Dude very nice. I like the rail on the thin handguard. Same way the german army still does their DMR rifles, except they also mount a harris bipod and often a light too.
Thanks. I considered adding a light and bipod. At that point I may just buy a rail. I've been eyeing the rails that RTG has. Inexpensive, light weight, much better cooling, and mlok, while still maintaining a slim profile.
Damn dude your a Marylander also? I ordered my PTR a few days ago, should have it by next week and i was planning on putting an AFG on it like you have done. I'm just not sure if having that on the rifle after oct 1 will violate the AWB.
hey there ,TheBrackishCoast, I just picked one up, my first goal is to put a grip pod, can you make a video, or just explain how you installed the rail under your hand guard? did you just drill and tap?
I used a Magpul MOE polymer pic rail section. They are inexpensive and include the bolts and the threaded backing plates the bolts screw into. First grind down the rib on the hand guard where you want to place the rail section. Mine where between the rivets for the heat shield. If you get close to them you may want to consider using the existing hole and replace the rivet with the bolt. Next, find a drill bit as close to the size of the bolts as possible. The more snug the better. Mark the holes for the rail and drill them. Then bolt up the rail section. I had to remove the screws and grind off some of their excess material to clear the barrel. The whole job took about 20-30min or so.
excellent, just as i pictured, similar to how you did your new sling clip attachment on the wide hand guard. so in this one (slim hand guard) you drilled through the inner aluminum layer? and im guessing that wouldn't be an issue. by the way I like all your videos, very helpful and informative. keep it up. I still dont see the value in that angled grip. My son, whose been in Afghanistan twice, uses the M4 with fore grip (vertical). For both practice and real he likes the control and 'natural grip' of the vertical foregrip. H refuses to use a angled grip ('them are crap' he says). I have to check my local regs but I do not think we are allowed the vertical grip, at least I don't see anyone with them
cool same here, I'm right by the mall. yea I'm aware that the gun itself will be grandfathered in, I am just curious if im gonna have to remove all those "evil" accessories like the foregrip I will be putting on my PTR. Because I think accessories like that are banned as well. Either way this bullshit bill needs to be defeated.
I'm thinking the same thing. I want to get the new A3R model, (with welded picatinny rail), and develop it into a DMR. And then install a collapsible stock with aimpoint sight on my GI for a general purpose rifle. 100% interchangeable parts between the two, cant go wrong.
Gotcha, I thought I saw something in the bill referencing forend attachments. Very possible I miss read it, legal jargon isn't my forte. I'll be picking up my PTR in the next day or two, cant wait to get some ammo and break her in.
