The witch of envy killed her because she saw that Subaru was willing to keep trying to tell someone even if it killed him since by this point he already sees little value on his life; however, the witch manage to stop him from trying to tell people of RBD over and over by killing Emilia. Funny how the author said that if he tried to tell Reinhard, Subaru would just explode.

Subaru doesn’t know when his check point will update so he can’t spend to much time gathering intel on people because he might not go back far enough to make a difference also the author of the novel (source material) said Emilia is the only one who dies if they hear Subaru fully says his ability (we don’t know what happens to everyone else tho)

People question why Subaru seems to be accepted on summoning to Isekai so soon. I feel it's more like a cultural difference. Japanese have developed Isekai-type stories in the past 30 years, such as novels, movies, animes, and most of those stories talks about a MC summoned into Isekai then becomes super powerful and saves the world. For those who watch a lot of those animes, like a lot of Asians (Subaru, for example), it would be easier to think that way immediately when they are in Isekai. It is, of course, stupid to keep that mindset after all those suffering, but Subaru was killed the first day he was summoned, and it is hard for him to trust anyone for help. Subaru did seek help from Emila, Puck, Betty, Rem and Ram, but most of their answers are more like riddles. For others like Crusch, Felix and Wilhelm, Subaru just does not have the right mindset to trust them at this moment.

If Subaru intentionally tries to break his contract and tell someone about Return by Death is when it will kill someone. He actively has to go against it rather than just saying shit out loud to attract mabeasts or otherwise use it to his advantage. Since Subaru has no memory of ever making this contract or why he has this power to begin with, he literally doesn't know its limits. It was even mentioned during the mansion arc that he wasnt sure if he got more than 3 tries per checkpoint which is why he was so terrified so start over again after Rem got aced by the puppers.

As to Subaru not understanding that he was returning after death: I thought the same thing until I read the light novel. It was on Subaru's mind but he wouldn't entertain the idea in the off chance that it was something else. Cause that would be pretty bad to be wrong about.
