This is my grandfather..I’m very proud because of his struggles I live in America and didn’t have to go thru the same hardships..this is something I can show to my kids one day thank you 🙏
He reminds me of my dad (born in Point Hill, St Catherine, Jamaica) who is now 85yrs and so far still going strong. He also left school at 12 yrs old as his own father died and he had to help out his mother farm the land...... Long story short he left Jamaica in 1961 for England..... If you are like me and still have your parents, make sure you ask them about their lives and what they have been through....... Glad i have and continue to do so..... BIG RESPECT for the old-time Jamaicans = TALLOWAH people!!!!!
This interview should be also on the news. Present day young people especially the ones who think that everyone had things handed to them. We have come a long way in life by sacrifice and common sense. As u listen to this man even though he was not educated he had commonsense and was and is still smart. There are many more like him in Jamaica who start from nothing but learn how to make life honestly and turn out educated children.. Some of the young parents need to instill the value of hardwork vs encouraging criminality in their children. These modern day criminals don't know the hard life many encountered and not to mention the HELL many goes through living abroad.That's y many of us wish to return home to enjoy our country after facing all sort of ism abroad and not to be targeted and killed. Nice to hear his honesty that he regretted not staying in school. These young people need to know the power of education and honest living. Sure his children are proud of him the way many of us r of our hardworking parents. I am proud of him also that he took care of his children and wasn't an absent father. Lots to learn from him.
I grew up listening to these stories from my Dad. May God continues to wax his bones strong, keep his mind sharp, and his vision intact so he can continue for the rest of his days to see, and know how blessed his life is. He always taught us that “when you do good - goodness will follow you”. The Bible also says, “our later years will be better than the past”. Pops! The more we can do for ourselves, the more resilient. When you have money in your pocket, shift the financing away from the big corporations. 1.First look after your health. 2.Familiarise yourselves with edible wild plants. Grow your own food if it is possible. 3.Get into canning your own food. Invest in canning equipment. Use half to 1 teaspoon of natural salt to preserve canned food. Do not use table salt, as it has missing vitamins and minerals. Use a portable camping cooker for canning. 4.Store food in glass bottles, will have a longer shelf life. Oxygen deteriorates food. Extract oxygen from mason the jar bottle, using a car brake bleeding pump instead of buying an electric one. 5.Replace tea bags with stinging nettle tea. Dry stinging nettle leaves and store them in a glass jar. Good for circulation, vitamins and minerals. 6.Collect rainwater using a water butt. Connect to the pipe leading from the roof. Use water for cooking and drinking. Will have a clearer brain instead of your brain being bombed out on fluoride. 7.Don't drink canned and bottled fizzy drinks. For example Coca Cola and Lucozade. It's made with battery acid (phosphoric acid) and decreases bone density. Make your own probiotic fizzy drinks with a ginger bug. This consist of sugar, water and ginger skin. Ferment for two to five days. Strain then put in fridge. Flavour with any natural fruit juice. Instructions on RU-vid. Sodium Fluoride in drinking water inactivates the mitochondrion, which produces ATP. ATP is the energy molecule in the human body. 8.Don't eat box breakfast cereals, it affects the electrolytes in the body. 9.Don't consume Vegetable oil or Margarine, it hardens human cells and cause ageing. Replace with natural oils such as avocado oil, coconut oil, lard, beef tallow, olive oil, or butter made from whey cream. 10.Make your own soap with sodium hydroxide. In chemical science pour sodium hydroxide crystals into the water, not the other way around as it will explode. Use soap calculation on:- www.soapcalc.net/calc/soapcalcwp.asp 11.Make your own shampoo with potassium hydroxide. All soap making need at least 25% coconut oil to make soap bubbly. Soap-making also on RU-vid 12.Use vinegar as a hair conditioner. Rinse off. Can make your own vinegar made with scented flowers. Takes one month to ferment. 13.Get rid of stains on clothes with 1 teaspoon of ammonia and 1 tablespoon of liquid soap. Then rinse off ammonia before washing clothes. 8. Make your own cleaning products with 1 tablespoon of liquid soap and 2 tablespoons of baking soda, mix with 500 ml of hot water, stir. Cool and put into a spray bottle. 14.Make your own soap powder with a bar of soap, use an electric blender or grated, 1 cup of borax, 1 cup of baking soda. Wash clothes in 30 degrees water and above. 15.Make your own fabric softener with 4 tablespoons of Bath Epsom Salt in 1 litre of boiling water. Allow cooling. Only need 2-4 tablespoons for each wash. 16.Replace talcum powder with edible cornflour. Johnson and Johnson talcum powder is known to cause cancer. 17.Make your own toothpaste: 2 tablespoons of Coconut Oil, 1 teaspoon of Baking Soda (food grade), 10 drops of Peppermint essential oils. (Mix together) or use activated charcoal or charcoal from burnt wood. This toothpaste will clean away plaque and whiten teeth. Good for sensitive teeth and Fluoride-free. 18.Make your own air-spray with one-third white spirit vinegar and two-thirds sterilised water, add scented essential oils. This will cut out irritants in the home and prevent cancer. 19.Deodorant containing aluminium cause lumps under the arms, usually become malignant or cancerous with continuous use. 20.Salve - ointment for hair, face and body. Heat oils in a heat resistant bowl, over a pot of boiling water. Add beeswax to thicken. Mix together. Wait until beeswax has melted. Mix together. Pour into a glass jar and seal with a lid. The proportion of oils to beeswax. (8:1) 8 cups of oils to 1 cup of beeswax. Can add more beeswax to make thicker. Test a drop of the salve for thickness, on a cold plate that has been placed in a freezer for 15 minutes. 21.Reduce spending and don't throw nothing away. Store in the shed if possible.

My god what a journey this man and many others had to think this was fifty or forty years ago slavery was still going strong in those times and hearing this grieves mi when our elders get so much disrespect by some of this generation because I can tell you these new generations would not sevrvive this type of life blessings from London
I really enjoyed this interview. Both my grandfathers went on the farm work programme. One to the USA and other worked in Cuba and Panama when the canal was being built. Rough journey but we are benefiting from their efforts today. Keep up the good work. Very good interview. Looking forward to part two.

Happy to hear this story. Remind me of my father who used to Come to Jacksonville Florida to pick Orange to make money. Slavery still Exist in this place that he is talking about. Glad he survived to tell the Story Nothing don’t come easy in world.
I enjoyed this love to hear elders we must show more respect they paved the way for us ..they went thru hell.. no shoes .. walk for miles to go anywhere.. now cars everywhere.. many farm workers I was told injure themselves to get a payout to go home ..the work is no piece of cake.. Yes farm work is modern day slavery. Keep going youth very good interview. I shared it with my sister who is another country we watched it together. We were laughing in some spots. They say a rose by any other name would still be sweet. Well slavery by any other name is still as bitter. Call it farm work if you want, but he who feels it knows it. Slavery was never really abolished. Great story from a proud, hard working Jamaican man.

That farm work was murder!!! I know some one who was on board.He was a great Jamaican farmer but that farm work was brutal.He got weekend to go to church.He made friends with a church brother who invited him to lunch every week after church.He planned and ran off and stayed with the man.He saw a beautiful christian girl who went crazy for this handsome strong Jamaica boy.After3 months they were married and had3 brilliant educated kids.He paid for their college.NO loans for the kids to worry about.He took the best care of his mom and sisters while there.He lived to be 80 became I'll and passed on.His beloved wife followed him a year later.I am glad he made that move.He died an American citizen.
This was like watching a movie! hahaha I was so engaged and wrapped up........he ended it too soon. When he went back after spending 3 years what happened then? He bought land and worked it but did he go back on more farm work? Did he buy a house in the US? Did he marry his baby mother or meet someone else and got married? Did he live in the US for years and when did he return? So many questions.......
