The great maestro delivering a lyrical piece in Nat Bhairav for the BBC in 1984. He also gives an insightful interview. Pt. Anindo Chatterjee plays tabla
His voice is as sweet as his playing... His playing is totally different from other musicians from his gharana...!! Not only me but I think many of Indian Classical Music listeners absolutely love his playing!!! This video, in particular, is absolutely gold mines for all Indian Classican musicians...!!
This is a very well structured interview, with revealing questions from the interviewer. It is so good to hear Panditji's voice, both literally and on the sitar. Thanks for posting this, Josh.
There is no shortcut, practice and only dedicated practice can make a great of a legend.🙏🙏🙏. Pronaam late. pandit ji🙏🙏❤️ And ofcourse the blessings of Guru and goddesses Saraswati ♥️❤️♥️
I think Pt. Nikhil Banerjee's sound is more deep to heart when compared to Pt. Ravishankar; and this is most probably because Ma Annapurna Devi taught him and her students in a more complete way, which I feel Pt. Ravishankar deviated or missed it. #
Having listened to panditji live I may be in the enviable generation you mentioned. However, things remain same, in essence, through generations. If one is aspiring to be artist in panditji's class the road is as difficult as it was in his days. For an amateur, though, things have vastly improved with all these recordings available. In my young days I might have listened to few live performances of these masters but with RU-vid accessible music has grown tens of folds. Just as we notice only very tall trees nearby we think often of the great maestros we no doubt miss. But I am sure there are budding musicians today which can take one high enough that one can learn from the masters of past. So cheer up, you have access to the best of both generations. Best wishes!
