So, they sent one of these to try. This is my honest review I sent them. What do you guys think of these?

I don't understand what is going on here. These plastic trumpets were never meant to replace a brass one. I think the Tiger plastic trumpet was maybe the first of it's kind. When they were introduced the company said these were to give the trumpet player something fun to play, not to replace anything. I sure wouldn't expect a 200 dollar plastic trumpet to play as well as a three thousand dollar trumpet. I have a ptrumpet and I have a lot of fun with it. I have taken it to gigs and it gets a lot of attention. I play my Al Hirt Leblanc and the plastic one. To me it's just a lot of fun. My two cents worth.

I was about to buy it as my very first trumpet. You made quite clear I shouldn't... Thanks for taking time to review it

A good honest review. I have one and it's actually better quality than the one you have here. But the defective third valve tuning slide is also the same as mine. And I haven't given it an accurate tuning test yet.

Excellent, very frank and informative review. Thank you. I’d love to see you review the Tromba plastic flugelhorn, they actually receive pretty good reviews in general.

I reviewed the Tromba plastic trumpet a few years ago. It had metal parts too. It sounded ok but it was simply not robust enough. I liked playing it as it had very wide slots. Another thing that made it unsuitable for kids. I always recommend JP or Yamaha. Easy to obtain second hand.

I had massive problems with the stuck valves (pCornet). After valves got stuck after sometime not lubricated as recommended I tried a lot of different kind of lubrication including trumpet valve oils, weapon oil, plant oils such as peanut, olive or canola. Finally: Baby oil does the job (Penaten brand). Clean the valves in warm water and detergent. Rinse it and apply the baby oil with a cloth. The ptrumpet valves will never work as good as metal valves (the springs are way to weak, too) but I use the ptrumet for an always around and quick access practicing tool to improve my embouchure. For that it is perfect as it is light, rigid and does not mind some beating but it is not an instrument you can rely on playing in a band or orchestra.

I think this review is very unfair. It’s clear that you were likely sent a test model because the Hytech pTrumpet I have exhibits none of the flaws you found here. The 'hairline crack' is in fact a manufacturing feature that you'll find on any part that has been created using a mold. Nothing to do with a threaded metal part on plastic. And the comparison between the price of a new pTrumpet compared to a secondhand brass instrument, of course a secondhand cheaper brass instrument is going to be cheaper. But what is the price of a student Yamaha model new? A lot more.

Manufacturing feature!? It's a crack..... Sorry, but the 3rd valve slide doesn't fit..... Check out other reviews. It's a terrible 'instrument'...... What concerns me the most are 'professionals' endorsing these toys...... What next, an elastic piano!? They're called brass instruments for a reason.......

I heard that this trumpet sounds like a brass trumpet.... ... I am thinking of buying one since they have good sound quality... cool review though. Sorry it's negative.

Hey Kevin great review, best one I've seen on youtube. Have you tried any of the Thomann brass cheap trumpets under 200 bucks? Maybe a student of yours had one? I might purchase a trumpet soon for ocasional playing and don't wanna break the bank. Thank you!

I have a Thomann Flugel. Nice flugel. Dark-woody sound. It isn’t made to be pushed hard. I go flat when I do. The horn isn’t made with the highest of care. But the sound is great for what I do. Buy one then take it to your repair man and get it serviced.

What experiments have you done on escaping vibrations?
@hoshinotanecedryctensaibat9711
just saying, this video should be in an email sent to the makers of the pTrumpet, not on a youtube video for people looking for input about whether to buy or not. Imagine a dude reviewing a 200 bucks Squire guitar telling Fender on youtube about how uncomfortable and badly finished it is compared to a Custom Shop Fender model.

Hey - I would like something very lightweight, one hand played to assist my keyboard - spicing things up a little and just for fun Maybe this is it IF you can get any grip with one hand?

What would you recommend instead for a beginner (preferably not made in China)?

As far as the pieces that could break, nothing a little epoxy can't do

Am I crazy, but is the bell on the wrong side and is there a tuning slide?

As for the robust comment, I dare you to drop that and a strad from head height and see which is still playable XD

For a £168 instrument with quality like that, it is a disgrace.

Yea, don’t give kids shitty instruments. They will hate it soon. Buy them a used better instrument. If they decide to quit, you’ll get more of your money back. BTW is the video reversed?

Yes, the video is flipped. This is a traditional right handed instrument
