Join the club! Been dealing with this for the last 7 years. Tip: don't give keys out to anyone unless YOU do a giveaway or kickstarter backer rewards and just block anyone who asks for a key. It's harsh for legit promoters but Steam do offer revokable keys so if you're unsure send them instead. :)

Honestly, if some scammer wants my steam keys for my game, I’ll tell them it’s gonna require eight hundred dollars for verification.

I am so sorry that happened to you. When I first got my official business name, all the scammers came out of the woodwork. They always greet in a overly polite way to try to throw you off. They irritate me to no end.

@@TheOdie Oh, you're totally welcome. You will have to watch out for the "data gathering businesses" that will make where your business name and location will pop up as a vacation spot or a whole other business online without your permission. I'm constantly requesting stuff like that taken down. It's crazy.

yea i though about saying something before your game went live then i was thinking somethings you just have to learn by having it happen. Yea started my first business at age 10 mowing lawns and boy the stuff i have seen since then haha

It’d be wild to see you do a LetsPlay of your own game ngl. Oh dang, as a content creator, how do you feel about LetsPlayers? I remember awhile ago people said they’d pay people to play their games because that’d increase sales and notoriety, but idk if that’s still the case or nah lol.

I get emails of people asking for more than 1 key a LOT, usually during the month after release. I never give out random keys unless it is to trustworthy people. Just can't take too many chances anymore.

Hm...I'm too paranoid to respond to messages that start with something like "I will write to you about your gaming product". That is such a clumsy introduction, my brain immediately goes into suspicion mode, although the remainder of that text seemed a bit more in tone with the subject. But, yeah, these requests seem harmless enough that I can picture them being fairly successful. I'd always assume that a scammer would be more daring with their "demands", so as to make the scam sufficiently rewarding when it works. The more innocuous looking approach is probably a better camouflage and pays off when done frequently enough, though. Despicable! Sure hope you were not too negatively affected by this!

I was also suspicious when I first read it but didn't know what harm they could do until I looked into it some more 😅. Luckily I caught early on and didn't send too many keys

Odie :-: I did not properly close RPGMaker before turning off my PC and all the files got currupted. Sad days, I like, feel the want to just quit in my stomach. Thankfully I was not super far, but it still took a lot of time and stuff. At least I can draw on this feeling next time Ineed my MC to feel hopeless.

Oh nooo! 🙁What version was it? This used to happen to me a lot in VX Ace on an old Toshiba laptop. Be sure to create backups after every session. If it happened once, it's bound to happen again

@@TheOdie So, this has happened 3 times now. I did a factory reset and it even happened. After some some research, people are saying that it may be because something is reading the files when I close the software. I manually uninstalled Microsoft one drive and Norton virus protecter. Then I went to Atom to change the controls to WASD as usual, and then it occurred to me. Does Atom need to be closed in a certain way so it doesn’t corrupt my files? I know you use it Edit; Okay, I see you don’t have to completely take the file out of Atom. You just have to ex the current script you were working on with a little X.

yea before you said sell the key's i was like im not sure what did they do wrong? Then i was like how are they scaming you note im use to someone stealing money from someone in the scam. Yet it sounded like they took it a step father spelling and scamed you by selling the key?

Yup! They sneakily ask for keys to bundle up and sell on 3rd party websites. Hurts a game dev the same way pirating would except they also make money in the process
