CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Dillinger (Johnny Depp) and his men execute a daring bank robbery, making sure to only take from the bank and not the people.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Based on author Bryan Burrough's ambitious tome Public Enemies: America's Greatest Crime Wave and the Birth of the FBI, 1933-43, director Michael Mann's sprawling historical crime drama follows the efforts of top FBI agent Melvin Purvis (Christian Bale ) in capturing notorious bank robber John Dillinger. A folk hero to the American public thanks to his penchant for robbing the banks that many people believed responsible for the Great Depression, charming bandit Dillinger (Johnny Depp) was virtually unstoppable at the height of his criminal career; no jail could hold him, and his exploits endeared him to the common people while making headlines across the country. J. Edgar Hoover's (Billy Crudup) FBI was just coming into formation, and what better way for the ambitious lawman to transform his fledgling Bureau of Investigation into a national police force than to capture the gang that always gets away? Determined to bust Dillinger and his crew, which also included sociopathic Baby Face Nelson (Stephen Graham) and Alvin Karpis (Giovanni Ribisi), Hoover christened Dillinger the country's very first Public Enemy Number One, and unleashed Purvis to take them down by whatever means necessary. But Purvis underestimated Dillinger's ingenuity as a master criminal, and after embarking on a frantic series of chases and shoot-outs, the dashing agent humbly surmised that he was in over his head. Outwitted and outgunned, Purvis knew that his only hope for busting Dillinger's gang was to baptize a crew of Western ex-lawmen as official agents, and orchestrate a series of betrayals so cunning that even America's criminal mastermind wouldn't know what hit him. Marion Cotillard, Channing Tatum, and Stephen Dorff co-star.

Well in real life he was very respectful. There’s no story told of him giving a captive his coat but there was stories of him telling the people thet he is there for the banks money and not theirs. He and other outlaws would even take mortgage papers with them. It prevented the banks from knowing who owed them money. So a lot of people actually benefited from the bank robbers. This is such a phenomenal film, that leaves you on the edge of your seats, and filled with emotions. I rarely write reviews, but this film truly deserves it, extremely underrated espically with it's cast, dialogue, soundtrack, and storyline. Johnny Depp, and Christan Bale absolutely nailed their roles, and a special mention to Crudup who plays Hoover, and Marion who plays Billie, such an amazing influence, and performance. Although the film never claims to be based on a true story, it truly showed the whole Dilliginer era well, and effective, as expected by Micheal Mann. Amazes me how underrated the film is, truly never gets the credit it deserves. Watch it yourself, well worth it, nothing worth spoiling, espically the end scene. What a scene though

The book, "Public Enemies" contains what amounts to a detailed operational analysis of bank robbery tradecraft as it evolved in the early 1930s to exploit new technologies (the high-speed automobile, telegraph, radio, assault weapons, body armor...). Real gangs cased the target bank thoroughly; researched and documented a "git" (getaway map, showing the secondary and tertiary roads to perhaps 20 miles out along the intended route of escape, incld. hazards like police stations and missing bridges, plus landmarks that could be spotted in the dark). They hid caches of gasoline (25-40 gallons at a time, in 5-gallon cans), first-aid supplies, and preserved food at intervals along the way,.and had pre-arranged safehouses and corrupt auto garages (mechanics) they couild trust as their immediate destinations, wherewith to lie low until the heat was off a job and they could spend or fence the cash they had stolen. Highly recommended book!

they got that reference from bonnie and Clyde with Faye Dunaway and Warren Beaty, Clyde says to an old man in the bank "is that your money or the banks?" The old man says "mine" to which he responds with "alright you keep it then, i knew it sounded familiar

I was fortunate enough to watch the last part of this scene filmed. The girl I was messing with lived around the corner a few blocks. It was pretty Dam n crazy how much work goes into a 30 second part of a movie....

Her dog actually slipped her collar and leash and ran into the set after it was rolling. They had to cut . She ran up to johnnydepp and got some loving from him and some other cast member. If only she knew who he was lol...

I hate in movies, when they use that hold, he wasn't choking the guy but the guy just held his arms, didn't try get out, didn't grab gun.. Ik ik its a movie, and a vapid, popcorn type that comes out every other year at that. But still

Tommy gun bullets would not have penetrated the cars of the day however BAR ammo would have gone straight through.

BAR's are what they used to take down Bonnie and Clyde, in conjunction with shotguns and handguns.

"Ford Motor Company products were not designed to resist or deflect .30 caliber long rounds, such as are fired by the Browning Automatic Rifle or BAR. Ford Motor Company regrets this fact under the current circumstances, which regret however does not amount to an admission of a design defect in our motorcars."

And Mr. President didn't react to a Thompson firing 8 inches from his face. Use real props people, not CGI.
