No way people should have to pay another $40 for a tee time. I live in Pasadena and can rarely get on any LA Course before 2pm. An extra $40 to go to a golf program isn’t a good idea. It will price out many people who just want to enjoy playing golf at a course that’s funded by tax dollars. I’d be willing to bet $2 out of the extra $40 will actually go to something worthwhile while the rest gets lost in the bureaucracy of city politics. Municipal courses need to be reasonably priced so the majority of residents can play. Strongly disagree with the added cost idea as an extra $40 will make it around $100 a round. Not feasible for the general public, especially those just learning the game or from a lower socioeconomic background. Dave Fink is a godsend for bringing this to light. I’ve seen him all over the local news spreading the word about this issue.

What a dumb system. Here in Hawaii, you register and get a municipal golf id card, you call or go online to book and only you can check into your t-time. It’s non transferable. If you don’t show up for your t-time a few times or don’t cancel in time you loose your ability to book t-times for a month.

They have a similar system in LA. The brokers are thought to be using multiple senior player cards (which can book farther in advance) to book times. Someone even reported to Dave Fink that he was able to just input some random numbers and was able to book tee times under someone else's player card.

Simple solution - verify name used to reserve against an ID shown at check-in. Don't match? Your reservation is lost and you are suspended from being able to reserve for a defined amount of time (one month first infraction, lifetime for second). Problem solved.

Matt, Golf is getting out of reach for the average Golfer. $1200 for clubs, Drivers 0ver $500, putters $300, Wedges close too $200 each and Golf Courses are charging around $50 for ok courses and over $500 for really great courses and they wonder why people are not on the courses. I know in South Fl there were several course were sold to build Condos. Now brokers are taking up Tee Times and making us to pay even more for a good Tee Time. (Sad)

I make great money but it doesn’t mean I have to spend it to shoot a 78-86!!! Think about it this way. Golf has been being technologically advanced for 100 years easily. Over the last 100 years how many golfers have had their handicaps decrease permanently? New equipment is mostly all smoke and mirrors, go accurately measure the degree angle on every generation of irons of your favorite brands, they will all Be different. Its all marketing and most people fall For it. you don’t need the newest clubs, you need better technique and consistency!!!!! I’ve spent $140 (my boss said go get fitted for irons in the company card, I love my irons and hit the snot out of them and needed a driver so I saved him $700 and bought the driver) and I’ll out golf most casuals with $3,500+ set ups.

generally, event tickets shouldn't allow to resell. The same brokerage problem is hitting concerts, sport events and many other events. I know Americans who travel to Europe to watch their favourite artist because over there the concert ticket price has been driven up to 5 times the originally intended cost and more than the ticket, flight and stay in Europe would cost. The big problem is real simple. Golf has had a tremendous resurgence of interest in the last several years especially because of the pandemic and people had a lot of time on their hands when they were off work. But in Metro areas like Los Angeles they can't build new golf courses so you have an enormous demand but not enough supply so to speak. So then you have the golfers who don't care that the green fees are double what they should be and they are willing to pay the brokers price but it eliminates so many golfers that want to play the game. Many have to drive 2 hours just to get to a course outside of Los Angeles so they can play. Maybe we need more golf simulators like bowling alleys.

This is a serious problem for golf I am currently a club golfer and it’s nice to have a membership because it actually saves me money the amount I play, but it is nice to have cheap to mid priced decent courses to test my skill to make sure I’m not getting complacent with playing the same course over again which is something I need to do for the competitive side of my game in the special Olympics and who knows how long I can keep a golf membership up personal finances are a constant changing variable right now with the state of the western economy, so having those cheap low to mid range courses are essential for golf to grow and continue to grow as well as security that we can still play the game we love even if our financial situations change through life events outside of our control

If they are buying the tee times for the regular price then the course is getting their money. This an easy fix. The tee times must be purchased under a specific name, credit card, and if someone else shows up they cannot use that tee time and must pay to play the vacant tee time. Now course gets paid twice.

I've sat at my computer at 5:58 in the morning waiting for 6 AM to hit so I can get a tee time. Once 6 am hits you can't even get on the site. Not until 6:03 and all the tee times except 4pm is gone. I really think (no evidence) just speculating there is some sort of inside job going on. Technically when you check in for your tee time at the course you need to present your card. How are these non LA CIty card holders getting on the course? You are not just supposed to get a tee time anywhere. You need a card and membership.

well - ultimately it is on the individual golf course - their only interest is driving revenue - so as long as those tee times are being paid for - that is all they care about - albeit that is what I would consider a very short-term approach. This has been going on for years in Vancouver Canada. The Korean community knows exactly what they are doing. It is common knowledge. The courses don't give a shit because they get there green fees. The only way this can stop is to build in coding that will stop the bots from scooping up all the tee times instantly at there scheduled release time. Saying this is the scalpers fault only and not the Korean community who are taking advantage of this is a joke. That is like saying that if someone breaks into a banks vault and leaves the door open, everyone who goes in and steals money is not at fault. The other factor that is not spoken about is that many Koreans are avid golfers and do not agree with this practice and have to remain silent in fear of upsetting there community. It frustrates them from an ethical and moral standpoint and hinders their own ability to get tee times.

definitely scalping and the course need to sue

Public golf is a public good. I’d file a class action lawsuit against the scalpers (or the incompetent dept running the courses)

So this type thing should fix itself.... anyone with money can easily invest in s new course or 2 in that area and compete easily with the established courses... supply and demand issue that I'm sure will fix itself in a year or 2... till then, pony up

Broker😂 is a nice term for "Corporate" Scalping...call it what it is MSG. Trust me, a few yrs ago we weren't "Brokering" graphics cards sales....we were scalping them 😂

Get rid of online booking. You gotta call or go in proshop. And if you book a 4some and only show up with 2 or 3, you get dinged a fee

Nobody wants to go back to the 90s. Even golf courses prefer online scheduling over people ringing non-stop interrupting them during the day. Not having to wade through voicemails and call people back is a huge time saver as well.

@lawbinson ya I know it'll never happen but it's the only way to stop it. Similar things happen at my course and it's private. Guys will book multiple times in morning, then maybe a few more a couple hours later, and sometimes 3 or 4 more around noon. So they'll take up 12 tee times(14 days out) and only use 3 or 4(depending what time they feel like playing) and cancel the other times the morning of to avoid the no show fee. This didn't happen in the 90s. I was at another course where you had to call or go in and if you tried funny business the guy booking the time would say" hey man you already have a tee time at 830, so do you want to change it?" or something to that effect.

Doesn’t this just mean the golf courses are not charging enough?

Must be a California thing, not surprised one bit, lol. That does not happen in my state. Go California, though, lol.

My state would not tolerate this. And no one would pay that much for a public course here. The brokers know them California's will, though, and that no one there will do anything about it.

Sounds a bit shady to me. Nothing surprises me about California anymore.

Make tee times non transferable.

This is the modern day Ticketmaster. The only way I can defend against it is to NOT buy from the broker and hope they get stuck with tee times. They probably already have an understood percentage of loss factored in.

Terrible idea. Nobody should be paying extra money for tee times regardless of where the money is going. We should pay what the tee times cost.

Pro shop issue. Tee times cannot be bought. They “belong” to the pro shop. 1-4 names for every 10 minutes. No names or same names over and over do not qualify. Nor do no shows.
