but will definitely work my way up to this level. Bravo!
Cracking video's Harry, Well Done You. I always say learn by your mistakes & I do plenty of them......LoL Keep the video's coming there an inspiration, Stay Safe
I haven't yet seen the complete series Harry and I was a bit unsure of the shape of the toe in the last few but they look extremely good with jeans and are somewhat reminiscent of 1930 boxing boot minus of course the ankle rise. Look forward to watching the rest.
Really well done. I'm very impressed with your skill. It was good to see your surprise at the final fit. I'm beginning with leather work, and at the stage where if something stays together I'm between happiness and surprise. So to see a master with that same response gives me courage. Your videos are an inspiration. Keep doing what your doing.
Hello Harry! This was a terrific series. I hope you have more series in store for us. I have re-watched all of the episodes on making your own shoes several times each so far. Your attention detail is greatly appreciated. Thank You!
Well done! Delighted to see you so pleased, and surprised about the fit. The fit and finish reflect the time, energy and skill you put into the project. Well done Harry and Thank-you so much for sharing your journey with us x.
