Dustin and the Top Pin Outdoors crew made their way to hunt their annual New York Public Land Archery Hunt. This hunt wasn't much different from other years, except that they only killed one buck the entire trip. The year prior Cole and Dustin both shot beautiful 3.5-year-old 9 pointers and the rest of the team shot a handful of does. This year was different.
The guys wanted to get in early and drove overnight to get down in time to float in the midst of the early morning on their Alpacka Rafts. The goal was to get to a known bedding area that wasn't really accessible by road. From the water, it was a 2-mile float and 1-mile hike in with a 3-mile hike out to the truck as well.
Day 1 was tough and deer were scarce as the shotgun restrictions were lifted in Letchworth State Park the previous couple years. There are for sure big bucks here and although this isn't your typical buck that Dustin would shoot, he had it at his wits ends and decided to pull the trigger on it to fill his NY tag.
Camp isn't always about killing but sometimes there needs to be a reward for the hard work and these guys all deserved a cold one for this hunt. On Day 7 the boys headed up to an oak hill for some ground hunting and Dustin was able to connect at 48 yards with his bow. A great shot and all captured on POV Cameras.
