I had the same problem and after a long time i found the solution ! I removed the pin from the lower receiver (mine was metallic and connected with a pin to the upper) and replaced it with a threaded hook and fitted a normal 1-point sling to it. Works great!
Nice mod. I would argue however that the ‘barrel deflection’ you’re pointing out is simply the movement of the handguard relative to the barrel. To flex that barrel/receiver/trunnion, enough to noticeably effect accuracy you would have to exert more force that you/your sling are capable of. While sling pressure can effect accuracy, it’ll be measured in fractions
Nice job! BTW on some models of the PTR 91 there is a factory installed loop on the receiver, so you may be able to duplicate it or to simply order the piece directly from the factory.
Most of these could be adapted pretty easily. www.impactweaponscomponents.com/product/qd-micro-mount/ I made a video about a Noveske flush mount QD install that would also work. m.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gZM5-cWWoUc.html
I just want to put a small hand stop on the side where the sling mount is because for one Ill never use a sling 2. I dont want to catch my thumb on the sling mount for any reason and 3. It will be an awkward bare spot on the forend. I looked on Samson and Impact Weapon Components and thats exactly what I was looking for. Just not a $40.00 price tag.
I just ordered that wide hand guard for my PTR91 and was wondering who does it handle up to the gun getting hot? I originally had that thin slim hand guard and man after one mag it start to get real warm then I couldn't hold it after two!
G St IMO it does a noticeably better job, but it's still not great. Its still a unventilated plastic hand guard with a thin heat shield. I put a Magpul AFG on the slim handguard and it created enough standoff and insulation that it wasn't a issue in Part #9 of this series of videos ( ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-neP-fizQ8bA.html ). I had the same problems with my AK's and AR's (after more rounds) until I started using modern aluminum tube type AR handguards and Krebs UFM's on the AK's. They are so well ventilated that the heat does not really build up or soak in enough to be painful. If you don't like the AFG mod, I'd imagine you'd need a similar system to do the same thing such as this...... www.hkparts.net/shop/pc/G3-91-PTR-Handguard-M-LOK-112p17265.htm
Someone else mentioned this. They put the front nub in the rivet hole instead of the bolt. So the mount was moved back about a 1/2" and it cleared. I don't have a bipod and hadn't considered it when I thought this up. But now we know. Thanks.
I don't remember the exact sizes. I typically just use a micrometer to measure the parts and use a bit that fits the closest. Some jobs require more precision than others. I don't remember if the bolt hole needed drilling or not after the rivet was removed. I believe I left the holes (for the little nipples on the back of the sling mount) slightly on the small side. I wanted a little bit of a press fit in the plastic to ensure a snug fit. The mount fits tight with no slop whatsoever. So I guess it worked.
StaticFilter I have not. The price, availability and weight of the HK units have kept me from purchasing one. If you try it, let us know about the results.
***** got an MSA on order, will be trying it out. If anything I may have to move the MSA toward the rear and use the existing hole for the nub instead of the screw
***** the HK bipod WILL hit the MSA in the location you used, I ended up using the existing hole for the front nub of the MSA and drilled a new center and rear hole. i1289.photobucket.com/albums/b515/staticfilter1/Mobile%20Uploads/20150405_144110_zps8nob9ju9.jpg Thanks for the awesome idea!
When I go to the checkout it asks me which handguard im using it for and it obviously isnt going to say hk wide so I was wondering which one you would choose? components.....com/product/weapon-control-mount/
Ahh ya that makes sense I just wanted to hear what you had to say about it before I wet ahead and did it. ://s753.photobucket. com/user/jlisse72/media/INDEP%20G3/pix833972711.jpg. html this is supposedly a special south african edition Namibian furniture. I just want to make a notch out towards the back like in the pic. I assume that part isnt going to have a piece of metal embedded on that end.
