Public Eye Theme Stereo

The haunting theme music written by Bob Sharples for the British TV series starring the late Alfred Burke as private-eye Frank Marker which ran from 1965 to 1975. Many thanks and our utmost gratitude must go to adiebarrett who recompiled the music into a full length piece and to which I have added just a tad of ambience and resampled to stereo .

Love to see a remake of this series but sadly there wouldn't be any actor today that would come anywhere near Alfred Burke in playing that roll, I suppose I am biased as I was a fan of the series when it was originally transmitted.
@trevordance5181
@trevordance5181 3 года назад
@@DavidJohnson-rj8zu I agree totally. I also saw the series first time round including the lost ABC episodes. Perhaps in some ways it was of its time and an updated series wouldn't ring true unless it was reworked so much to fit today's world that it wouldn't bare any relation to the original series.

I love the bass riff running through in this. I've played bass for 60 years and now watching this series again I've worked the sequence of notes. The bassist puts together notes you wouldn't normally play together which gives it that fabulous atmosphere. 10/10 :)

Amazing listening to it now and hearing all the Jazz influences of the sixties (Coltrane, Mingus, Ron Carter etc). I agree, the bass line is very inventive using interesting scale patterns. Creates a unique atmosphere of a very creative time that has been lost.
@paullandry5594
@paullandry5594 2 года назад
How cool can this this track get?! I remember this theme tune very fondly. The uniqueness of this track is that only the cymbals are played, but not the drums on the kit. The cymbals, the trombone, the piano, the double bass and a fifth instrument being a guitar played on dampened strings come together in an eerily beautiful way. The trombone in particular gives this tune its eerie sound. Lovely piece of jazz.

It was common practice to reuse previously recorded tape, and as a consequence, lots of programme episodes were lost forever. It was the same story at both the BBC, and ITV.

Arguably the best theme music ever composed. Loneliness and dark, drizzly, empty streets. Captures the feeling and mood of Frank Marker perfectly. Quite an intricate piece to score and play. It's such a shame that ABC lost so many of the original VTR tapes ( missing believed wiped ) but TV was not considered to be important enough back then to save long term and many other shows like Z Cars etc. shared the same fate as the tapes could be reused . Luckily Thames kept all the episodes from 1969 onwards. One of the best series ITV ever did.

There are times in life when you know you were privileged to have experienced.lt is not the earth shattering events of world history,that's a rarity for just a few individuals.l hark back to possibly more innocent times and pleasures.My point! well,l have to say this series in the original shaped me to what l am today.A love of distinctive but powerful music,the same with drama and a sense of appreciation when a actor or anyone in life actually can pull off a performance that supercedes the ordinary.This series had it all and then some.l have as many episode that l have found so far,a small but unique collection of T- shirts associated with the series but above all the greatest of memories of my time as a young man with a young man's dreams.
