I also took advantage of that recent SRS Cinema horror movie sale. However, since I live in Canada, the shipping was a bit pricey (higher than the combined cost of the movies I ordered) and ironically, on average, I can order about 50% more Kino Lorber movies for nearly half the shipping cost compared to SRS Video, but the sale certainly made sense for anyone in the U.S. Having said that, I still got some better deals thanks to the sale compared to SRS Cinema movie prices on Amazon and I ordered nine titles with cool covers and given the straight-to-video quality of most of these movies, the main reason to buy these titles is for the cover art and now and then, one might see a great practical effect which is impressive for an extremely low budget movie. The titles I ordered were: - 'Sand World' (a 'Dune' ripoff, I assume, but some of the production designs and effects looked pretty cool). - 'My Fair Zombie'/'Spyfall' as spoofs of 'My Fair Lady' (but with a zombie) and the James Bond movie 'Skyfall'. The trailers seemed to show the humour of these movies. - 'House on Cuckoo Lane' (looked like an atmospheric haunting type of movie). - 'Raiders of the Lost Shark' (I was sold by the title alone. Haha!). - 'Blood Cove' & 'Blood Cove 2: Return of the Skull' (seemed like a 'Friday the 13th' or other kind of lost-in-the-woods kind of movie. - 'Night Feeder' (an alien horror type of movie and the box art reminded me of 'Breeders' released by Full Moon Entertainment). - 'Necrologies' (starring Linnea Quigley (but probably just a cameo) and it had some creepy monastery vibes and I think it is a horror anthology with different horror tales). - 'Dead Life: Wormwood's End' (The trailer made an impression on me). - 'Dawn of the Animals' (a horror anthology with three (or four) animal horror movies which I don't normally like, but one of the stories featured piranha released in a pond or lake, so I thought it had potential as a low budget 'Piranha' ripoff with some cheesy, but fun effects). As I said, the box art (most likely AI-generated art due to the limited budgets of these movies) really sells these titles and they look great displayed on a shelf, but these movies are not masterpieces by any stretch of the imagination. :)

I like it. Have you ever heard of Network (1976) or it's iconic quote "I'm as mad as hell and I'm not gonna take this anymore!"? You can get the Arrow Blu-ray and you will be left speechless after watching it.

'Network' (1976) is iconic. It's really great with Faye Dunaway, William Holden, and Peter Finch (Finch posthumously won an Oscar for his performance) and it pretty much predicted the future of television in terms of its growing absurdities, reality shows, and creating garbage on TV purely for high network ratings, etc. :)

I thought you had a lot of SRS movies and now you do a second part. I don't know any of these ones they're a mystery to me. But if it was based solely on artwork I'll buy them all. Awesome collection good showing and cool video Todd!👉🏼🙂👈

I couldn’t resist the sale. The prices were very low. It’s easy to gamble on movies if they’re only a couple bucks.

SRS Cinema box art is pretty cool to sell those low budget horror or sci-fi movies and in a way, SRS Cinema straight-to-video movies could inspire a group of buddies or young film students to create their own stories and shoot them with a video camera or smartphone for some fun cheesy goodness. :)

This is what I like about the Polonia brothers movies. They were sort of pioneers of the SOV movies and started out at very young ages with low quality cameras. Their movies will never be blockbuster status, but they are fun just the same.

10:52 Yeah, I'm not really a gore hound either, Todd. I'm more into atmospherics or psychological horror or moods created by the shooting locations. The scariness is more important than the gore, but in cases where the gore propels the story (like in the 'Alien' franchise or John Carpenter's 'The Thing', etc.), then that's fine, but like you, I'm not into gore purely for gore's sake. The story is what counts and some compelling characters and I certainly appreciate practical effects being used as much as possible over CGI effects.

I feel the same. Give me a good story and atmosphere and I can even overlook poor acting. The extreme gore movies are popular in certain circles, but it’s just not my thing.

Do boutique DVDs/Blu-rays also have cool menus like back in the day?
@TorontoJon
@TorontoJon 2 месяца назад
Higher end boutique DVD/Blu-ray distributors have cool menus on the discs with trailers, interviews, movie commentaries, TV and radio spots, production stills, etc. but it all depends on the movie being released as some are bare bones releases, but some of the best boutique companies are: - Shout! Factory/Scream Factory - Arrow Video - Kino Lorber - Synapse - Code Red - Blue Underground - Full Moon Entertainment (not exactly high-end, but there are some VHS re-releases, DVDs, Blu-rays, t-shirts, soundtracks, sculpted figures, posters, and other merchandise there for sale).
