We need your help to to stop people from turning sand hallow into a neighborhood. Please email:

@mattsoffroadrecovery

The issue: A land developer wants to do a land swap with his land near the water tank on Warner Valley Road with the BLM for the West Rim/Long Valley area. This is the SAME DEVELOPER that went after the front of Sand Mountain 6 years ago and tried to get Razzle Dazzle/ Deklined and the test track on the east side. This is the same guy building the DH Horton Subdivision. He wants to develop this land into lake front property and an RV Park. He wants to take our trails to accomplish his end goal. It will put houses where there are no houses. It will create a noise issue with residents that do not like OHV use. It will be the beginning of CLOSING OUR ACCESS TO OUR PUBILC OHV TRAILS.

I really like the BLM comment about "tortois habitat." I've seen motirized recreation land in Southern California set aside for tortois habitat because of Sierra Club pressure. The OHVs were kick out. Then housing developers decided they wanted the land. Developers gave the Sierra Club enough money to buy them off and houses were built. Now the tortoises didn't matter. Thank you so much for mentioning our Native Brothers and Sisters and referring to wondering if this is how they felt! "All in the name of PROGRESS". Progress is good in many circumstances, like human equality and rights. This kind of progressivism typically means GREED, and how rich someone can get by doing this! That reservoir/water shed is not only going to be used for the current needs and concerns of existing communities, it's main reasoning or adjective is for future development in that are period. Saying thing's like this is only to get you soft too the idea and get you to come to a agreement. Once that is done they have full control of everything. They can and will change, amend the agreement and ultimately at some point building will start. A agreement signed and cemented in concrete does NOT mean permanent! Remember concrete can be broken and breaks very easy. You will see developments in that area of concern if a agreement is signed. Don't be butter cups be those massive BOULDERS you crawl over with your rigs. Boulders are many many times hard to move and crack like a signature is. The government lies period! Learn from history they never truly do what the say, sign or promise. They always had a way to change it for their benefit. Reflect on our Native Brothers and Sisters. In the name of PROGRESS they slaughtered, raped, ripped families apart, banned them from publicly using their language, practicing their beliefs and countless other things to make them BEND THE KNEE! Once the the Dawes Act, Tribal Governance an all agreement of Lies was signed and done all promises and agreements were off the board and not upheld. TEARS of BLOOD have fallen on that exact ground so please learn from the broken promises and make our Native Americans proud by standing your ground to keep the land fee for all, nothing less nothing more don't give up even a handful of sand.

It happens in New Mexico a lot. For example, Ben Cain owned 20 acres of land but leased more for a cattle ranch from the BLM. Bill Richardson, who was running for president at the time, wanted to build a space port in NM and went in with Richard Branson of Virgin Galatic fame. They bought the Caine ranch and gave him 6.5 million and built a 210 million building and runway. 13 years later, it has still not used except for dumb little things. Caine made out like a bandit with money that the BLM could have stopped at any time. I believe Horton wanted a race track north of Truth or Consequences and almost ran every one out of water. Still vacant land.

Sadly this sceario is so common, that these developers know full well what will happen, they just dont care and play dumb. One approach I had seen was to engage the developers in curtailing the development to cater to the surrounding outdoor activity or 'track'. For example, if building next to a drag strip. Include a sort of community center or pviliion that provides services to the track/sport/neighborhood. This can be seen as a profit center, and suddenly you're speaking the developers language.

A developer is not going to develop something if there is no one to buy homes or setup businesses there. If people don't want an area to be developed don't show an interest in living there. Water issues are and have been the driving force in the SouthWest for a long time and will always be. People need to realize mankind's real demand on the available water.

I'm afraid that once the reservoir goes in, that corner of Utah is going to turn into New Las Vegas or Phoenix. Lots of water, views of the lake, that area is already exploding with construction. You can see it in the background of Matt's videos all the time. (Paul still lives out in the Boonies :)

In Developers’ Language what you are talking about is a Community Benefit Agreement. They understand how to build in the cost of that into their project. You can dictate just what can and cannot be done on the Development. This can also include a proviso that covers the swapping of parcels. I’ve not seen Sand Hallow, or any of that area, but in my opinion all public land needs to be protected. To me the Wild Card in this Scenario is the Reservoir. As Activists you should make sure that the placement of the Reservoir is something the Public gets to weigh in on. You don’t want anyone sneaking it in on you.

The problem as I see it is lack of water due to overwhelming the area due to growth. I love watching these channels from Utah for the scenery and I have always wanted to visit the state. I will never visit a SW state due to limited resources so I get to see everything from my home. A reservoir is not going to fix any water issues and it would almost seem like this landowner is trying to gain off of recent attention gained from content creators. With what I have heard in this video, I would not look to move to the area since prices will go up considerably and then the water projects will eventually fail and send prices through the floor. 👽

Unfortunately whoever has the most money wins. I used to live in a small town until about 20 years ago Back then you couldn't build because it was all classified as a green belt while a developer came in with lots of money guess what It's no longer a greenbelt While I can't say that the only GREEN our electric officials cares about Isn't the color of the trees that they mowed down. They are now starting stage 5 We have about 15000 new residents with another plan 10000 Are once beautiful small town now sucks Not to mention what it's doing to our lake. Just yesterday I seen 2 people throwing their trash out of their car into the parking lot this is the kind of people it's bringing. I gave them Royal S*** But they just laughed at me then drove off.

The BLM manager said something about potential easements across the parcel to be disposed of. My question would be would those easements be in perpetuity and would they be exclusive to the BLM. You want both... AND, that easement has to be a part of the land patent transferring the land out of public ownership.

With all that talking, I'm all confused. Isn't that "BLM" land? Meaning it belongs to the citizens (the taxpayers)? If so, I personally don't see how a land swap deal would ever be approved seeing there are A LOT of citizens in this country that would be completely against it. If it wasn't the VERY FAMOUS place that it is for recreational use, then I might think differently, but as popular as it is I just don't see it happening. If they want that gentleman's land for a turtle sanctuary, then the government should buy that land from him, or the state should give him the $12 million he wants for it, because the income the state brings in every year from visitors coming to visit and ride those trails more than covers the $12 million that man wants for his land. If what I've said makes any sense. lol.
