It’s running again, nightly, on Talking Pictures, Sky Films. It really was a terrific series.

@@videocurios I am fifty nine , this is the first time I have ever heard of it [ never mind watching it ] , never boring , always great dialogue , very well written , talking pictures have a disclaimer before the program to appease the P C Nazi reprobates , to hell with them .

@@patrickparker8417 Unfortunately, all our old films and series on Talking Pictures have this ‘warning’ before being played. How ludicrous. We could watch them as youngsters, no problem, now that we are older, we must be protected and pre-warned about the odd cuss word or a copper manhandling a criminal! How are we ever going to sleep at night after watching such debauchery! 😮😒🙄

I'm watching it every night on Talking Pictures (July 2019) love it - and sooooooooo great to see English life before mobile phones and the internet. People actually using phone boxes! Brilliant outdoor filming. I am hooked!

They were usually smelly phone boxes.

I remember watching this as a kid, not really allowed to but sneaked a look when mum wasn't looking. To this day I love the music and watch it nightly on Talking pictures. Alfred was a fine actor and much underrated.

Just love this. Tired rain soaked and frayed at the edges, and all the better for it...

Great line from Marker: “Oh no, that’s your job. Mine’s collecting dirt. Other peoples. It rubs off and I don’t like it!”

It’s now on every Thursday on Talking Pictures at 9pm. I love the early B/W shows.

The Americans wished they’d thought of it first. Wonderful drama, with some great characters.

Superb then and superb now used to watch it every afternoon when I was working at home in the time of its original showing andvlove to see it now I can remember specially great episodes some of which I have not tracked down yet but I can remember whole snippets from them he was a very versatile actor and so very convincing I had a shop very similar to him at the time and felt an affinity as a small shop keeper with all the ups and downs back then the rates were £5 a year YES a year and the rent £5 a month HAPPY days.

All the surviving episodes are available in Network dvd boxsets which include some lovely extras and the old videotapes have been restored using a process called vidfire to make them more tolerable to watch on modern telly's

I've very recently discovered this and it's brilliant, It takes a little while to get into the character but once your there is real treat. There is a lot going on in this, it so well written and acted.
